    Poor kid, i can't imagine the pain she was going through. And i have been sick to death of people saying that maggots don't eat healthy tissues. Yes, they do and this doctor clearly shows that, i would see this in fly strike in sheep they would eat a sheep alive and eat healthy tissues. Great job doctor.

      I think why people are saying they don’t eat the healthy tissue is because it’s an actual procedure that exists for debridement of dead/diseased tissue and in that environment, the maggots aren’t afforded the opportunity of sticking around long enough to start attacking the healthy tissue because the doctor would have removed the maggots as soon as they finished with the diseased tissue.
      This scenario is completely different and obviously not nearly as sterile as the procedure I just mentioned is. I wish people would seek further clarification about things they don’t know a lot about instead of stating something they ‘heard’ as the absolute and ONLY truth

      @@thelmareeve3407 maggot infestation can happen incredibly quickly. Decades ago forensic scientists discovered the direct correlation between temperature and rate of development of the larvae. Sometimes in the right conditions maggots can reach this stage of growth within hours. Right temperature. Moist conditions. Good food source. It’s entirely possible that this has occurred (taking damage into account) a 48-36 hour period. Maggots themselves can certainly reach that size with 6 hours.

    By the looks of the debris being removed from the child`s nose early on in the video (crusted pus), the larval parasite was attracted by a purulent inflammation of the mucoid membrane. Given that the footage was most likely shot in India, the culprit of the myiatic infestation was in all probability one of the two most malignant larval parasites that exist: *Chrysomya Bezziana* , also known as the Old World screwworm fly. Together with its western counterpart, the New World screwworm fly aka *Cochliomyia Hominivorax* , Chrysomya Bezziana is, at least in the southern Asian parts of its range, a scourge of humans, pets and livestock alike and poses a severe public health issue in an area encompassing India, Indochina and Indonesia, as does its New World counterpart in tropical South America (Brazil, Colombia etc.) as well as in parts of the Carribean whereas it was permanently eradicated from the North American and Meso-American parts of its former range by means of the so-called "sterile male insect technique" in a campaign that lasted from the mid-1950s to the early `80s.

      Fascinating! He did mention it was green. And from a quick Google this does appear to be a green (or blue-ish green depending on your colour perception) fly, so odds are you're absolutely correct! The larva seem similar too, but then one maggot looks much like another to me!

      @mohamedmadnia1907 I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing it's because, at least here in America, the rules about patient privacy mean that very, very few doctors film *anything* regardless of what race the patient is, and, most of the cases involving some kind of "infestation" (like maggots or botflies, etc) happen in tropical or subtropical areas, which are *generally* populated with black and brown people

    This is mind blowing stuff. That a CHILD or any person in this day and age can be afflicted with such a horrific disease is incredibly sad. I p until about 5 years ago I had never even heard of such a thing as this. I'd say 99.99 % of the people in my country are ignorant of it as well.

      You’ve really never heard of something like this happening?
      There’s children and homeless people who are injured and don’t have access to medical care.
      There’s an infection and flies lay eggs and then the babies hatch 🐣

    • @RN4Veterans
      @RN4Veterans Год назад +2

      And the homeless and without any income get totally free healthcare in the USA. Just need application by sel or healthcare facility s.w.
      Whereas, it's the people who are struggling to make their paycheck stretch to pay their bills that can't afford healthcare. It's risen in costs so high here in the states that the citizens sometimes choose to forgo care.

    • @kristymay9435

    Doctor, I absolutely enjoy watching and learning from your videos. I've always wanted to go into nursing but God made my path to be a caregiver to my chronicly sick husband of 27yrs who sadly passed away a few years ago at age 47. 😢 Between caring for his multiple amputations, trachea, g-tube, PICC lines, dialysis, diabetes , insulin, etc Ive learned a lot of medical knowledge without getting to study or go to school. In America, the nurses or Dr usually shows the patients family/ caregivers how to take care of their treatments and medical needs. They did to me. I also cared for my 85yr old mother during the same time as my dying husband plus 2 kids, a house, business and 4 dogs 😅 Ty for making such educational videos and explaining in simple terms for lay people. I truly pray this young child was able to recover without serious detriment to their health. ❤

    Absolutely unbelievable surgery to help that little girl! I can't even imagine what she must have been going through to have that many maggots inside her nasal cavity - it must have been very frightening for her. You have done an incredible surgery to help her and save her from being eaten from the inside out. Is there a follow-up video to show how she is doing now. That would be wonderful to see - even if it was for a few minutes. Otherwise the viewers will wonder what happened - did she fully recover etc. It would be a good idea for all your videos because you obviously have follow up appointments. Amazing video and surgery and also the commentary really helped 👍xx
