In HK, it doesn’t matter if your business is doing well bc the increasing rent will always get you in the end. Sometimes, the more money you make, the more you are at risk of getting your rent increased.
Hope I get a chance to visit their 2nd location in the near future. Would be an honor to have a Happy Cake after understanding their business is 45 years strong in the making. ✨️✨️✨️
Wow, they don't F around when it comes to closing. Announcement one day, closure the next. Talk about efficiency. So sad to see small businesses like this one close after so many years.
1:18 Holy donuts! Those fluffs with perfect sugar powder. Dayum! Such a shame they are closing down. More and more trademark locations of HK disappearing day by day. And here I am still dreaming to have a visit one day. One day...
We buy from the cake shop when I was young I was living 118 Queens road until my family move to England I still go there when I go back to visit most shops in Hong Kong not many stay In business for 45 years
I still don't get it, looks like their shop are loved by the HK people and they come there often.. why close down just because of failing a lease? i don't get the logic, they can just move somewhere nearby?, i understand if they do not have customers.. but looks like they do, so closing down seems weird, but again it's just my assumption.
It’s so sad, it’s becouse the rent is so cost 💲, many beautiful and antiques places restaurants, coffee shops, tea shops, candy stores, and shoe stores have been closed becouse the building’s owner want to sell, all this places get lost, like our cinema, was almost 125 year and close, was so beautiful it’s so sad 😞
The subtitle in the video stated they couldn't come to a new rental agreement, meaning the renter raised the price for lease and bakery owner can't afford that steep increase.
The reason for its closure is not money. But lack of heirs. I know of a similar shop serving savory food. They make millions, but had to close down because the daughter of the founder, which herself is 70... is childless. Chinese people after 1980 barely have any children, if at all. Its a bleak situation.
@@StopBaizuo I think its because of the rent. They couldnt reach an agreement so they left. The property owners probably increased the rental price and it was too big for the business to pay
Rent expenses sometimes a culprit because that is your major overhead this time where prices is beyond reach of middle class sad to see many shops folded due to covid-19 havoc
Sad thing about a business like this, the owner wanted more money for rent they refused. New generation of kids Mann no sympathy for old businesses like this 45 years and can’t agree on rent like come on

Inflation and high rent are destroying small businesses in Hong Kong. Thank you FED for printing unlimited greenbacks in order to destroy other countries' economies.

Well you do know that Hong Kong was a British colony and that was also the time when it started to develop, that's why HK style is usually a mix of Western plus Chinese
in hong kong, gradually everyrhing is going to close down. no bussiness, no jobs, no tourists, and hong kong is going back to the old time. it needs to redefines and rebrands what kind of hong kong is relevant in the 21 century and onward. hong kong is running out of money, time, and ideas what defines hong kong in the past. it is time to move on!
First, thank the protesters and rioters. Even before pandemic, people are worried going there with all the rioters. Shutting down airport? Really? Now their own people feel the result, plus the pandemic, enjoy the high prices until they shut down
I was there, passed by and wondered hmmm ...what's going on? Usually ppl congregate to watch angry ppl shouting as if it's some kind of spectacle of entertainment. I presume this place will just become an overpriced takeaway chain like Starbucks. I wouldn't mind if it becomes a small Genki Sushi, quite partial to that😊
More lockdowns and totalitarianism, I'm sure it will help to business. But apparently some people are happy because of that if they added such a "joyful" music.
Such a nostalgic business to be missed by many.

True. A lot of greedy landlords. Most shake legs and collect their rentals without mercy. 🙄
I always get sad when I hear about these old time places closing.

They have another shop
becs of the rental didn't want to agree on the price. The rental owner sure would lost big client like this, that can be sure last long time 😂
Like many things in life, you really appreciate it when it is gone forever.
Like Blockbuster video; I miss it everyday
As someone who's only just heard about it, I'd appreciate it more if it was here.

Did you notice that the donuts are alive? Theyre so fluffy and chewy i bet
@@cleangoblin2021 That would answer how they are so seducing.
Hong Kong is too expensive for any business to survive
Hong Kongers could help the shop by online petition for the lot owner to continue renewing the rental contract for this nostalgic 45yr old bakery shop
Everything looks so yummy and fresh
Sad time in Hong Kong..it always maked great food, going to miss it

Let me guess rental increase??
I was thinking the same, rental..
definitely, with that long queue
The subtitle in the video stated they couldn't come to a new rental agreement, meaning the renter raised the price for lease and bakery owner can't afford that steep increase.
I saw it’s closing on Facebook so sad
It's just wan cai shop shutdown, the happy cake itself still running only in another location so it's not totally shutdown but more like moving
Thanks! Now im hungry hahaha
