    In this video I demonstrate brush clearing in an area with many medium size trees to work around, resulting in a sporadic pattern. The brush hog is a Landpride branded orange RCR1272 which is a 6' brush hog. The brush that I was cutting was no larger than 2" mostly consisting of small trees and thorn bushes. Horsepower wise I'd say the tractor fared alright, only with larger diameter clumps of trees did it really bog down but I wouldn't say that this brush hog was meant for this type of work regularly. If I had to do this as a business I'd get a heavier duty brush hog (or a FECON on a 100HP skid steer).

    Finally, I found a video showing what a brush hog can really do. Most just mow grass. Thank you. And lowering it onto a brush pile was a special treat.

    your doing great but a lil tip for starting pto on brush hog ......do it at a lesser rpm speed and then increase rpms as to not throw a shaft which could easily happen when you flip pto on at high rpm speed

    • @JoeMalovich
      @JoeMalovich  5 лет назад +2

      The PTO clutch is let out slowly, and there's a slipper clutch on the shaft.

      I can't speak for new units but I have an older 8950 with hydraulic PTO and it will show no mercy. If you engage it like that you will snap a shaft, same as turning it off. it has to be feathered at idle speeds to start a bush hog. 2 lever start to turning off is easy disengage the main lever.

      It's an RCR1272 and it will cut up to 2" but I wouldn't regularly do it, it's not meant for it.
      The RCR1872 or the smaller RCR1860 are built heavier for regular small brush cutting.

    I have the same exact tractor and brush hog , you need to fix your brush hog you have the tail wheel set way to high and your not even close to level , that's why you cant get a good clean even cut , you have gone back over the same area a dozen times and still have full size brush laying on the ground , it should look like mulch by now. if your going forward you need to put that damned bucket down and keep it down , this is a most definitely not how to brush hog .

    Hey there from Central Wyoming!
    I had to stop the video for a moment, and actually nitpick you.
    I like your videos because you're teaching me about how to do things with small to medium-sized tractors, and the implements.
    However my good man, you really need to sit down before you do these videos and write out an outline concerning what it is you want to talk about, so that you can convey fully the information you desire to convey.
    Case in point, you spoke about the other RUclips channel outdoors with the Morgans, folks are about 40 minutes from you.
    This may come as a shock, but you never got to your point for mentioning the mortgage in the first place.
    I kept waiting for the punchline if you were mentioning them, but it never came.
    You just put your hat on got back on the tractor and that was it.
    So, how about you provide some full context, so that we can learn better from what it is you're trying to tell us?
    Thanks for the videos, and thank you for making them so that I can still learn stuff.

    • @JoeMalovich
      @JoeMalovich  6 лет назад +4

      JR Bailey that is something that I struggle with. Mostly in this type of video I'm not trying to convey any points besides the entertainment of watching a brush hog in action. I try to create content that would interest me and I've spent a bunch of time just watching this type of forestry clearing.
      I suppose I could add some information about proper technique or a review but really I only have 2 hours experience running a brush hog. Maybe the experience of learning it would provide more entertaining content.

    • @jrbailey3208
      @jrbailey3208 6 лет назад

      Joe Malovich
      Well Joe, You've Got 2 hours more experience running a brush hog than I do!
      I currently live in Central Wyoming but I'm prepping my house to put on the market, so I can relocate to South Central Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula.
      So the techniques that you are using, are teaching me a lot whether you know that or not, as I'm learning from you as you go!
      Only to do a lot of what you're doing when I get up to Alaska, but I am going to have to start with even more basic stuff like what kind of tractor should I consider within my budget?
      Informational parts of videos can be just as you're going along, such as you started to say this is a Kubota 39l tractor but then you stopped.
      Is the 39 L 4 x 4 unit or is it a two-wheel drive? The engine sounded like a diesel but I wasn't sure. What is the horsepower rating for The 39 L?
      Just basic information that really helps those of us who are attempting to learn techniques outside the scope of our knowledge base, which we will hopefully utilize in the future.
      I'm not asking you to go in-depth, just the basics of okay, this is why I'm pushing those long branches into the ditch instead of pulling them out taking them up to the house to cut up for firewood or kindling.
      Basics like I'm clearing this area for the purpose of, and then whatever the purpose for clearing the area actually is.
      When you point it out the really wet areas that you had encountered and clearing out the brush, the first thing I thought of was were types of crops to plant down in that area that would need a lot of water!
      My first thought was fruit trees, or grapes, Etc.
      Basically I am a utilitarian and a pragmatist, if it works keep it, if it doesn't work, Chuck it!
      I hope this helps where my thought process is, and I believe where the thought process ease of a number of your viewers are at, who enjoy watching your videos as I do.
      Thanks again for the reply and I look forward to your further videos.

    • @JoeMalovich
      @JoeMalovich  6 лет назад +2

      JR Bailey it's an L3901 made by Kubota 39hp. That wet area would not be good for planting much, only gets sun 1/3 of a day. As for tractor selection and discussion check out tractorbynet.com
      Whatever you get it seems like a grapple will get more use than a bucket for woodsy property. Also buy from a dealer that is local and will support.
