I have motion graphics content coming next week among other things, so enjoy the weekend everyone :) Check out my channel homepage for more great and useful content like this video.
Make a video on creating 100% vector textures in adobe illustrator, because the ideal method cause raster effects. There are so many paper and other textures on stock sites. There is no such detailed video on RUclips, as a beginner i am really finding it difficult to achieve that realism with vectors.
The recolour artwork option is incredible, I used to rely on global swatch before but don't have to anymore because this is so much better. You can change the colours manually, or lock them in the colour palette and move around, change all the same colour at once like global swatch, but the good thing is, it only works on your selection. So you could leave out some objects if you don't want to change their colour. Or copy and create the same design with different colours in seconds. Works on gradients too. There's also small details like interchanging colours between different objects. Once you get to know it, chances are high you'll fall in love with it
Regarding your last tip: The ruler and measure tool will only show you a 1:1 monitor to image pixel ratio. Whether or not it will actually display at 100% on your monitor depends on the DPI scaling of your physical monitor. For example, with my current equipment, at 100% (actual size), my 1cm actually equals 9mm when I hold my ruler up to the screen. I believe Illustrator calculates 1 pixel at 1/72", so if you have a giant iMac monitor that runs at 109ppi instead of the standard 72ppi, you might need to scale the zoom up to about 150% to see the true measurement on screen.
actually it's something that has bugged me for years. adobe is a big company and researching the DPI of every mac and a lot of windows machines isn't that hard. The only reason I guess they never did make perfect 100% rulers is probably the fact that most people don't use it. And a random 100+ percent for real size it is.
I can take a guess. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the tutorial, it's the fact that it's an Adobe product. Which a lot of people find is way overprice, and hate the software for it. The title does sound like one of those cheesy Facebook clickbait titles though. May have something to do with it.
I knew 90% of the tips, but I always enjoy your videos because I've been watching your channel since 4 years ago and I've seen you grown as a graphic designer which inspires me too as a graphic design student. I use that recolor artwork button for mostly logo color options.
About that zoom tip at last, when I'm designing something for A4 size printing that involves text I always zoom to 134 or 135% because that is actually really close to the real A4 size and gives me the idea how bigger and smaller the font should be.
@@SatoriGraphics I've been working on a logo design for a client for over a month now, coming from last year. So far no success, but I started learning Graphics design from your videos and it's been a while since I've been here. Watching these videos, I see that I've been making critical mistakes, hopefully, I'll get it right this time. Once again thank you. Satori.
Wow i did not know any of that, and i thought i had learned so much now that i know how to use the 3D tool and how to make isometric design.. This was really great, Thanks!
About your last tip.... Different screens with different pixel density will give you different 100% scale. My work monitor is 21.5" 1080p (don't panic please) and produces accurate scales at 130% may be (I can't recall accurately at this moment). One can simply put an actual scale on the screen and match the ruler scales of the Illustrator to that while adjusting the scale value manually. You can find the scale ratio accurately that way and for that specific display, it will be OK for eternity.
Knew only 1, the last one. The first 3 were foreign to me and I stumbled across the recolor panel, by accident, when I was figuring out how to recolor pattern swatches. Good stuff.
might have another one for you. If you are in a text box you can't use spacebar or "h" for the hand tool because it will just add the characters to your text line/box. BUT- if you hold down the alt key, you can pan around your image. discovered that by accident while messing with the text tool from this video
nice tips, only one I didn't know already was the line style, really handy. thanks for this tips illustrator has so many tools it escapes to know them all.
Great Videos. Some one once said "You can have ten years of experience or one year of experience ten times..." Tips like these help folks keep moving toward that next year of experience. Thanks!
@@SatoriGraphics I've been adding timestamps to some of your vids, so I can come back to them later. Your channel is by far the best graphic channel on RUclips!
Very nice tips. I actually knew about the very first tip which is the touch type tool But I really liked the second one where I can change the default text settings. It is going to be really handy for me.
Glad i saw your channel today. Im corel user since last 15 years, now trying to make my hand good in illustrator, and saw plenty oof channels, but honestly, you!!! you are pro man. How can i support you. please tell me. Thank you.
OMG the width tool 😶 how did i not know that. I had a project recently where i had to draw a LOT of shading on a character's hair, and i work with keyboard and mouse. I drew all those shapes with the pen tool, or copy pasting and editing.

i can't wait to get that
0:36 - Touch Type tool (move characters without outlining type)
1:35 - Change illustrator default font
2:50 - Width tool
3:10 - Appearance panel - switch off "new art has basic appearance"
3:45 - Hide all anchor points & paths (CMD + H)
4:05 - Limit Colours (Recolor Artwork Panel)
4:40 - Actual Size of artwork
👍😄

thanks for clarifying that
Yes, I have to scale to approx 134-135% for 1:1 scale. I've used that tip for years, but the scale has changed based on monitor resolution.
Yeah, I think saying Cmnd+1 will give a better result.
Mine is 117,32%

I just want to know who are the people out there giving free tutorials a thumbs down?
People who hate clickbait titles.
apparently the one percent club
people who aren't fanboys nor zombies
Why you care... is my question
I can take a guess. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the tutorial, it's the fact that it's an Adobe product. Which a lot of people find is way overprice, and hate the software for it. The title does sound like one of those cheesy Facebook clickbait titles though. May have something to do with it.
I'm changing my default font the minute I get into illustrator. Brilliant, thank you.
It just works per file?
Smo Tabata, yup. Very misleading.
@@smotabata the way to change it permanently is to have no file open when you change it.
I used sometimes, but the turn off new art has basic appearance is new and so useful. Thanks a lot sir
That sneaky touch tool!!! Thanks Tom!!! That default is hidden so deep!
You bet, that is one to keep an eye out for lol
The recolor option is one I def didn't know about! That will come in very handy for sure!
Great to hear thanks :)
@@SatoriGraphics no, thank you!
To be honest, I've seen them in plain sight but never thought of how useful they could be except now after watching this 🤗 Thanks Satori

You're very welcome and happy to help
The touch type tool and perhaps the last one are my newly learnt tips thanks to you. Awesome and insightful content as always Satori, thanks.
Thank you for the very handy tips. Changing the default font is a ripper, but all of them are helpful.
It's great but I've found out you will need to save that as a template because otherwise when you restart Ai it will revert back, which is annoying
SATORI IS A CATEGORY BY HIMSELF.!!! SPEECHLESS.!!!
Hey thanks a lot, that's a comment Iike to read :)

No problem Akash, have a great day
You got me with two. Nice job.
haha, well now you know :)
I learned one of these only just recently
Also if you press alt while using the width tool you can just change each side of the stroke differently (not symmetric)
Great tip thanks
3 out of 5 - First two are new to me. Ty for the great vid!
Glad I could help
