- In a video message amid the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election, former Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Monday said the Congress has come up with a revolutionary step- the Mahalakshmi scheme-to ensure justice to the hard work and penance of women as they face a crisis amid severe inflation.
“Under Congress’s ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, we will give ₹1 lakh every year to a woman from a poor family,” she said.

better than giving 1 lakh per year to poor female is to increase the MNREGA days from 100 to 200 per year and use MNREGA to build rural infra like PM Awas to SC/EWS/ST families, Every Rural Home to have Toilet, Har Ghar Nal, 100kw to 2MW solar offgrid power plant for each village to meet its residential, commercial and irrigation power requriement.

Promise of good welfare schemes has been central piece of Congress. And these are good promises. But there are two problems. First, eligibilty for it narrows down everyday. It promised waiving of farm loans in 2018. When it was implemented, not all got benefit of it. I am not going to say how they will find budget for it. Its govt's problem. I hope, its eligibility criteria doesnt narraows down further that it will only reach few. That points out second problem. A policy or scheme only work if govt takes it seriously and doesnt forget after winning elections. Congress is notorious for weak implementation of its own schemes. Take Indira Gandhi Aawaas Yojana for example which was remodelled into PM awas Yojana under BJP. Many who could benefit from it were not even aware of it before. But during BJP, it was made popular by BJP and more people got benefitted from it. Promise of good governance is attractive due to Congress's weak record as government. Which is why Modi ki Guaranty slogan works well for BJP.
