How To Change User Password In phpMyAdmin If You're Locked Out Of Your Site | WP Learning Lab

When you don't have access to your website you can still Change User Password in phpMyAdmin. This situation could happen if you forget your password and the forgot password link doesn't work or if your site is hacked.
You do need to have access to your cPanel for this to work.
First, log into your hosting account and then locate the phpMyAdmin icon. Click that icon to access your phpMyAdmin.
Once in phpMyAdmin you'll need to open the database that linked to your WordPress site.
If you're not sure which database it is, the best thing you can do is open your wp-config.php file to see what the database name is.
Once, you have the database located and opened look for the wp_users table.
Click it to open it. In that table you will see a row for each user on your site.
Find the one that is having password issues. You will see a long string of random characters. It is not the real password, it's an MD5 Hash of the password.
To get a functioning password attached to the user you'll need to MD5 Hash a new password.
To do this, Google search for MD5 Hash generator. Type in the password you want for the user and generate the MD5 Hash.
Copy that hash into the password field of the user you want to update. Make sure the characters are saved into the field by refreshing the page.
Now you should have no problem logging into your site. Once you're in the dashboard you can set a new password or you can keep the one you just created, it's up to you.

I can't even see my c panel so can't do the php. Have tried resetting password through 'Lost Password' and still does not work saying too many redirections. I don't seem to be able to get back to my dashboard to continue with my website. Seemed to go wrong after adding the www. before my url.

It's allot more simple if you just click edit and on the user_pass row change choose function MD5 before setting the password to whatever you want, click save and the MD5 is generated automatically so you're good to go! :)

Hey mate, I know this is an older video.. I'm not using wordpress, we have a custom generated CMS, but it seems I have been locked out of the admin password. When I change it in the database it still does not work. In my case I have two strings, ones is called key_password and the other is called password.. I know it is a long shot, but any ideas?

It's definitely a long shot. Are there any other users in the db whose can log in? If so, you can make maybe figure out what the key_password and password are for.
Also, since you have access all the files, there will be a file somewhere that has code to check if the password entered into the login form is the correct one and then log you in. If you can find that piece of code you should be able to figure out how the key_password and password are different and what is needed in the database.

Hi could you send a link to the page please? Have you created with WooCommerce? For a quick fix you can go in to users in your WP dashboard and reset the password that way. If you don't have the admin username and password, but you have access to the hosting account and the MySQL database, then this is the only way. Which part isn't working for you?

You could just change the email address and reset the password. Rather than use the md5. Just as easy.

I'm not sure I understand. You want to build websites for clients using the Divi theme, but then not allow your clients to have the website you created using Divi? That would mean you're not building a website for them.
You bought Divi to be able to provide a valuable service to clients. That's a cost of doing business. If a client pays you for a site then they are also indirectly paying you for the page builder you use to create the site.
