    Take it from someone who has the same work environment, this was a great video. I understand the frustration with the snap ring as I found my snap on Snap On snap ring pliers were missing and without them it's a bear. Keep up the good work. Especially on your K3500.

    So you torqued the spindle nut to 52 lbs, and backed it off a little. I pulled off the hubs, and the seals seemed okay but the bearings were loose and could slide. I didn't have the spindle socket so just tapped it tight with a flathead. I didn't replace the seals like you did, so would the oil sleas slide on by pushing on it?

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  2 месяца назад

      Hello! Absolutely. If your seal is still good then re installing the seal onto the hub assembly then pushing it back onto the spindle, seating it with maybe a couple taps from the dead blow should get it back in place.

    Quick question man, I replaced the seal on mine not very long ago. I’m not getting any leaks right now but a very loud clicking/ticking noise. When I drove it yesterday and stoped it was so hot around the wheel it was smoking and the center cap was hot. What comes to mind on that?

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  8 месяцев назад +2

      Oh man, that's not good. First thing that comes to mind is there might be too much load on the bearing. You might back the axle nut off and readjust the pre load.

      Was it the bearing going bad?

    Aren’t you suppose to spin the hub as you tighten the nut? Also you didn’t back it off then hand tighten it. You hammered it with the impact didn’t you say that would cause premature wear?

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  19 дней назад

      You can try to spin the hub as you tighten it... but usually that only works if you have another person helping due to the difficulty of tightening the nut (notice i used a ratchet strap at one point to help keep the socket in place). Otherwise you have to do what I did amd tighten then spin to gauge if the seal is seated and that there is enough pre load on it. It should take as much force to get the hub spinning as it does to keep it spinning. Also, not sure we watched the same video, I didn't hammer it on with a impact.. or did you skip around in the video so you didn't see me first use a socket wrench then a torque wrench then used the impact right at the end to align the key hole, using a punch and hammer for the final alignment? You can absolutely over tighten the nut to seal the hub then back off the axle nut then hand tighten the nut again by hand. When you put it back together and drive the truck the hub will pull back out to where the nut is. Not a huge problem but that back and forth on the seal has a small chance of damaging the seal. Small chance and I wouldn't worry about it too much if you go that route. I simply tighten the nut until I got a full seal and got the tolerance I was looking for and also tighten the nut until approximately the same amount of threads were sticking out as before. Best of luck.

    What about oil?? How are the bearings lubricated?

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  2 месяца назад

      2 ways. Bearings are both in an oil bath from the rear diff gear oil as well as I pack them with grease out of an abundance of caution. You don't "need" to pack them with grease because they are in an oil bath, so no worries if you skip that step.

      @@KooshdaakaaGarage Okay yeah, that's what I thought. A couple things with that, when I pulled out the rear axles, they were pretty dirty, if the oil is flowing through there it's sure to get contaminated.. The innermost bearing just seems like it wouldn't get much oil, considering the diff oil has to flow out the differential through the spindle and the outer bearing.

    I gotta pull out the outer bearing race in order to get the outer seal installed first correct?

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  Год назад +1

      Thank you for the question! The outer seal or gasket is the axle gasket so that comes out before you remove the hub assembly. The only other oil seal is the inner seal which comes off before you can gain access to the bearings. I hope I understood your question and answered accordingly 🍻
