- In this video, I discuss why the Mercedes M120 v12 engine is a favourite among enthusiasts. The M120 was featured in the R129 SL600 and the W140 S600. I start by going over some specs on the M120, then go into more detail on the M297 from AMG and the engines used by Pagani.

Fun fact: The M120 has the least number of warranty claims of any other AMG engine. Though that could also be due to the lower production volume.
Do you think they had less Warranty than the E60 M119 engine?
Correct, but that’s why all statistics are normalized. Especially in the auto industry. You would take your total claims divide it by engines produced and multiply it by 1000. This would give you a number of claims per 1000 vehicles. This way you would be able to take build volumes out of the equation.
V12 engines are divine craft ever built 💯
The AMG version always felt like a cloak-and-dagger engine. I've worked in a Merc dealership and have never seen one.
Still, the regular M120 is a beautifully smooth engine.
Great video as always.
Great video. All the MB V12's sound amazing on start up.
yes can't wait to watch this in its entirety! M120 is a complete legend, one of those overbuilt beasts (like the 2JZ) that only got phased out because of emissions
All mafia guys in 90s Russia drove w140 (called Kaban which means boar) or 7-series (called Bumer). Those who has s600 were the most respected and feared mafia bosses.
With out doubt, one of the best engines of all time! Something I would love on an engine stand in my workshop, as I don’t have sufficient funds for a Zonda at this point
Do you mean ‘without a doubt’ ???
@@bussterdouglas yes, many thanks
love the start up sound of this V12 Merc, put a Sasaki-san exhaust on it, they sound like a 1990's F1 car.
On a slightly different note I’ve just don’t my supercharger oil (m113k) following your guide. Fantastic advice thank you 👌
You forgot an honorable mention (at least for me). The infamous Chrysler ME-412
That car was absolutely amazing
6:25 sheesh talk about waking up the neighbors 😅 that sound though 😎😎😎
Wow I am very happy to know that the Mercedes v12 is one if the best engine in the world, always love them in the Zonda
Cool video, cool engine
Dream engine
Masterpiece
Bro your amazing with your informative videos thanks you thank you 🙏🏻 but one small correction if I may the biodegradable wires were done away with starting from 1995 not 1996 so it only effects the 94 and below model year car just to clarify
Awesome video bud, next season we gotta get together and go for a cruise. I could take out the old man’s gt500 or my motorbike, get all the boys together too.
Kyle
Hi bro please make a video on buying guide for Mercedes Benz w140
I have a Mercedes Benz 1997 S600 COUPE and i love it very much and its very reliable i also have two 1993 600SEC but i need the wire harness for one wound anyone know where to get that from.
What year is the black s600 shown throughout the video?
1993
Mercedes Benz is the best!
Not anymore
yep... came here to say _was_ the best
That small oil leak is 6k to fix
👍
These V12 cars are already in the 20k-100k price range... In 10 years they will start at 100k
Pagani Huayra R has engine which based on M120 engine block 👆
Also the Zonda!
@@lucaswelby546 Zonda has M120 engine, but Huayra’s engine based on it
Didn't Benz produce many V12 aircraft engines in the 20s, 30s and 40s?
The M137 was less powerful but it was much lighter, making the V12 S class faster and more economical overall (which is what matters in the real world). Also, other than the badly designed coil packs which failed quickly (theres a fix for these now), the engine is more reliable than the M120. It doesn't leak oil as much, it doesn't have failing wiring harnesses and throttle actuators, and it is much easier to work on.
I would do... I would do literally anything for one of these engines. I would compromise any ethic of my character for one of these.
😂😂 someone rich in the comments might just take you up on that
🤣🤣🤣 i feel you man
Almost the pinnacle of automotive engineering. Barring the Porsche 911 turbo S. Can you guess what they have in common? Easy; German engineering at its finest.
And Mercedes w124 500E 😃
One of the best FOR WHAT?))
Reliability, smoothness and performance?
Mercedes built v12 engines way before the M120! So careful with your unresearched statements.
Which car was that in? I’m not counting aircraft engines.
