Amazing Technique... Thanks for Sharing.. What you could do is Use a Nail the thickness equal to the scroll saw blade, and put it in the Guide horizontally at around Half the Tape width.. That way when you turn the Dowel, the cut portion will lock onto the nail, and the nail will guide the rest of the dowel at a set feed distance.. the Initial length might have to be eyeballed, but the rest will come out perfectly true..
cool video. Watching it i was thinking maybe if you use the handle of a vice to spin it, also it will press forward as you spin it. As long as the end is taking off... perhaps? I might give it a try myself. Thanks for the idea.

V blocks will more effectively center the dowel.

I'd interlock a dark wood spiral with a light wood spiral as my pen blank. Glue-up would be problematic.
Excuse my ignorance: are your spiral blades the "all way" blade I have? :) I think we have the same scroll saw btw! :D
As long as the blade is twisted so that it has teeth in all directions.
