The Female Electus are quite the challenge! But if anyone can bring her around it's you Jamie. Thanks for the upload.
Fennel is gorgeous, slow, but not aggressive. I admire your patience.
Is incredible to see her not hurrying to go back anymore... definitely patience, consistency and time are keys.
It's so cool to see how Fennel has come so far! You are so good at project birds, Jamie!
Great video .Really shows how birds are all so different with training .My pineapple conure learns fast and my quaker is so slow to do anything 😔🤣He makes up for it though in being super cute and cuddly ☺️
I feel like Fennel is the "Eeyore" of the birdworld.
Absolutely. Fits perfectly!
Gosh my female budgie who I just started training with also eats ridiculously slow. It takes several minutes between step ups because she just sits and eats her one bite of millet FOREVER. Being patient really is an art lol!
On another note Fennel never fails to stun me with her colours!
Major accomplishments! I've been owned by eckies for many years..... Perfect!
OOhhhh she is SO cute!! something about her face makes her SO adorableeeeee
I tried to click train my Eclectus boy and he picked up on it immediately. No, he did not perform targeted behaviors - instead he started click-reinforcing my behaviors that he wished for me to perform!! Really!! He would click me for feeding him, giving treats, approaching the cage or perch, etc. LOL!! Very smart boy. He loves to make me happy or laugh, but on his own terms and time. We work it out, but he is now the only one click- reinforcing.
He is also a very slow eater, and presents a neutral "poker face" and still stance as he observes and analyzes. I caught on :) Very loving, sensitive, observant communicative bird. Very energetic when not observing and analyzing. Love experiencing all the unique species, you guys teach us so much ❤️
ROFLMFAO! OMG, that is beyond funny!!!!!!!!
@@mehere8038 Imagine my surprise 😮😆🤭🤗
@@groucrow9709 I can!!!!!
So tell me, how intelligent/easy to train are you? Do you learn quickly in response to the clicker?
I'm imagining a bird version of this forum where your bird is online right now discussing how intelligent & trainable his human is with the other birds. We tend to associate ease of training with intelligence, so I'm curious where your bird is rating you on the intelligence scale now lol or at least trying to, tbh, I'm still laughing too hard at him clicker training you!!!!!!!
& why does your comment not have a LOT more likes????? Should be pinned for everyone to see & laugh about :)
So glad to see her starting to come out of her lil shell and get less anxious!
I love watching your videos and thumbs up for what u r doing. That patience is awesome 👍
My behaviorist takes on project birds too. She is currently working with a parrotlet. The parrotlet was put in a cage with 3 other parrotlets and this one was the lone survivor. I would never forgive myself for making a mistake like that. Thats why researching the species before you get them is so important. The owner also had her on a crappy seed only diet.
Jamie you are great at building trust with birds. You have got Fennel to trust you all of the way. Your great patience and your caring has shone through once again. It’s great to see. May you all please take care and stay safe.
How wonderful!💖
is a patience game to wait for an ekkie to eat something, they chew so slow!!
So excited she’s finally getting it!
Truly amazing how smart birds are! That bird is gorgeous
Great training ✋🏼😃👍🏼
I’m early! I haven’t watched but I know it’s going to be great
Thank you so much for sharing this experience with Fennel! Its so interesting to see how varied a parrots behaviour can be and to be able to understand what it means!
She is so adorable omg..
She is a very beautiful bird.
Fennel is teaching you patience. You learn more from the birds than they learn from you😉
Fennel is such a unique character. So happy to see her opening up more. 🤗
Beautiful bird
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. I’m glad I found this channel because I want to have a bird one day once I get my own place. I’ve learned a lot and can’t wait to learn more!
What kind of parrot do you want to get?
@@MrJdubz100 I haven’t decided on one yet. I’ve been raising chickens for a long time so probably something on the large side
I had chickens growing up as well but parrots are a lot different in comparison to chickens. Large parrots are a ton of work.
@@MrJdubz100 yeah they seem like they can be. But I’m not going to get me a parrot until I have my own property and a better job. Because I work all day long right now and I know that birds need a lot of attention and dedication. My chickens take all my free time as it is right now!
Beautiful and wonderful
Kinda think she liked the double treat one to get on your hand one to get off. Smart birdie.
So very cute cute 🥰
My God she is stunning!!! I have never seen that species of parrot before. Gorgeous.. seems sweet.
Cutest ❤️
Female Eclectus are really a challenge but you are so good at project birds ,Jamie
very cute
Wow I’m so early for a change!!
She is beautiful 😍
💖
Holy bananas how can a birb take soooooo long to chew a stinkin seed 😂 i started getting so antsy and anxious just watching her chew, it's like chinese water torture lmao
Thank you, for fast forwarding the chews
ikr? I always admire Jamie's patience with her birds.
yup. My Ekkie also takes a while to eat. 1 hour to eat 2 tablespoons of chop.
Yes hehehe my quaker takes his sweet time. You just learn to wait
mine eats fast, but the time he takes to move to the food is probably worse than this one. If he's in a slow mood, everything is done in EXTREME slow motion lol lots & lots of staring without moving, just watching, knowing what he should do, but I think enjoying the control he has in keeping me waiting for an eternity while thinking about if he wants to do whatever it is or not
Wow this is a slog. Amazing to watch. Have you tried pine nuts. My girl is mad for them
Hi! I am now taking care of my sister couple year old budgie and over the past few weeks I have been trying to tame her. Many things in the Budgie course have been very helpful but since we have had her for a few years I don’t know get her tamed, Does anyone have any tips or advice.
I think that I would have a tough time working with a bird that does everything so slowly haha. I just worked with a “slow” cockatiel. She didn’t move slowly but it took her like 15-20 reps to pick up on target training. My parrots took 1-3 reps to figure it out.
hi I have a sun conure can u give me tips on how to train it
@11:37. I see a heavy duty grinder there. Is that for cutting down bird claws?
😍
Fennel is so cute. Any news from handsome Bean?
Any suggestions on where I can find an Eclectus? I had a Cockatiel before. I’ve been researching birds for a while, and I have decided on an Ekkie. I am in San Diego. I’m not finding many options. I’ve seen a few breeders that ship. I would really love to find one that has been raised on the Bird Tricks diet, or something similar. However, I am willing to go through the diet conversion if need be. I appreciate any suggestions. 😊
The slow motion reminds me of my boy lol he's a total perch potato, tv addict fatty - while my girl is the total opposite & a stressy little hyperactive dynamo
My four year old galah still just won’t stay on a perch for training, he is just so distracted with space to want what treat I have he is recall trained but sometimes can get cocky
The vid is so cool! How do u have so much patience, it’s amazing! Also I’m 13 and live in a apartment, I’m planning on getting a sun conure, is there any recommendations of parrots that aren’t that loud but still have that activness of sun conure. Keep up good work
Green cheek conures have a similar amount of energy but are a bit less loud
I would say the same my pineapple conure is actually quiet .My quaker parrot however is louder than my budgies ,conure and Amazon put together 🤣Have to say amazons are loud but mine shouts for a couple of minutes then is quiet my quaker can chat and scream for minutes or what feels like forever 🤣
I have a sun conure and I live in an apartment... They're loud bro. There is no way around it. The sun comes up mine he starts better not care about sleeping in. I can be at my neighbor's house clear across the parking lot I can hear him plain as day LOL you better have tolerant neighbors. The reality is it just sounds like another bird in the neighborhood but they're loud and can be quite temperamental when you don't give them what they want then they get really loud and start throwing a temper tantrum. You might want to go with a green cheek 😁
The best part is I have a sweet cockatiel. She starts chirping and singing like cockatiels do so my sun he joins in only they don't whistle they don't shirt they squawk and they squawk and they squawk 🤣
Best bet is a green cheek... Waaaay quite compared to a sun con...
Capri is beautiful like both you and Dave! 😄 but holy smokes when Dave walks in in the beginning of this video i just realized just HOW MUCH capri looks EXACTLY like Dave! That’s so adorable daddy and daughter,!🥹 I have 5 kiddos, but the one that looks the most like my late husband is My 2nd oldest child is mine and my late husbands first daughter(she just turned 9 years old last month May 2022. My late husband died back in August 2018) 💙💕 she still cries for him 💔, and I am still broke and always will be …. I lost half of my soul, my everything. I cry just as bad for any animals I ever lost. when I lost my cats a year or so later when I had to rehome them because we had to move just me n kids but because my dad was helping me with the mortgage and all that lovely🙄finances that comes with buying a house, a fixer upper at that, he said no cats in the house
I’m sorry for your losses. I am not going to have kids but I do have 3 parrots and I can’t imagine having to give them up.
@BirdTricks If you don't mind me asking, what is the reason that you personally wouldn't get an Eclectus? Is it because they're too chill or not challenging enough? I'm thinking of getting a male one. Cheers.
They are plenty challenging and plenty smart, but many of the females don’t have the friendliest demeanor. Fennel has some attributes that are common among female eclectus.
In a Q&A video you did, someone wondered what other animal you could possibly want train if you didn’t have birds to train and you couldn’t come up with anything. I say dogs! You should check out some of Susan Garrett‘s videos on how she trains dogs. World champion in agility. Trains using games, positive reinforcement and permission. I have a feeling you would love her methodology!
I wonder how old is she? Because she is so chill.
She is 7 months.
Gizmo, my 3-month-old Eclectus is demanding when it's food time. (sigh) How to train him NOT to scream? Just ignore him?
ignore the screaming & catch & reward him when he doesn't too. Also, make sure he's given screaming time at a different time of the day, so as to get it out of his system & not associate screaming with food. Mine scream at either the wild birds or videos for a few hours every day to get it out of their system
If he is bonded to you and doesn’t like when you leave the area you can also leave when he screams (until he stops) and come back when he stops. My macaw sometimes throws screaming fits so I immediately leave the room when she starts screaming which makes her stop, wait a couple minutes and then come back home in and reward her for being quiet.
@@MrJdubz100 I may try this.
@@mehere8038 Okay will try
vosmaeri eclectus right??
Definitely not. Vosmaeris fall into the purple colouring and the tail is a really distinctive orange. It is hard to see her colouring but the tail says she is definitely not. She is still beautiful though
She moves like an old woman with arthritis lol. Is thus common amongst female eclectus aslo, like the stand offishness and slow eating?
Each bird is an individual of course but I have met a few female eclectus over the years and most of them had this kind of chill attitude and were slow movers. The most recent one that I interacted with at the vet didn’t seem too standoffish.
I think my female parrot hates me
Friggin' dinosaurs freak me out, man.
she is very low energy
Fennel is really improving. You are doing great with her Jamie!! Each time I watch a video I want to add a bird back into my life. 🐦🦜
Beautiful bird
