Hi Janne, as you know today's Turkish Republic was an empire. And there are still Turkish population living as minority around our neighbours. One of them is Bulgaria. During the time when Bulgaria under communist regime they tried to assimilate Turkish living in Bulgaria by chancing names or closing schools or sending them to concentration camps. This continued during 80's.After talks with Bulgarian goventment In 1989 Turkey opened the border and started to accept immigrants. As far as I know many forced to leave their homes and they arrived without nothing. When communist regime ended in Bulgaria everything went back to normal. Today some went back to their lands or homes and some still living here.

I remember very well that people who came to Turkey told what they went through. No one leaves their native land for a lie! and Bulgaria confiscated all the properties of those Turks. even now they can't claim!! Do you know how many million Bulgarian immigrants came to Turkey? minority!! Those places belonged to the Turks throughout history and Bulgaria was the first country that betrayed the Ottoman Empire. They also persecuted the Turks living there!! Bulgarians, Greeks and Armenians know best how to lie. We have a world history that we proudly commemorate!! Even today Bulgaria is the enemy of the Turks. It doesn't even give a visa for travel!! If you want to see lies, look at the words of your own politicians!!

His Greek competitor, Valerios Leonidis, was also was in Naim Süleymanoglu's funaral. They were not only the competitors but very good friends. I haven't watched it yet but I hope they also placed him to this movie.

Hi Janne, thank you for this video. As a half balkan immigrant half Turkish girl, I watched this video crying. We, the Balkan peoples and Balkan Turks, went through very difficult times and it was not easy for us to migrate to Turkey. But the wish of every Balkan people is to be able to see the lands they came from again. 🙏🏻🇲🇰🇧🇦

I know it's been a while since the video, but I want to give a little information. In the scene where Naim's plane is met with F16 jets, the pilot introduces himself as Eren Bülbül.
The release date of the movie is 2019. In 2017, a child named Eren Bülbül died in an attack by the PKK. The name of the pilot in this scene was added as Eren to honor that boy.

This book was recommended by Atatürk to all students of our nation. İt was also a part of military school's educational literature in those days. After death of Atatürk there were some people, who had brought American Fulbright foundation to our county, stoped printing the book. Because Americans could not tolerate it.
I read it and liked very much. Actually it is very easy to understand why Americans did not want it to be read by free minds.

There are too many Turks in Bulgaria, they tried to assimilate for years, but they could not succeed, thousands of them fled to Turkey. I remember well that period, then President Turgut Özal brought Naim to Turkey and he spent a lot of effort.
He is Turkish tho, who lived in Bulgaria in that time like my family.

In 1984 Bulgarian Communist government passed an executive order to assimilate its turkish minority of 2 and a half mln people by changing their muslim names with Christian Bulgarian ones. At the time Bulgaria was 9 million population out of which 2 and a half million were of Turkish ethnicity. Naim was one of them.
Terrible - how can that even happen. No human rights at that time.
