- "I am an illustrator based in the small Northern town of Waipu, New Zealand and I create work that combines hand drawn, painted and digital mediums. It was a joy to work alongside my Wellington-based friend Chris Callus who brought my illustrations to life through animation. I really enjoyed playing with the darker tones of “Punchline” to create a world that I hope is both visually interesting and emotionally engaging. Having enjoyed Ed’s music for such a long time, I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to create a video for his music in my own style (even writing this does not feel real) and the project has been an absolute dream come true." - Evan Heasman
This video was a collaborative effort from two ends of New Zealand’s North Island, with Evan (aka sojushots) illustrating from the town of Waipu and Chris animating from Wellington. Evan combined a range of hand drawing, inking and painting techniques to craft hundreds of illustration pieces. These were scanned and meticulously combined digitally to create a variety of creatures and scenes, from the somber interiors of a Fox’s woodland home, to enchanting forests and glowing underwater landscapes. The illustrations were then passed over to Chris who brought them to life through character animation, camera movement and digital effects.

The video is so creative. It's like ed is the fox, and his partner is trying to be anything and everything to follow him and not let him be alone, but in the end the loneliness is just from within.

man this is just stunning, it makes me so happy so see soju shots getting the appreciation he deserves. I've been following him since i was 13 and not only is his work breathtakingly beautiful, he's also such a lovely person. I remember posting some art when I was around 14 that was inspired by some of his work and he left a really encouraging comment which meant the world to kid me. I'm now at art school :')
