Andy & Nick, great job.
I was inspired and my eyes opened to the "behind the curtain" approach.
Loved it and well done, my mentors.👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great chat to listen to!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Guys!
That was great. Two guys hanging out talking about their paths of success and what they may done different if they could go back. Thanks for sharing. I miss Nicks ‘new videos on YT. Keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, I've been doing a lot of inlay learning/failing/succeeding largely inspired by Nick's awesome work, so it was great to hear this conversation. Also have a 5x10 Avid, though with ATC and vacuum, if you have the opportunity to add an ATC it's an absolute game changer (obviously stating the obvious... 🙃) I wanted the ability to cut sheets goods so 4x8 minimum, happened upon a used 5x10 which is huge in my shop but gave me space for the ATC rack down the y axis and ~2' left over for hopefully a rotary indexer at some point. All those grand plans and a huge machine where ~90% of the work gets done down in one small corner... 😅
Dude his boards are insane!
Wow! that's awesome.
Geat chat and inspiring
Awesome to hear! Thanks for watching
Is it easier to inlay larger images and boards
Yes
One of the most impressive parts of this video is that Andy can work on his cnc and have a conversation at the same time. 😂
What would be a good base size to start with 😊
Really depends on your budget. But I wouldn't go smaller than a 2x2
What brand would you recommend for a 2x4 or 4x4 CNC? Budget = up to 6k
Either a Shapeoko 5 Pro by Carbide 3D or a Foreman Elite by Onefinity would be a good choice.
If you're comfortable with used, shopbots are great machines, and customer service is amazing even for second owners. I bought my 5'x8' shopbot prs alpha for $9k with no cnc experience. Shopbot replied to my questions within a day to get it set up. I see 2x4 and 4x4 machines in the $3-6k range for sale fairly often.
I agree with @gaiustacitus4242
Thank you for highlighting my comment! I am honored! Question for Andy or Nick: Have you worked with the new V-Carve Inlay Toolpath in Version 12? It seems quite different, and was just curious if either of you have worked with it yet?
Thanks for sharing! I haven't used the vcarve toolpath yet but I've heard good things. Its on my list to try it out. What has been your experience?
@@AndyBirdBuilds My experience personally has been very good, as I developed my method to get the parameters correct with a TBN. Many viewers though, have had issues with it.
I am doing a deep drive into the toolpath, and using TBNs which I hope to get out on my channel soon.
If you use 30/60/90 degree v-bits, it works fine, but as you probably know, most folks doing deeper or intricate inlays like to use TBNs, which are not supported at all by the toolpath.
You have to convert your TBN to a V-Bit in the tool databases, and that can introduce some problems.
Thanks for the response! Looking forward to more of your content!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Holy crap. A 5x10 inlay. That would be awesome. A $20000 inlayed tabletop. Lol
Eventually I want to have a 5X10 machine specifically to be able to do custom front doors for homes. My current machine is only 4X3...
