Making sure all cylinders are getting good fuel and spark is definitely a must. Might need a carb cleaning or rebuild. Might need to set the governor higher also. This one lugs down pretty hard when it first gets engaged. I try to slowly get the drum moving with the clutch before I fully engage it.
@@collinscustoms thank you! There’s a new carb, plugs, coils and I try to get the drum moving by moving the clutch in slow and it catches for a second then dies. How do you adjust the governor?
Should have adjustable rods connecting the throttle lever to the governor mechanism that runs off the fan belt system. Then another rod that runs back to the carb....thst should also be adjustable. Without looking at it myself though it's hard to diagnose what could be happening.

I have the same engine on mine. Just bought it and as soon as you engage the clutch it shuts off. Any pointers?
