I always wanted to try an oil extractor. I was always concerned about getting all the old oil out of the engine. The only way to do that is to pull the drain plug. I think the extractor would work really well changing the differential fluid. As always, I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
It has its place in the shop, and yes, it will work great for differential and automatic transmission fluids, for example. I continue to change the motor oil the old-fashioned way. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
was gonna say if its hard to see the oil in the extractor, place a flashlight on one side, which lights up the fluid inside. I do this when diluting concentrated antifreeze 50/50 with purified water in its jug. I got two of those extractors. Mainly for removing power steering and brake fluid maintenance. I prefer changing hot oil by plug as it washes out everything. Although these do tend to fail; i blame it on the check valve not sealing properly. I also recycle oil in a 5 gallon pail; multiple cars serviced with one trip to the autoparts for recycling. And of course there is always a spill. I found those 2.5' by 4' driveway drip pans under the catch pan resolve that problem...
Yes, it would work really well for extracting old power steering fluid. And like you, I recycle all fluids properly either by taking them to the auto parts store of the county recycling facility. I do have to buy one of those big driveway drip pans. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
I agree that the best way to change the oil and filter is the old tried and true way. But maybe this is good for coolant, power steering fluid, or transmission fluid? Maybe it can be used for other purposes.
Yes. It’s silly to mix clean motor oil with about a quart of dirty oil. It defeats the purpose. However, extractors are great for other fluids and/or systems as you mention. Additionally, I don’t think the combined fluid dispenser function is practical, unless you use one as s dedicated dispenser. Cleaning this thing would nullify any time savings. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
The thing about mixing old fluid with new is that when you change transmission fluid you won't get the quart or so that is sitting in the torque converter unless your torque converter has a drain plug of it's own (some do).
I wonder if it would be good for a marine application. Relocate the filters to a better place. I bet there isn't much room with these motors in a boat.

I’ll stick with the pan drain plug method. Could have used this for rear differential fluid change. Good info though.
Agree 100%. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻

Didn’t know that. Thank you. Actually, I know little to nothing when it comes to auto transmissions. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻

Probably. But as far as my Vette is concerned, I’ll continue doing oil changes the old fashioned way. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
