Visited the rum distillery on Grenada in 2000. Saw the juicing of the cane, manually mixed fermentation pools, and different grades of distilled product. Amazing craft of science and soul x
I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean drinking. Coconut rum got interested, so I looked up. Who made it stumbled across this video and continue to drink more rum. Sat here in awe as to how it was made
I'm actually curious how this authentic rum tastes like, here in eastern europe, all the crap that passes for rum, is counterfeit and is pretty much made in the same way: alcohol+colorant+artificial flavoring...
Here in the US, Texas specifically, we have the privilege of getting these rums. All the Barbados rums I have right now, Doorly's Foursquare ECS, Mount Gay, and Plantation, are pure bliss in a bottle. I can't imagine what they'd be like straight from the barrel.
If you go to a specialised drink shop or a good bar you get al sorts of rum from Barbados trinitat jamaica and so on also online at least in Austria it's easy to get the best rums onnthe world.
I'm not expert about rum. I'm here becouse I bought in Italy a bottle of Cuban rum "aged 12 years" for € 8.00 (9.25 Usa dollars). Was it a fraud? Is it possible so cheap?
Where did this recipe come from? Who came up with the recipe to make Rum? Was it based on an accidental discovery? trial and error? I got interested in rum having eaten rum flavoured cookis and egg nogg. But reinforced after seeing the movie Treasure Island and later Pirates of the Caribbean where Captain Jack Sparrow hid his stash of rum on a deserted island dune of sand. I puchased a tiny sample bottle of Captain Morgan (that tasted like listerine's original mouth wash recipe). I am certain the real rum recipe is much more satisfying. Enjoyed learning the process how real rum is made and appreciating the toil and aging process involved that makes the added expense much more rewarding. Will taste test this version next. But not for drinking.
Many alcoholic drinks have come around by just simply eating or cooking unripe foods. Almost any fruit contains alcohol, whether you know it or not. There are yeasts on the skins and once you blend them with a liquid, your liquid will start fermenting. Especially in the older days where it would be hard to store foods at lower temperatures, this process would probably have developed quickly. People drank it, enjoyed it, and started doing it again. Now as for distilling, that's another process. Probably people tried to get the germs out of it by cooking it and they liked the smell of alcohol or something.
I think they collect UPTO 80c, that way you get the tails which is where almost all the flavour is. I use dark sugar and molasses and collect from 74 upto 80c. As soon as I hit that temp, I stop. Then I add toasted oak and leave for a year.
Have you ever heard of "social conventions"? In a 3 minutes video, 1,6 C of difference is irrelevant, specially when the 99,99% of world population has nothing to do with distillation process during their life. 80 C is more than satisfactory. I hate picky complaining people
It's not the point..! It's like saying the day has 25 hours. If he said "At roughly 80 C, it evaporates", everything would be fine. Also, I was not complaining just getting facts right.
That guy knows exactly when ethanol evaporates, is his job. The point is that nobody gives a shit if it evaporates at 78,4 C instead. Save your energies for better comments
I always thought of carribean rum as the standard of quality but after a walkthrough of this dirt riddled hellhole its changed my perspective entirely.
Machetes and sugarcane, nothing more raw than that. Respect.
"But why is the rum gone?" is the single best selling quote for the whole rum industry.
You know it!
Thank you Cuban Morgan Freeman for the tour.

Grenada makes some good rum!
I grew up near a big rum maker in Trinidad, so it's good to learn about the fermentation part of this.
I appreciate the masterful craftsmanship From these people as well as the dedication it takes to produce a great rum 4 connoisseurs

Funny how the Irish took over the Caribbean Rum business 🥃
there's a very interesting history about the Irish in Jamaica, and the accent similarities. Worth looking up, you might enjoy it.

I can't believe how manual their processes are.
These guys speak so fluent English
Haha eediyat 😂😂😂

Well, Ethanol actually evaporates at 78,4 C, not at 80 C. The Rum looked good, if it tastes as good it's delicious.

Are you about to have your period, or are you just getting teeth..?
Ciu?
Remnants of the triangle transatlantic slave trade.
Mount Gay has some of the best tasting Rum I have ever had, but by God is their Factory disgusting!
With some spit a little rust. Maybe some bat shit. 😂 I bet they never seen a broom before
Didn't tell me anything about making rum. 'Sugar, molasses, rum' is not how it is made. So to drive a car do you 'get in it turn it on and drive'?
my dad works there woud mnpt recp,ed
Ah no hampden mon, thank you the hype is already too much
Still taste like normal cheap shit on the shelf in australia.. Canadian scotch and some otherd are way better than rum. Even bundaberg better
Why is this rum producing company called "gay"? Doesn't that make this rum producing company gay?
And why is this rum company gay?
hehehe gay hehehe
What are you 6?
The plant is filthy dirty, we should avoid drink made from this plant
I always thought of carribean rum as the standard of quality but after a walkthrough of this dirt riddled hellhole its changed my perspective entirely.
Should be nationalized, as always you have some white people taking whats yours. Smh
Only cheap rum is made from molasses. Better rum is made directly from sugar cane juice.
Mount Gay Ltd.... Looks like a 12 yo discovered this place
What's with the American midwest music to this video. Rum is a party why no Caribbean beats?
