@@TheFounder101 Heat is one of the most influential movies of all time, I bet you're too young to know how big of a deal it was when it came out, it's had so many copycats since.
Pretty good list. I kind of hate how the term "filmbro" gets tossed around ad nauseam to mean anyone who likes critically adored films when in reality it should just be used for people who are excessively snobby about their taste being superior and shit
Not sure if he’s “film bro” approved but Hitchcock is conspicuously absent from this list. Vertigo regularly rivals Citizen Kane and Psycho is iconic for a reason.
Jaws was perfect when it was made and it can't be criticised for not having knowledge of the future, but hard disagree on it standing the test of time. Shark knowledge at the time was not something scientists looked deeply into and more just taking one look at a shark's anatomy and going "yeah seems pretty dangerous and aggressive", now we know sharks are peaceful, the concept of rogue sharks was a completely wrong guess based on an isolated incident, and Spielberg himself regrets making the movie even saying his biggest fear isn't sharks as a concept but sharks somehow knowing what he did to them (he holds himself responsible for the boom in shark trophy fishing, I don't think he should) I know since I went a bit in-depth it seems like I hate the movie or people who don't know about it's place in shark history but nah, it's okay, just wanted to mention what I know since it's not often you find an opportunity to talk about things like this
Peaceful? 4 people were injured in shark attacks just last week. I agree they’re not the monsters Spielberg envisioned, but they’re still potentially dangerous predators.
@@bobcobb3654 there are only two shark species considered aggressive, shark bites are usually investigatory (they use their mouth to explore the world) that's why the number of bites that end in death is 4-5 per year. Yes they're dangerous wild animals that an untrained person shouldn't be interacting with, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they are peaceful, and they're even friendly if you're trained to interact with them properly
Citizen Kane holds up remarkably well if you get a chance to rewatch it. I watched it for the first time for a film class and thought it was revolutionary for what it was but not too special against the modern movie landscape. But I've seen it twice since then and now I think just think it's a great movie, bar a couple of scenes like the bird and the tantrum.
Not even movies like The Godfather or Goodfellas? But ya, that's a fair take, 2001 A Space Odyssey is a next level masterpiece, not many movies really compare to it

On Kill Bill, I love both but tbh second one just edges it for me. The David Carradine monologue alone is worth the price of admission. I wouldn’t call the Departed a rip off of Infernal Affairs because they actually bought the rights to make a US version of it - which is literally what the Departed is. I love both the original and the Departed equally as they’re different enough.
Most people who bring up Infernal Affairs are looking for a pat on the head for watching a foreign movie. Like Hong Kong movies aren’t also popular with “film bros.”

I'm surprised there are no John Carpenter films on this list. But yeah, "film bro" does sound pretty demeaning. A lot of them are still pretty great or good films when you get past the hype train surrounding them. PS additional points for mentioning Barry Lyndon; very underrated Stanley Kubrick film
Glad I'm not the only one not really connecting with "No Country for Old Men". Coen Brothers in general don't do it for me apart from Barton Fink and even in that film the subject matter of struggles of the creative process does the heavy lifting for me.
I know it’s not your film bro list but how did no Paul Thomas Anderson films (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) or Aranofsky films (Pi, Requiem) not make it on that list?! 😂

IMO it has some of the most deeply fleshed out character writing I’ve ever seen or read. You feel like you just lived a good chunk of the core families life by the end of part 2. It gets better on rewatch. Also I dunno if ur a kid or adult but as I got older I appreciated it more. Couldn’t make it thru part one as a teen personally.
It’s extremely difficult to appreciate the depth of the film without also seeing part two. Michael is Vito’s favorite son, he wants him to succeed away from crime but Michael wants to prove himself as his own man, which is why in part two it is shown that Michael defies Vito by joining the Marines. Eventually it becomes obvious that Michael’ destiny, or curse, is to lead the family. In part two you see this life start to harm Michael.
That's a good point, those movies definitely do demand a lot from the audience, a lot more so than your typical blockbusters. In the case of Interstellar, some of the dialogue is a bit questionable (e.g. "the power of love is the greatest force in the universe" - said by a NASA physicist). It also takes a pretty big leap regarding the black hole scene (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers in case anyone reads this who hasn't seen the movie). The movie also has A LOT of exposition. These are minor nitpicks for me though, I love Interstellar as a whole. As for Inception, I personally don't find it to be dumb, but I've heard people call it that for how it handles dream logic. The main thing I've heard people criticize is Nolan's approach to portraying dreams - saying it was a bit lackluster compared to other movies that dive into that subject (e.g. Mulholland Drive or Paprika). In all fairness, I personally don't agree with this argument, I think Inception is awesome.
