We recently returned to Spruce Pine and spoke with officials and the Mayor as per our most recent video. Right now (due to a terrific response), they are more in need of monetary donations than anything, and physical donations will need to be scheduled to make sure they are accepted. Because communication is so disrupted, no one knows the answers. It's not withheld, it's just unknown. As far as the number of dead, that's been reported as well as they can, to the state. As of 3 days ago, the number of dead in NC was 90. Again, until they actually get to some of these places, it's impossible to know who's missing because they evacuated, or if they were lost. Some might be with family or friends, but the neighbors don't know that. There's a difference between 'confirmed' and reported.
I be.ieve the official dead count occurs only when they have an identified body; not to be confused with the total number of bodies of which some are not identified. The truth is however that there will be missing people who are never found dead or alive. This time it seems as if they have not set a date to end the recovery efforts. Rather they are going to continue looking, finding addresses, knocking on doors until someone answers, checking on and u der the bridges, chec,ing the abandoned vehicles, and all the other places a body might wash up.

@@vivianjenkins7706 i just had a reply to a comment i made from someone living in the affected area although they were reasonably spared. They say that there is a spread sheet that is very long of missing people and that it still exists.

Thats the park they just finished updating after years of trying to get money to do. I take my kids there... now it's gone. Riverside in SP.
We went back up and talked to the Mayor on this in our latest video. Sadly he doesn't have any sort of estimate for when the park may be restored.
