    THE DAY CHRIST DIED IS DEPRESSING, REVOLTING AND SAD
    Anonymous reviewer writes:
    This is the most depressing film on Jesus Christ that I already viewed.
    Not only the most depressing, but I force (I don't eat Passion of the Christ of Mel Gibson, it is clear).
    Until today I don't understand which was the intention of the producing of do a film as this, different from all the other films on Christ done already.
    Here in this film Jesus (Chris Sarandon) it is just shown as human man, and no divine, that it is determined until the end in accomplishing his/her mission.
    It is also with physical lines (little accepted by most of the people) like Jesus it was very probably: a brunet man, of dark brown eyes, of rustic appearance, and not of hair blond or brown clear, of delicate face and of blue eyes as most imagines, in short, in this film Jesus is shown as a natural man from Palestine of the first century of ours was and not with European lines, as they were Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus in "Jesus of Nazareth" and of "King of Kings."
    And he was not shown like a solemn Jesus, reverent as it was in the other films, but a more human Jesus totally naked of any divinity.
    The same I say of Last Supper scenes and prayer in the garden of Gethsemani.
    In the scenes of the judgment, of the flagellation, Jesus is treated with such a ferocious hate shown never in other films.
    Jesus is viewed as somebody that has be punished severely and dead the more quickly in a more intense way than in other films.
    I remember of the scene, in that Caiaphas tells Jesus soon at the end of the judgment: "And you don't forget that you are a Jew! "
    It is also of the scenes In that king Herod says for Jesus: "You are not a king of anything!!! Monarch of anybody!!! That more ridiculous king you would be!!!! "
    And all make fun of Jesus.
    Before "Passion of the Christ" of Mel Gibson, this had been the most violent film on the last of Jesus that it had already viewed. In this film Jesus is treated with end hate, contempt and ridiculed in such a cruel and merciless way that he left me very impressed and it finishes completely defeated, treated as the vilest and despicable of all the criminals.
    I didn't like one bit of this film.
    This film is very depressing, revolting and sad...

    This is also a pretty historically accurate biblical movie at it's time. The average Jesus movie at this time had a blonde haired and blue eyed Jesus. He's actually seen as an early Jewish man, not only that but the crucifixion setup is accurate as well as he carries only the crossbeam and is nailed through the wrists...wow...

      Totally agree Moonwalker, I particularly liked when Jesus played handball, OK so its not recorded but yeah, why not a bit of poetic licence. Jews for Jesus for Jews, I say!

      My old Golden Book Press Children's Bible (the one with the tan cover and really gorgeous illustrations) had the blonde, blue-eyed Jesus. And to think...the whole idea of that started because Renaissance artists depicted Him as what they would have imagined as an ideal...a fair-haired, fair-skinned Northern Italian.

      Historically accurate. Awesome.
      And yet this is still so bad it _hurts my brain_ to watch it!
      It's astonishing that this was made on the heels of Franco Zeffirelli's _Jesus of Nazareth_ and that the writers, producers, director, of this _clearly_ spent long hours going over that miniseries and studying it closely, and they still learned *_nothing._*

      Yep, it hurts my brain to watch it, must be the scary music, its disturbing and not really peace and harmony stuff, still it matches the subject, which is often depicted in many ways, but was totally appalling and horrible, please God we dont have to die for our faith, me, I am a devout coward.

      Yes, that is the gospel truth. I cry now more than i did when I was young and invincible, now I am in God's waiting room, I cannot help shed a tear when I think that line from the pop song 'I'll stand by you' . It goes like this: "Nothing you confess, could make me love you less" I have to keep remding myself as well all do that nobody is perfect, the hardest person to forgive is ourselves, we cannot earn salvation, but He loves us unconditinally, its called Amazing Grace. God bless you too!

      Every time you celebrate ''Mass'', you trample under foot the blood that was shed on behalf of sinners.You need to be born again.Turn to Christ and live.He is the bread of life,not a stale wafer and sour glass of wine.Remember,when He said ''It is finished"? At the last supper the Apostles weren't cannibalizing him and drinking his blood. The ''Roman Catholic Jesus'' is part and parcel of a false damnable gospel.Louie,you must accept the Jesus of the Bible apart from works.

      I have no idea, however, although I believe He rose from the grave and ascended into heaven, I like the idea of leaving the viewer to decided for themselves. Nobody is born a Christian, it is the mysterious task of Holy Spirit to work in the heart of everyone - we never, by the Grace of God, lose our freedom of choice, even the angel have a choice, which gave rise to the rebellion and expulsion from Paradise/Heaven. So this film ends, in my view, where it should. That much is proven history, the rest, as I have just mentioned, is for us to accept or reject. What have you chosen Antonio?

    "Look at those upright post,way too high. No ropes, no ladders, how are they gonna elevate the victims up there?"
    Worse, how are they going to keep the victims up there with only nails in the hands and feet? There's neither foot-rest (called "suppedaneum") nor a seat ("sedile") anywhere in sight. The way the Romans would have done it, was to provide a thornlike vertical peg for each victim to sit on.
    PS Pilate's demeanor in the trial is totally unrealistic with his known historic character.

      PfctvsPontivsPilatvs yeah,I wanted to see how they elevated Jesus on the upright but they cut that part out,or maybe there were ropes but we just couldn’t see them on the hill,the nails didn’t go through the palm which a lot of people don’t know,but through the wrists were the two big bones would support the body weight and if the nails were nailed through the palm,it would tear right through and maybe the uprights had two hooks to attach the cross bar.The feet might have been nailed not stacked,but through the ankle,straddling the upright like the romans would actually crucify victims

      I do believe that Pilate did see something about Jesus that was out of the ordinary, and that Pilate did try to set Jesus free.
      Pilate was in a lot of hot water with Caesar Tiberius, especially with Pilate's alleged friendship with Sejanus. Pilate was no weak man, but he had his limits. He wasn't going to lose his job for an innocent man.

      @Louise X most of the time, Pilate would sentence a man to death without the benefit of a trial. Pilate usually crucified first and asked questions later. I agree with you about Telly Savalas's Pilate. His was the best portrayal. In fact Telly Savalas shaved his head bald for the role of Pontius Pilate, and kept it ever since. But the most cruel version of Pilate was played by Hurd Hatfield in King of Kings 1961.

    When pilate said behold the man, Jesus already had the crown of thorns on and was already scourged so Jesus was scourged the second time, before going to the cross.

      +Lee Darin Jr Scourging and Crucifixion were 2 separate punishments. Christ received both because Pilate's intention was to scourge Him and release Him. However when the crowd insisted on the release of Barabas, Pilate had no choice but to send Christ to His death on the cross in addition to being scourged.

      We are all Barabas and Judas combined, only through His forgiveness, which we must ask, are we saved from ourselves. Remember me when you come into your Kingdom, said the thief, but Jesus did not reply, too late mate. Rather: Today I tell you, you will be with me in paradise. Whatever interpretation you put on those words, the fact is that without get a second chance to come down from the cross and live a better life and earn his way to heaven, Jesus realised+ that the thief had recognised who He really way, amidst the blood soaked plucked beard and crown of thorns, here was the King of Glory. Not even a 'sorry' is recorded as coming from the thief. praised God, for we have all sinned and fallen short, but we do not reply upon our good works, we reply upon his forgiveness when we recognise its impossible to buy heaven.

      Shall I delete this conversation !!!!! The reason I uploaded was because its the first Jesus film to impact me since Dennis Potter's outstanding play, never mind the cheap sets and out of proportion crosses, what always makes a film is the script and of course the acting, it has an amazing quality, a compassion I am drawn to, and you?

    • @matthewakian2
      @matthewakian2 7 лет назад

      I remember seeing the Dennis Potter play on a rerun on BBC 2, that was a really powerful drama that packed a punch (it was on RUclips before taken off for copyright reasons). This film I remember seeing once on TV (must have been about 8-9), really impacted me because it was very different from others in the genre at the time (i.e. Jesus of Nazareth). The three things that stuck in my mind was that Jesus was introduced playing a game (much like football), Jesus' blurry point of view when he was being tortured by the soldiers, and the last scene of Jesus being nailed and then cut to the cross posts. A very powerful film indeed.

      Actually many, if not most Muslims do credit Jesus with a messiah status, which was for many Jews living in ancient Palestine synonymous with king. Moreover, around Jesus´ time, as evidenced by the Dead Sea scrolls, there was another interpretation of Messiah, or in some sense an additional one: the Messiah ben Yosef, who was more of a priestly figure; king and priest were to rule side by side in the New Israel, or the Olam Ha Ba, the age to come. This obviously never came to pass, at least not ¨within a generation" as it was supposed to have according to the earliest Gospel- Mark´s, as well as the DS scrolls. In the end they kept pushing back the date of Jesus' return, and the Jews who held onto the belief in Jesus´messiah identity, branched off and became the first Christians.

      He told them this parable. "Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn't leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it? When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing. When he comes home, he calls together his friends, his family and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance."

      16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the courtyard of the palace known as the governor’s headquarters,[a] and they called together the whole company of soldiers.[b] 17 They dressed him up in a purple robe and twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on him. 18 They saluted him, “Hey! King of the Jews!” 19 Again and again, they struck his head with a stick. They spit on him and knelt before him to honor him. 20 When they finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

    Vision of Jesus Glorified!
    Revelation 1 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,
    11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last; and what you see, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea and.
    12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
    13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed to the foot of a long linen, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
    14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as snow, and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
    15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
    16 And he had in his right hand seven stars; From his mouth comes a sharp sword with two edges; and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
    17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead; And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last;
    18 And he that liveth, and was dead, and behold I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death.
    19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and they are, and what should happen in the future;

    Yes that is the end...missing is a scene where caiphas and pilate speak of each of them got what they wanted. But yes this the end of this garbage movie...Chris Sarandon is the ugliest Christ on screen and his acting so horrible he looks almost like a serial killer. The movie omits the resurrection leaving this gospel story as defeat...i own all the movies of Christ and since always this has been rubbish to me.only good things are the sets left by Franco Zeffirelli from Jesus of Nazareth. I also cannot believe the director James Cellan Jones literally copied Franco Zeffirelli's filming locations to such extent that it should have viewed as plagiarism and copyrighted. All of Zeffirelli's costumes and sets and the shots themselves. The whole use of the Ribat Monastir for all the scenes of Pilate, the judgement when Pilate offers the crowd the choice of Barrabás and Sarandons portrayal of Jesus was filmed on the right side of the Monastir since the center set had been demolished. The flogging in the courtyard also mimicking Zeffirelli. Fnally the way of the cross which was filmed at Sousse Kadash 24 miles from the Ribat Monastir in the street of Medina. Could the director not use another street. No he used the same street as Zeffirelli and the exterior location where the posts were grounded also same location. Could he not at least reverse the shots? And Chris Sarandons words regarding how he played the part were quote in an article found in the internet "I hope people realise Christ was a man who set out to fulfill the prophecies, that is was not Divinely ordained or controlled" Now that is such bollucks. That goes against what the Bible says that Jesus suffering and resurrection was a Divine plan before creation itself. Clearly the producers decided to strip Jesus of his divinity and replace it with a stern character who offers no warmth and no hope. That divinity is so profound In Jesus of Nazareth and is the reason the film stands the test if time. Also in Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ even during all the torture Jesus feels Divine. He is in control and is the God Man paying the price for our sins and allowing this to happen for this was His reason for becoming flesh. So bad was this film Day Christ Died that the author of the book of same name Jim Bishop demanded his name removed for the title calling the film quote " Cheap Revisionist history and completely that ignores Christ divinity." I have the complete uncut version of this though if you want it. Many small scenes are cut not just the ending.

      I must say in defense of this film, that this is the only film that gets the illegal night trial of Jesus right. Which took place at the house of Caiaphas, not at the Hall of Hewn Stone like in all the other Biblical epics. If you're going to do a movie about the illegal trial of Jesus, you'd have to understand that there were preliminaries first Jesus was taken before Annas. Annas had his own house so Jesus would have been taken there first. Then to Caiaphas's home where only a small delegation of the Sanhedrin would have met. These would have been mainly Caiaphas's and Annas's lackeys. It was during the illegal night trial that the Jewish Authorities broke at least 18 of their laws to get Jesus crucified. When morning came and Jesus appeared before the entire Sanhedrin, this is when Jesus is brought to the Hall of Hewn Stone so Caiaphas and Annas can claim some form of legality to the proceedings. From there he was taken to Pilate who could have been staying at the Fortress of Antonia, or at Herod's Palace. Herod's Palace being the more possible location for the trial of Jesus before the Roman Procurator.

    Proof Jesus is not god
    ☆- My father is greater than I [John 14:28]
    ☆My father is greater than all [John 10:29]
    ☆I can of my own self do nothing:as I hear,I judge,and my judgement is just;because I seek not my own will,but will of my father hath send me. [John 5:30]
    ☆Jesus answered them and said,"My doctrine is not mine but his who send me" [John 7:16]
    ☆He who doesnot love me doesnot keep my words;and the word which u hear are not mine but the father's who send me. [John 14:24]
    ☆For i have not spoken on my own authority ; but father who send me gave me a command what should i say and what i should speak. [John 12:49]
    ☆And the father himself , which hath send me, hath borne witness of me .Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. [John 5:37]
    ☆"Their worship of me is empty since they teach instructionsvthat are human rules" [Mathew 15:9]
    ☆While they were still talking about this,Jesus stood among them and said "Peace be with you".They were startled and frightened thinking that they saw a ghost.He said to them"Why are u troubled and why do doubts rise in ur mind?".
    "Look at my hands and at my feet. It's I myself! Touch me and see me; a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see I have!"[Gospel of Luke 24:36-39]
    (In this above verse it is clearly stated that holy spirit and son cannot be the same.)
    ☆So Jesus said,"I am only with u a little while longer, and then I am going to the one who send me."[John 7:33]
    ●Proof of Muhammad's(SAW) arrival●
    ☆Truly,truly,I tell u, whoever beilives in me will also do the work that I am doing.He will do even greater things than these because I am going to my father. [John 14:12]
    ●How many first burns of God????●
    ☆Jacob is God first born son.[Exodus 4:22]
    ☆Ephraim is God first born son.[Jeremiah 31:9]

      Thank you for a very challenging list, you are an excellent Bible student, and you are living up to your name, please continue your search for truth and be blessed. Aliyan is an indirect Quranic name for boys that means “one who climbs upwards”, “one who ascends”, figuratively meaning “high”, “supreme”, “exalted”, “great”. Aliyan is an ancient Arabic name used since before Islam. It is derived from the AIN-L-A root which is also the root for the common name Ali. Zahid is an Arabic name for boys that means “ascetic”, “devoted to God”.

      Jesus isn't God the Father, but he's God the Son, but you make a strong argument. Good job!

      Just discovered amazing facts about Jesus Christ - he is the most mentioned person in the Quran by reference; 25 times by the name Isa, third-person 48 times, first-person 35 times, and the rest as titles and attributes.Within the 114 chapters and 6236 verses in Quran, the name of Prophet Mohammed can only be found in 4 places (Ch. 3:144, Ch. 33:40, Ch. 47:2, Ch. 48:2) Why is this?
      In Chapter 3, verses 45-55, the Quran goes into detail about Jesus. It refers to him in the following names: word of god (Kalimatullaah), spirit of god (Ruh-Allah), Jesus Christ (al-MaseeHu `Eesa). These names hold incredible power, meaning and symbolism.
      The Quran goes on to highlight the many miracles of Jesus, many of which Christians are very familiar with. It details that He created a live bird with mud, cured a man born blind, cured a man with leprosy, how He spoke when He was 2 days old, and how He gave life to the dead. It even documents how Jesus went to heaven, that He is alive and will come again.
      Quran makes no mention that Mohammed is alive, does not mention that he will come back. He is not documented performing miracles and he is not referred to in any special names.

      The prophet whose name is mentioned most in the Koran is Moses. Jesus, the son of Mary, is mentioned numerous times in the Quran. He is thus one of the most mentioned people in the Quran by reference; 25 times by the name Isa, third-person 48 times, first-person 35 times, and the rest as titles and attributes.
      And the Islamic version of the Jesus story, it turns out, tracks quite closely to the one that Christians know. The Quran has a whole chapter about Mary, who is the only woman mentioned by name in the holy book.In one scene after the birth of her child, Mary is confronted by holy men accusing her of being impure. That is when baby Jesus speaks up in his mother’s defence, performing one of a couple of miracles that never show up in the New Testament version of the Jesus story.
      According to the Quran, Muhammad is the last in a chain of prophets sent by Allah (33:40).
      The name "Muhammad" is mentioned only four times in the Quran, and the name "Ahmad" (another variant of the name of Muhammad) is mentioned one time. He is not mentioned in the Hebrew or Christian Bibles because he was yet to be born.

      Lets leave it all to imagination, best version I love is Ben Hur, where you only see Him in the distance or just His hands, wonderful thinking about how Jesus poured Judah Ben Hur a drink of water when he was in chains and dying of thirst - thats exactly why I love Jesus, the tears and hurt and pain we suffer, He has been there done that and awaits us to join Him. If you know of a better religion a better faith, where us sinners are saved by grace, a free gift, which we cannot earn, but are give it free of charge, like a father looks after his children, please let us all know. What father would charge his children, what father would make his children earn their right to call him father?
