    Thank you!! Love the guitars in this. And wow, wouldn't have guessed that the title of the song had that much of a meaning hahah

      @kayachanneru  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, the guitars are really nice!
      What I was trying to say about the title is actually that I don't think it has that much meaning. I think the characters might’ve mainly been picked in order to create the sound of "sharara".

    • @雨s
      @雨s 4 года назад +1

      @@kayachanneru Ooh yeah, but I'm surprised that there even is any meaning you could get from it! (I didn't even know that it's in kanji, I always thought that the title is just "Sharara")

    I might be wrong, but I think in the chorus back-vocals are shouting "Selfish" first and then "No way". Great video anyway :)

    • @kayachanneru
      @kayachanneru  4 года назад +2

      Thank you! I think it had "no way" on screen in the subtitled version I mentioned in the annotations, but I can go back and check. I was more unsure about the middle one, to me it sounds like it might be "no way" - "selfish" - "no way". Didn't find much evidence for that either though, haha.

    • @BruceCopperfield
      @BruceCopperfield 4 года назад +2

      @@kayachanneru Yeah, in the video there's a glimpse of only "No way" on the screen, but in studio version I hear "Sel-fish" - "Noway", there's clearly a "sh" sound :) By the way, user 'javier
      ' commented a fun fact on one of the videos that this song could take samples from Jabalqa by Secret Chiefs 3, the drum breaks are almost identical for me.

    • @kayachanneru
      @kayachanneru  4 года назад +2

      @@BruceCopperfield I see, it really might be "selfish" then. I think I saw that comment too, really interesting. I also remember a comment (that's either gone now or I didn't find it again) about how dorothy's beginning melody sounds a whole lot like the song "Dust" by M|O|O|N.

    I disagree. I don’t think it’s solely about the sound (the sound of the word is much like the music is shaped), as Kyo simply could have chosen シャララ instead.
    I don’t get the reference to heike monogatari, as it’s sarasōju (沙羅双樹) instead of s(h)ara (沙羅) here. Still means sal tree(s).
    The title was even used in the stage setting (leaf pattern and a spiral)
    Doesn’t prove my point exactly but I don’t see any reason why Kyo should randomly pick words only to have them visualised.
    I suspect it is about what kind of image, feeling (emotion and haptics), or even smell or taste the music triggered. To me the sound is like a spiral, so the imagery of the title is strong with the pattern of the leaf and the scent:
    The resin of sal trees has a certain scent when burned.
    Or it’s the structure/pattern of the leaves or the Buddhist meaning. Or some memory he had in mind. Or, or, or. There are several possibilities why Kyo chose these words.
    Of course, it could be random… but I don’t think so, personally.
    It only bothers me because of the way it’s presented by the translator: “I couldn’t figure it out, so it’s just used for sound.” - we had these assumptions several times in the past only to be disproved later on. Everyone may have various associations or get stimulated differently, I respect that.
    Again, I don’t know for sure myself, but I want to be open for more options other than “I can’t figure it out so it has to be random.”
    It’s okay to just say: “I don’t know”!

      Hi, nice catch with the stage setting and the leaf patterns/spiral. I'm sorry to hear you feel I didn't make clear that that they're 当て字 is what I think, not a be-all end-all. After reading your comment I of course went back to what I had written in the description, and I feel that "I can't figure it out so it has to be random" is not an accurate representation of what I wrote. I stated that I suspect (meaning I think, but I can't know) they're 当て字, then proceeded to explain the kanji (sal tree, spiral) and then mentioned the Buddhist connotation it might have (through the heike quote, but I see how that can seem redundant). Sure, he could've used シャララ, but it's not the first time he would've used 当て字 instead. As you say, we can't know, but I thought I made it clear that my take on it is what I think, not know. Now, after reading your elaboration on the reasons you can imagine he chose those words for, I can definitely see how there's likely more to it and I probably should've emphasized that more. Thanks for sharing!
