- In this video I describe how I made mods to the Everlast Powertig 255 EXT welder to improve cooling fan noise level.

Nicely done and well thought out. May be actually a desired modification.
Thank you very much! I was looking forward to doing it, for at least couple of years
Nice job done! Thank you for nice explaining!
Thank you
Genius. 👏
Thank you very much
You are a professional
Thank you very much!
very cool.
Thank you!
Nice idea. Should be like that from factory. Also one large fan would move more cfm. Not sure why the move to 4 basically computer fans. Unless they needed more static pressure that smaller fans allow.
Thank you! Now, I gotta think about how to make the torch cooler quieter :)

I completely agree it should be like that from the factory. Single point of failure. If the 1 fan dies not all the components could die. Granted they could easily get over this. Also I'm not sure, but the cost and total amperage may also be lower on 4 vs 1 large.
Nice
Thank you!
Great upgrade!
Would you be able to add detail on the resistors and relays you used? I have the same machine and would like to duplicate this mod.
Mine is now out of warranty now, so it's time to fix this.
Edit: After re watching, i noticed you included the resistor specs. I missed that the first time.
Thank you for watching!
I like the outcome. I just got the 255ext and it is pretty loud. Coming from a Thermalarc 185tsw it's pretty shocking. I had one come in damaged. Returned it and just got the replacement yesterday. Both where loud. 1st had 4 fans the 2nd has only a single large one. I'd definitely like to do something to cut down on the constant noise. I enjoyed your vid.
Would you happen to have the link to the single fan setup you mentioned?
Thank you. Remember, doing any modifications to your welder will likely void the warranty. The channel I mentioned is by this guy, he’s from Ukraine, he repairs welders for living. The link to his channel should appear at the time I say it in the video. I couldn’t direct you to a specific video, since I watched it just for my information long ago and it was a different welder anyway.
I also watch Ave's htp watercooler vid. He replaced the motor driven fan with 4 electric ones and at full blast it was really quiet. I was all ready to switch out the 4 oem fans for the quiet ones he used. But #2 got the single big sucker. I'd love to switch it for a bit more quiet. Could always switch it back should I need servicing in the next 5yrs. This is one area they could have charged a few extra bucks for. Guess they know their demographic far better than I do
It would seem I received a 2023 model. They moved from 4 to 1 large fan. Said it's more reliable
@@MrHotcress one fan noise reducing modification would be even easier. No relay necessary :)
Yes, and your thermal arc has a much lower duty cycle at full output.
I have a 250ex powertig with a water cooler & both fans run always when turned on. I have a small shop space so it gets annoying very quickly.
Water cooler itself produces lots of noise. I looked inside it and found that the fan is on the same shaft as the coolant pump. Not so easy to make it quiet.
@@TinkeringNerd the 250ex and cooler are two separate unites. So I have two single fans running full speed when the welders turned on. Be nice to have a thermo switch so the fans would kick on when the welder starts getting hot letting me know it's time for a break 😉
Those missing parts are probably for the 325ext, just use the same mother board.
Very possible

Warranty is voided if you do this.
Yes, and I mentioned it in the video.
Great idea, I am lucky because my welding area is around the corner from my 255EXT so I am literally in a different room than the welder that and I am getting old and my hearing is fading. LMFIAO Nice video.
Thank you very much. Using hearing protection was my back up option :)
