I appreciate this opportunity for us to open up and share experiences and information. The format using issues relating to more masculine brothers is missing from our community. Please continue with this series!!
I found this podcast while on Instagram so I decided to listen. As a straight, married minister this was so refreshing to hear these brothers talk. Thank you brothers for being authentic and sharing your hearts and being honest. Blessings to you all 🙏🏾
Ok David, we need more podcasts . Kvng, I'm learning so much from listening to you and im going help anyone in my family because of you. Thank you so much!
WOW! This was AMAZING! Something FINALLY for folks like me - the nuances that make me! Keep breathing and living in your truth! The freedom (especially around dance) was something I missed SO MUCH prior to finding circuit. However, I'm gonna take your advice and own myself in less free spaces - moving how ever I see fit. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING SO VULNERABLE! Each of you are friends in my head...LOL
This is great man! I love how in-depth conversations are about perpetuating policing masculinity in LGBTQ and hetero spaces. Especially amongst masculine gay black men.
this is such a great podcast man! a thought that came to mind (28:29 timestamp) is the passion that queer men present toward pop culture is the same passion that heterosexual men dispense to pastimes such as sports. we are truly two sides of the same coin. our masculinity is still valid, it’s just in a different shade.
I like the part about him saying as Men "I am the knower , and she's the Thinker" 👏👏👏👍👍, so Spot on!. Should never feel ashamed for being open with them right away.
Code Switching exists bc people aren't allowed to be themselves in all spaces, even in the most important space THEMSELVES. This was a great space in one conversation to talk about it, bc it's the elephant that's in every room we walk into, personally and professionally.
Thoroughly enjoyed this!!! Way more to our community than the negative narratives they constantly try to broadcast. LOVED THIS!!!👏🏽 Keep the episodes coming.
Absolutely brilliant! what a great diverse group of men. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for you all. We need to have more people to learn what’s in our hearts and minds and I salute each of you and I send my love too you all. Thanks again for your views and a needed conversation, this is black excellence at its best IJS!. 🙏🏾
Phenomenal discussion of pure authenticity. Thank you David and all the men for sharing your divine intelligence and healing wisdom, standing in integrity of themselves .
I loved this discussion! I'm 56 and have been under the "masc" label my whole life. The points about ownership of your true self and being visible are spot-on! These talking points are relevant to masculine gay and bi men of other racial and ethnic life experiences, too. Thanks!!!
This was a very healthy and uplifting conversation. I hope y’all continue and bring more conversation like this to the community. It’s definitely needed!
First off love love the fact that y'all are talking about being masculine presenting as a privilege I never heard it talk about this way and it's very refreshing but it was beautiful to discover some of the issues that y'all can have as well cause I related to early on in my journey as a more flamboyant presenting men was always expecting a certain level of masculinity and tone down level of femininity in y'all when at the end of the day as you said at some point we all are feminine someway somehow with our level and variety to it and really sad that to the public eye y'all can seem too loud or proud just because it's not masculine enough for them but deeply love this conversation and the way this podcast coming along❤❤
Coming straight from your IG reel and I knew I recognize you from somewhere and it was Obio podcast and love your vibe there so definitely looking forward how you and your guests address this conversation ✨
Great episode guys, it’s good to see openness with yourself, it’s ok to be vulnerable and masculine, all of us are afraid to be ourselves in the community because of scrutiny, but we must be true to ourselves. Freedom comes with pain, don’t be afraid .
This was EVERYTHING,LOVED It, this is what i've been waiting for, this coversation was LIT, i'm looking forward to the next one, you brothers are The Best.
This conversation is so impactful. The gag is I'm planning a very similar one with some other forward thinking men at the barbershop that I work at! Lol I want to challenge some of the ways we use "masculinity" against ourselves in hopes to highlight how we as homo and heterosexual men have more in common than the world would have us believe. The pursuit of love, freedom, and happiness is real and I think we each stand a better chance of reaching it working together versus against each other. You would think that gay men wouldn't subject themselves to toxic masculinity as the whole institution of queerness rejects so much of what patriarchy and misogyny stands for. However, there are a lot of masculine presenting men who when put on the same level as another queer man (feminine presenting or otherwise (whether it be in the workplace, bedroom, or social arena)) will use their perceived masculinity as leverage to prove that they are somehow more of a "man". Because they can pass, they aquire some type superiority amongst the LGBT community? *sucks teeth* But girl, who cares if you fit in over there? Clearly, that ain't where you wanna be. Yall gave the boys some excellent perspective and advice and I look forward to hearing more healthy discourse like this in the black LGBT community. Love to you all 🌹
When you love you for who you are, someone else will love you for that. Remember that. Be yourself. Be authentic. Love yourself. Everything will be ok. 💋
11/15/2022: What an interesting, thought provoking, and pithy conversation with a panel with five gorgeous Brothas. Being Trans, I understand this is a conversation that also needs to be had with intellect and seriousness. Thank you for sharing! ☺☺ Oh, and I follow you on IG, "Winston!!!" 😂😂😂😂
it gives me the giggles when straight presenting men pretend like they do not have to be restrictive or they could be themselves a 100% is cause babby you do not have pre-existent judgements put on you when you walk in a room as compared to your effeminate counterparts, that is the privilege right there!! you walk in the room ppl then do not have anything negative to say or think about you cause at first glance you are assumed to me straight and cisgender.

I also love the discussion on dismantling the bias and myths on masculinity, especially with Black men. It runs deep beyond sexuality.

it gives me the giggles when straight presenting men pretend like they do not have to be restrictive or they could be themselves a 100% is cause babby you do not have pre-existent judgements put on you when you walk in a room as compared to your effeminate counterparts, that is the privilege right there!! you walk in the room ppl then do not have anything negative to say or think about you cause at first glance you are assumed to me straight and cisgender.
