Omg. I was thinking about going to the car dealer, bc I had no idea. I had gotten ticketed many yrs ago for one being out. So I am on it this time round. So glad I saw this video and had previously gone to a parts store to get the proper bulbs. I was wondering what that dealership would have charged me..geeze 50 bucks (but I would have done it, had it not been for this video 😄 )
You may be right on the bang for the buck. I do wish it was a little louder, but because my wife drives this car mostly, it is perfectly fine for our needs.
Some model years don't use that clip style but instead have 2 screws. None of my Phillips fit properly and it was a pain. I believe Subaru uses the JIS screws, which is Japanese industrial standard. It looks similar to Phillips but it's a little different. It's probably worth getting a set of JIS screwdrivers if you want to do a little jobs like this on your Subaru or other Japanese machine.
Where did you buy yours? I got mine from E- Bay. They were cheap enough. I ended up with extras as they gave me too many. I think they just randomly filled the bag. lol.
@@scottfirman You could also get them from amazon, there are so many to choose from and you get them in sets. I swapped out my interior with white LED lights and will be doing the same with my licence plate lights.
@@XTC42863 Watch out on some of those bulbs. There are some cheap ones that fail quickly. Also, the overhead lights on our Subaru turned out too bright so I had to go back to the regular lighting. I would suggest warm type lighting in the cabin and the brighter ones where you need them. Now days they make many different types, cold, warm and colored. Just like when they came out with the home bulbs.
Do not buy the cheaper E- Bay ones. They dont last. Generally, you get enough for an entire car. I ended up with enough for two cars. I cannot say which ones are better or be a judge because I did get the cheaper ones as a test to see how long they last. Its not a controlled test. To do a controlled test would require a HOT and COLD chamber, the bulbs placed in an enclosed environment as in a car door with a lens and what not. Mabe someone cold set up such a test and do it then release the results. I dont have that kind of time but it would be feasable. Of course you would have to mimic door opening and closings, road vibrations, door slamming, extreme temprature variations. Those kinds of things. Something an actual LAB would have in order to produce a fair and accurate result. Something a University or whatever would be capable of.
@@ctecproductions I bought a led bulb(WLJH 31mm LED Festoon Bulb Extremely Bright Canbus Error Free 2835 Chipsets DE3022 DE3175 LED Interior Dome Light Map Door Courtesy Light Bulbs) from Amazon and am ready to replace my 2019 Outback's map light, but it is a bit longer. Did I buy the wrong model?
RUclips misses you man! We need more of your awesome Forester modification videos. Why not switch out your rear reflectors with some led lit ones that double as sequential turn signals? Safety 1st! :-)
Hi there. Great vid. I am looking to replace those door footwell lights you mention in this video but I am having a hard time finding which LED's to get. What code are they? I am going to be buying on Amazon and there are too many options so I figure having the correct code will be helpful. I appreciate if you can help, thank you!!
The bulbs are the same 168 bulb code for the door puddle lights and these license plate bulbs, trunk bulb, etc. They are pretty universal in this car so it wouldn't hurt to buy 2 more for spares as well. Good luck in your search.
How do U feel about not going with a LED replacement for the fog light as I understand it actually cuts down on visibility and going with a PIAA Plasma Yellow Ion replacement
Still enjoying the vids.....can you do a short video with some rolling/moving shots of the Forester. Most all the review vids on this car are reviews from inside the cab.....I wanna see some outside shots of the car and side rolling shots. Keep up the good work.
Such a great channel. Desperately needs more Forester content on a regular basis. I miss new stuff from your channel here.
Thank you. I've been really lazy. Haha!
Thanks for the info. To save prying, you can push the housing towards the clip shown at 0:55, and no tools are needed.
Great video . . . forgot that the unit was so easy to remove! Thank you for your comprehensive approach!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just what i needed. Thanks for posting!

Were did you get those bulbs? Don you have a link? Are those bulbs still holding?
I don't have the car anymore, but I just got them from eBay. I don't have the link anymore. Sorry

thanks for the help
Thanks for watching!
Thank you
You're most welcome
I did all LED swap on interior and exterior bulbs... The bulbs die quickly. Any thoughts?
Maybe the wattage is too high? Consider getting them from Subispeed. They will be more $ but are tried and true.

What’s the size of the bulb?
Great job thanks. Btw did you update your map bulbs?
Thank you very much. Yes, the map light bulbs we upgraded to LED. I have a video on that as well.

what year is this subaru forester you installed this on?
It's a 2017. Thanks for watching!
All the newer ones use that type.

sir what tool did you use to remove the housing of the lights?
Just look up "pop tool kit" on eBay or Amazon and you'll find them. Good luck with your search.
CTEC Productions thanks sir but i did find a way of getting the housing of our forester just using my hand anyways thanks for the video sir😊
No problem at all.
would this work on a 2016 subaru levorg?
I am not sure, sorry.
WHERE IS BEST TO BUY THIS LED LIGHTS
I got mine from eBay or Amazon because it was cheap. You can get more expensive better quality ones from Subispeed
License plate and head and tail lights
Have you retired from making RUclips videos or upgrading your Forester? I am out of projects on mine, and need new ideas :-)
Yeah, just taking it easy and money going elsewhere for now.
Hope everything is OK.
Everything is good. Just modding my GTI instead but stopped posting my installs. Thanks for your concern!
