Punk rock influencers are some of most blatantly insecure and shallow people I've ever seen/encountered in my life. They're WAY up there on the cringe list as well.
Back in the 90s The idea that someone would want to become a label or a brand was against everything punk rock stood for.Everyone around me was against consumerism and corporate companies taking over record shops. At least that was what I remember .I cannot take the word punk rock influencer seriously. Especially if they are trying to promote products.Thats why I like ur channel. Im here for the content not to buy a product.....
Just like in the metal world, punk rock influencers are simply uber poseurs. And in the immortal words of Manowar: "Wimps and poseurs, leave the hall!"
erin m comes off as someone who woke up one day and decided to start a career as an internet celeb and thought that being a punk would be cool. a total poseur and antithesis to what punk rock should've been about
Punks who dress plain: "punk styles are for posers, this is a LIFEstyle". Punks who wear 70s/80s punk styles: " posers who just listen don't get that this is a LIFEstyle" Punk in the 21st century has become purist and gatekeepers on all sides.
I do find the "Punk isn't a uniform, they should just dress in black like us" crowd hilarious. Oddly you never hear people who opt for the 'classic' punk look knocking those that don't.
@@yaknow8493 Who's gatekeeping ? If you'd have actually been alive in the mid to late 70s and witnessed the inception of what would become known as punk rock you would understand why I despise postcard punks like Erin. Punk was more or less a DIY culture, it wasn't about spikey hair, ripped jeans and painted leather jackets. The 'uniforms' of the postcard punks came along well after the original punk scenes demise. Do yourself a favour and look into the origins of the UK punk scene.
@@marley67uk77 So because that way of dressing didn’t develop at the inception of the genre people that rock the style aren’t legit? That kinda sounds like textbook gatekeeping actually lol. You’re acting like punk rock history and the fact that it was a DIY movement isn’t extremely well documented and commonly known. This is not exclusive knowledge. Who the fuck cares if people enjoy wearing spikey hair and leather jackets? Giving any kind of a shit about that is corny as hell. Discouraging people from dressing how they want and expressing freely for the sake of gatekeeping a scene from 40 years ago kinda seems like the least punk rock thing you could do. Super goofy.

You know what the sad thing is? I discovered Erin with her interview with Jake Burns from Stiff Little Fingers. You can't get more "real punk" than that. But just because you interview a real punk, doesn't mean you are a real punk.
I've known erin years before she was an influencer and I'll be honest... she's a really nice person and easy on the eyes... unfortunately the influencer thing has made it difficult to be around her and i just saw her last week jogging down hollywood boulevard with her phone out in front recording herself because that's what influencers do...put their whole life online to sell themselves and whatever is sponsoring them that day... it's very selloutish and that's not punk but whatever...punk is dead...
As a punk rocker myself (you could say that I may be stereotypically punk with the hawk, studded jacket, doc marten boots, ect.) We don't claim them and their attention-seeking clout.
I love vapid airbags. At least people who come off that way, because I’m awkward and quiet and they fill in the silences with airbaggery like yin to my yang. I’m talkin bout fruit flies. like your kitty shirt
Punk Rock was a youth movement in the 70s and 80s. Kinda like Hippies and Beatniks before them. Kids today need their own unique movement, instead of living a cartoon version of what was.
Erin Micklow is awesome! I actually know her. We both interview bands and we used to frequently run into each other when I lived in LA. She works really hard on her content and is very passionate about what she does.
I'm kind of in the mind of tolerating a little cringe to draw more people ibto punk. You don't wanna go too far in alienating what punk is al about, but being a little image-based like Eric Micklow seems harmless, and might get someone being like, "She looks cool. I wonder what these patches on her jacket represent. *googles bands" That's partly how it happened for me. I saw punks at a park at a really young age. Thought they looked cool. I was already into metal, alt rock, and grunge early on because of my cousins and siblings. That seed stayed in my mind, and then in my preteens, a friend got me into Green Day. Another owned THPS, and those two things really sent me down the rabbithole of punk.
i've met erin and she's alright, she's interviewed a few bands I know and she's a lovley person, but not the best interviewer her questions are not the greatest. and I've talked with zombie punk, he's chill yet contantly smashed out of his head though or it could be that he was at a show as that is where I met him. we were all pretty drunk, its the uk for fuck sake, being an alcoholic is common enough.
Post-Punk bros, we are so back. Literally no influencer wants to touch us with a 10 foot pole besides the easily identified Joy Division shirt meme. Again more proof Post-Punk> Punk.
I mean, Camden is kind of a big deal punk history-wise. That aside, Erin is always at Rebellion Fest with a huge selfie-camera and a lacky...basically just gets in the way! lol
Erin is very much 'look at me' with everything she does, but there doesn't seem much doubt that she likes punk, and she does interview loads of bands and promote them. Nobody beyond the very biggest bands makes money from punk, so that's not her driver, so it really comes largely down to people hating her look. If she looked ordinary I doubt she would get 10% of the abuse. Zombie punk might have some unpleasant stories following him, but he's been around for years, long before he was on social media.
Erin actually went and interviewed my friends Turtles Jr. from Indonesia. Fuck it she wants to come out to the libertad fest in Indo she would be more than invited. None of you really care about the punk scene happening over here in Asia. Indonesia, Burma even Thailand real punks even us in Vietnam. I've personally never met her but she chases down the bands and interviews them at shows I know from experience never easy. Its not easy trying to make it these days on the internet. She interviewed Sammy from Fang great guy but has a crazy back story. Look it up. That is your punk rock homework for today from JB.
