Great video, thanks for sharing this great information!! Will the 53,54 uprights bolt straight up to a 49 deluxe upper and lower A arms and spindles ? Thanks David
@@ninja63639 basically same formula as cutting 1" off the spring then.. good to know, got my 38 pontiac i wanna drop a little and think im going this route as its easy to put back stock if need be.
If I'm not mistaken I heard somewhere you could take those uprights and flip them upside down and that'll drop the front end too I'm sure there's slight fabrication to it
Yeah man, that's one of the great things about '49-'54 Chevys. All the suspension and drivetrain parts are interchangeable. For your '50 I'd look for the brakes from a '51-'54 too. They changed the design to a more modern style and if you dont plan on going 65 mph or more the drums work perfectly. I'm swapping to disc brakes since I drive mine on the highway
@@ninja63639 thanks man, I knew the brakes were different between the years but wasn't sure if the uprights were interchangeable. I am considering a disc conversion up front. Going through dive bar nto the brakes and suspension once the body work is finished up.
Tom Burgess I'll have to double check but I think it's at about 21 or 2200. The trans has an electronic output so i have no speedometer. If I was to do it again, I would've left the PG rear and put in a 3 speed with a column shift. 5th isn't "needed" at all and a floor shift is way less fun
Tom Burgess It would get good gas mileage, but since I split my manifold and got my dual exhaust, I find myself jamming the gas instead of easing on it
The leaf springs I got were from a '53 Chevy. The guy said they were sagged about 2" or so. The perches I had made for the s10 axle are 1.5" tall and I'm using 3" blocks. The only issue I have is on the highway or big bumps or dips. The axle hits the frame. The good thing about that is it keeps the driveshaft from hitting the floor
Back in the day we didn’t do none of that. We just took the spring heater to it. Suspension ride? What’s that!! LOL
My rear leaves were heated. They each had a crease a few inches behind the front spring eyes
Did you ever make a part 2 to this video??
Not if its not posted. I honestly can't remember to tell you the truth. I sold the car now and have a '49 Ford club coupe now

Yep. If you can get the newer brakes grab them too. They changed to the newer style brakes in '50
Badass Holmes 😎😎
Hell yeah man. I wish my Ford was this easy
Good info, i know this is old. With the bottom a arms 1" spacers you made, how much drop did they give?
I'm not a 100% sure but I've read a one inch spacer will give you 2" of drop at the wheel

Yup that's exactly right

Cant do it on the Chevys but I'm in the process of doing it on my shoebox
Is the 53-54 uprights a direct bolt on for a 50? I'd like to bring my front end down some and don't want to cut coils or pay Fatman 500$.

Where are you located?
very clever 👍 👍 👍 , BTW what RPM does it cruise at 70mph?
Tom Burgess

Christopher Spencer wow that is terrific, those old stove bolts are really happy at that speed , and I bet gas mileage is great too

How much would this cost?
It's hard to say. I got all the parts from the guy I sold my 54 to when he pulled them out
@@ninja63639 how low did you go on the back? Did you have to cut the floor of the trunk?
