Worked great. I'm not sure why I had problems with installing apps through the app templates in portainer but I couldn't get it to work. Oh well, it's all a learning experience.
Hello Digital Aloha , thank you so much for the clear and concise tutorial. I have setup transmission on my DS718+ however when i start the the service it runs for a few seconds and stops. any ideas what to do to fix that ?
You're welcome!! Glad the video was helpful. Regarding your container stopping after a few seconds I'm not totally sure what is causing that to happen, but I'd point you to the logs for the container for clues that may help you out. You should be able to get there by bringing up Container Manager then select Container -> your Transmission container -> then click on Logs. Hopefully something useful will be displayed. Good luck!!
HI there. This worked for me. However, magnetised transfers don't work. When I point it to a torrent file it does though. Any idea why magnetised links aren't working?
Had the same problem. Fixed it by stating the PUID and PGID. Just add the following to the environmental labels. - PUID=1026 - PGID=100 Also, add to make the UI nicer. - TRANSMISSION_WEB_UI=flood-for-transmission
Not totally sure, but here are a few things to check out. First, make sure you are using myNASipaddress:9091 and not myNASipaddress:9091 (the setup doesn't use https). Next, in the docker-compose.yml file, confirm that the LOCAL_NETWORK is setup properly. In my case my Synology NAS has an IP address of 192.168.81.59, so my LOCAL_NETWORK is set to 192.168.81.0/24. Lastly, if you have your Synology NAS firewall enabled, make sure you have the proper rules setup or disable the firewall to determine if that is the issue and then configure the firewall with the proper rules. Hope this helps and best of luck to you in your setup!!
hello, thank you for a great video, I've been looking for something new like this. but I'm having an issue. I cannot find Container Manager in the package center. I'm running a DS216+II so thought my system is outdated but when I go to the website I see that it will run on the DS216+II. do you have any suggestions?
You're welcome!! Glad you liked the video. Regarding your question, could it be that you are running an older version of DSM? Container Manager runs on DSM 7.2. If you want to stick with your current version of DSM look for the Docker package. Hope this helps? Good luck with your setup!!
So I have it up and running, it's communicating with Sonarr, but I can't access the web UI. I've seen somewhere that I'm supposed to go to :9091/transmission, but that doesn't work either. Any ideas?
hi krazykaiser, did you manage to find a fix? having the same issue, can't find webui and can't figure it out for the life of me. ive found enviroment local_network a solution but i have no idea on this, the default isn't working
Hold on, that's all well and good, but you've not requested an open port from PIA and it's not been assigned to transmission, so even though it's going through the vpn it's almost useless in this regard. :/
You'll have to explain what you mean? The Transmission-OpenVPN container setup its network to connect to PIA and running the curl icanhazip.com command from within the container displays an IP address provided by PIA. I also can see from the torrent sites that I've used that my torrent peer connections are coming from the PIA assigned IP Address.
You can change the download directory to anything that you want on the host side of things, but the main thing is it is assigned to the /data directory within the transmission-openvpn container. The line in the docker-compose.yml file you need to change is this one -> - '/your/storage/path/:/data'. Hope that answers your question?
It was a pain with a bunch of trial and error I did get the container to finally work. But now torrents will not download it’s really weird. Did you have that problem at all? Can you share some of your settings and details for all of us to see? Thank you for your help.
I didn't have any issues with downloading torrents and the settings I shared in the video are exactly what I used in my setup. What I'd recommend you doing is check out the logs for the transmission container and see if it gives you any clues. Hope this helps and best of luck to you in your setup.
@@digital_aloha I’m super glad you didn’t have problems. Though I appreciate the effort you put in. it seems most of us are having problems with this process so I assume it’s not a very conclusive guide for everyone and maybe a little warning to anyone who wants to waste a day trying to get this to work.

Glad you got your setup working!! I'd imagine portainer would have been a similar setup but at least container manager is available as well.

Hello, thank you so much! Do you have any idea how to get magnet links to work with this set up?
Hello! can you make a similar tutorial for wireguard using .conf files??
I'll look into putting together a tutorial using wireguard, but what do you mean by "using .conf files"?
@@digital_aloha the wireguard protocol is usually used with a wg0.conf file, unlike openvpn which uses a user and password
@@digital_aloha I tried qbittorrentvpn but I couldn't access web ui. the vpn provider I want to use is octohide

Not working with Nord but will look into other VPNs
Hmm, NordVPN was supposed to be one of the VPNs that works right out of the box? Hopefully you figure out something. Good luck!!

@digital_labs I have the same thing too! Checked logs but it shows “no logs” instead. Everything seemed running fine from server logs to others
Thank you for the great tutorial. Do you know if that works on a Synology DS215j?
You're welcome and glad you liked the video!! Unfortunately the DS215j doesn't support Docker or Container Manager from what I'm seeing.
@@digital_aloha thank you!
@@2big2fail47 No problem... Hopefully you can find an alternative to be able to run the Transmission-OpenVPN container.

Looks like you commented in a couple of places. I'd suggest having a look at your transmission container logs to see if anything shows up.
