  • More a successor film rather than a sequel to Cast A Deadly Spell, Witch Hunt has an entirely different feel to it. Yes, it's still urban magical fantasy, but it is far more David Lynch than I expected. Still worthy if you're into that kind of film.

I also enjoyed it but I really missed the comedic undertones present in the first film. For the unusual genre mash-up premise of the setting, Witch Hunt took itself a bit too seriously. It would've been great if I hadn't seen the original movie first but it just feels like it's lacking some things in comparison. Julian Sands nailed the villain, of course. This film would be a better double-watch with Warlock (1989) just for the Sands baddies.

@@NefariousKoel you make fine points, and I should watch Warlock. And I don't know how the producers could have differentiated it more from Cast A Deadly Spell to control expectations, but it would have helped.
But Witch Hunt, the tonal shift was so jarring I actually stopped watching it on my first attempt. A few minutes later I thought maybe I wasn't looking at it how it was intended, opened my mind a bit wider, and then understood it.
