The iPhone isn't a phone. It does what it's supposed to. Not everyone needs extreme levels of customization and for some Android can be a bit too overwhelming. We need to stop shaming people for what phone they purchase. I, myself have the Note 5, as that is what I prefer, but I also don't make fun of my family for using an iPhone, it's just what they prefer.
iPhone 7 Plus Screen Protector + Full Body , Skinomi® TechSkin Fu... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01J68036W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_udp_api_dfN7xb73PZSHRVe I prefer glass screen protectors for the front, but the back & side of my iPhone 7 jet black has this on it to protect against scraches inside a case or if u don't want a case on....👊
Buying a case for the glossy phone doesn't make sense, Why did you buy a beautiful glossy phone in the first place if you will just hide it in that ugly case.
I almost went with the jet black iPhone 7 plus but with all the extra wait time, I decided to go with the new matte black iPhone 7 plus. Definitely have to say I made a good choice. The antenna bands are just as hidden and it doesn't scratch nearly as bad.
I remember the lg flex having a special coating that would make scratches disappear. why the heck did apple release the jet black model knowing it would scratch so easily I don't know. standards are slipping
to most apple buyers 900 dollars is not a lot of money so why would they not replace it every year,,its only 900 dollars. apple knows this is only a little amount of money to there customers,,so it is all good ,,new iPhone life is just another day
I actually like the way iPhones looks when they have the wear & tear. I'm going to purchase the jet black and use it w/o a case. I think the scratches give it a personality. It's my phone.
It was obviously designed for Samsung. You can't call that coincidence. This is their first ever flagship to have that painted gloss effect. Remember Galaxy sales are on the rise.
I like the graphics and format for videos like this one. I hope the other Cnet videos also look like this, and that the thumbnails have the same graphics as well.
what bragging rights do you get when you get the gloss one? " Oh my phone is so nice, just don't mind i have to keep it in this case for all of time... or at least when the next phone comes out."
Pretty sure Slickwraps sells a clear vinyl skin for the iPhone 7 (They sell it for other phones so they probably do for this one) that will protect your phone if you have your heart set on Jet Black.
Why do people not put an invisbleshield on the rear? I do this for literally every device and it keeps it in new condition while maintaining the stock design.
I don't think condone [approve or sanction (something)] means what you think it means. Perhaps you meant condemn [express complete disapproval of, or alternately, sentence (someone) to a particular punishment, especially death]?
If you’re concerned about scratches on your phone and it’s really bothering you, I think that’s more of a concern than the scratches itself. You’re using a phone for its functionality and putting a 10cm casing on it defeats the purpose of getting a gloss black phone in the first place. Truth be told, nobody is going to pick up your phone, inspect it under the light and tell you that the scratches are horrible LOL
The gloss black is for the occasions one would like to wear a Rolex to a party. Both will impress but, afterward, one should put each back in a safe drawer to avoid damages. Thus, the appeal. No one who buys it thinks about the fragility or marks on the (watch face or band) back - it's all about status. I have an iPhone 6S Plus in a case. If I wanted the gloss black, the last thing I'd want is a case - otherwise ... why? I mean, other than what I mentioned above ...
Buying a jet black model and using a back cover doesn't make sense. On the other hand leaving it exposed would most likely damage the surface. It's a tough choice to make.
Just take your jet black iPhone to your auto detailer for a polish... lol This color/finish was a bad idea. Matte black for sure gets the 👍 Nice video CNET!
I was so extremely close to ordering the jet black but i know that everytime it gets a new scratch im just gonna be mad wondering how the hell did it get it....matte black is still beautiful and will stay beautiful
I don't get why they didn't do the jet black like they did on the old iPhone 3gs, that didn't have the same level of scratch issues. Or why not just have a ceramic back with the black in it
This is why I think worrying about the color of your phone is stupid. Most ppl are just going to put a case on it anyway and cover up the color. I tried a clear case on my iPhone, but it just showed dirt and fingerprints.
So it appears the only thing being affected is the shine, I wonder if you used aluminum polish if you could restore the shine and buff out scratches, much like you can with shining shoes. I am still going to use my jet black phone without a case. If anything ill apply liquid armor on it just to increase scratch resistance.
It all depends on what you prefer, both are great phones! I prefer Android, but you kind of choose the build quality, the OS and how they handle things like notifications, file handling and so on.
***** for how much you pay for some of the models they should all have 5 star (or high iihs) ratings. But believe it or not, not all models have the best scores. Before you defend them remember they compete against tesla, the car who broke the tests so they had to improve their testing equipment to see how much pressure it'd take to bend the roof frame of the car.
Good points but I'm sure there are much nicer cases to put on the phone regardless of colour . That case even on a silver phone would look pretty bad 😂 A matte black vs Jet Black would also have been a much better comparison. The scratches on both will be much more visible than on the silver back.
Downgrade based on what? Scratch-resistance? That's like saying a bigger diamond on your ring is a downgrade because it's easier to damage, or that a Ferrari is worse than a Camry because it has less storage capacity lmao
Spaceman24 getting scratched up and smudged up easily. The only good thing is it grips well in your hand but using it without a case is suicidal. What's really the point?
fightnight14 That's why I gave the examples, to illustrate that some people feel the "art"/exclusivity/aesthetics are worth sacrificing a bit of durability. The Jet Black does not compromise the durability of the screen or main functional parts of the phone, so it's not too far fetched. Regardless, it probably won't be my top choice
Yeah, when I first heard about it I thought the same. I gave my old 3GS to a neighbor 2 years ago, she still uses it - I'll have to check to see how it's getting on in regard to scratches.
It similar but a stronger and thicker material. The 3GS was more plastic, this one is mixed, it has that coating and underneath its aluminum, 3GS wasn't.
there will always be a scratch and easily brakes on any glossy phone, I mean what about the 4 and 4s and all android phones with glass in the back. I fell your pain jet black mates.
NA Technically I think that's still glossy paint. It's glossy paint over the porous aluminum. Like how do you anodize aluminum? Paint goes to the small pores. Ok let's call it glossy dye.
So people would buy the Jet Black iPhone to put at cover on it? That's pretty sad, plus doest dust get into the cover and it will eventually scratch the phone all long the sides? I've never put a cover on my phones.

FINALLY A REALISTIC SCRATCH TEST WITHOUT KNIVES
I agree, the table test seemed odd at first, but it should really be the standard.

not good guys, not good
Just got the iPhone 7 is definitely helping me to lose weight, naw i have no money to eat for 2 months
lol
And a shit phone to go with it. that sucks mate

looooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
***** id make fun of your family for using a iphone. Anyone who's that sucked into marketing is a worry
That's one of the ugliest cases I've seen
the high gloss look is new to apple!!?? the iPhone 3g and 3gs???
That was plastic. This is the first time they have polished aluminum
Also the 5th Gen iPod nano was a polished aluminium finish :)
Oh well. Goin with the aluminum then, as I always have keys, loose change and a wad of sandpaper in my pockets.
Good choice ;)
The jet black is aluminum...
Its polished with a high gloss finish that is more prone to scratches.....

it definitely make sense to apple tho......
Why would it? You'll be covering that beautiful iphone 7 with ugly case.
Well apple state it on their website jet black is a beatutiful black coating if you want jet black you should wear a case to make sense to them lol
Did apple say you should put the ip7 in a case?
they say jet black you need but other colour no
iphone 7 jetblack like ipod touch gen 1-2-3-4
And the iPhone 3G and 3GS
Those had a metal back ( not aluminium)
its true

It's completely different material that's why
while true i believe the iphone is aluminum while that lg flex is some weird coating on plastic that bonds. Something of that sort.
to make you guys buy a case from Apple and other accessories from their Beats Audio products. they are trying to milk as much money as possible
I actually like the way iPhones looks when they have the wear & tear. I'm going to purchase the jet black and use it w/o a case. I think the scratches give it a personality. It's my phone.
The desk scratch looks kinda cool actually. Its like having a vintage Fender Strat
this phone is gonna age really fast and shows its true metallic character
Apple made the Jet Black version to compete with Samsung. That shiny gloss factor has been on Samsung phones the last two years. Pay attention.
Sorry, but it wasn't to compete with Samsung. Designer Ivy was always a fan of sheen and shine, Apple finally decided to go with his cosmetic request.
Sure they did.
It was obviously designed for Samsung. You can't call that coincidence. This is their first ever flagship to have that painted gloss effect. Remember Galaxy sales are on the rise.
The shine gloss factor was on the iPhone 3 about 9 years ago
That was plastic. This is the first glossified metal in a flagship.
I like the graphics and format for videos like this one. I hope the other Cnet videos also look like this, and that the thumbnails have the same graphics as well.
I ordered a jet black, but it would ship in 2-3 weeks. Yesterday I picked up the matte black in store, kinda happy it worked out this way
thinking about it right now, I think I will kind of enjoy to treat it like a fine jewelery.. it's just too beautiful
reminds me of when they used to use the chrome on the backs of iPods
what bragging rights do you get when you get the gloss one? " Oh my phone is so nice, just don't mind i have to keep it in this case for all of time... or at least when the next phone comes out."
Finally a i7 jet black scratch test
Putting it in a case will not save it and will have the same scratches from dust/lint/dirt inside the case.
The Jet Black Looks So Good Though.
A Jet black iPhone ruined. There are children in Africa that could have eaten that iPhone.
Glad I got a matte black iPhone 7.
On a separate note, I just got a clear case to put on it, so it's protected, but you can still see the phone.
Pretty sure Slickwraps sells a clear vinyl skin for the iPhone 7 (They sell it for other phones so they probably do for this one) that will protect your phone if you have your heart set on Jet Black.
Holy Shit! I love the jet black colour but it got scratched so much just by rubbing it on a table.
Why do people not put an invisbleshield on the rear? I do this for literally every device and it keeps it in new condition while maintaining the stock design.
OR buy a Zagg full body protector and have the shine and the protection.
Zagg protectors are military grade protection and scratch resistant
Aaaand your iPhone becomes the size of a brick
The size of a brick??? It's as thin as a screen protector. What you talking about?
Make a video trying to polish the iphone
the high gloss is new? it's literally a bigger iPhone 3gs
So not only do they make such a big deal about a new color, but now that color scratches up?! So what's the point?
Yes i will scratch my phone everyday with sandpaper
1 Sand particle in your pocket and it done.
My desk is covered in diamond dust, so Jet Black is a no go for me.
*buys $1000 dollar iphone only to cover it up with a ugly case*
Basically :|
Or a clear case...or a clear skin.
if you're stupid enough to be spending 1000 bucks on a phone anyway, at least put that thing in a case so that it's protected from being dropped
The jet black phone is so beautiful that it belongs in a display case.
Not paint. polished aluminum
whats the point of the jet black existing.
***** glossy black shouldnt exist, I condone anyone who supports it. Thank goodness for rose pink
I don't think condone [approve or sanction (something)] means what you think it means. Perhaps you meant condemn [express complete disapproval of, or alternately, sentence (someone) to a particular punishment, especially death]?
for advertising
Have you seen the high-end Galaxy lineup? They're all flashy. Maybe this is Apple's answer to that.
fordhouse8b THATS WHAT I MEANT LOL

Jet black is just a fancy name for a piano black finish.
And lets be honest, who sands their piano down, or slides it across a table?
this version schould be not start selling...
The gloss black is for the occasions one would like to wear a Rolex to a party.

Hajji Daoud how has that gone for you ? I’ve had my jet black for about 2 weeks
Well looks like mine is going to have a full body screen protector.
You got dbrand and slickwraps for that!
I Want a clear skin though.
Slickwraps got the naked series, it’s transparent.
Well i might just have to try that out then. Now its time to decide between the S7 Edge or the 7 Plus.
It all depends on what you prefer, both are great phones! I prefer Android, but you kind of choose the build quality, the OS and how they handle things like notifications, file handling and so on.
What about the front? Do we honestly need a screen protector?
why not use ceramic? sure, its brittle as hell but better than being easily scratched
most premium option = most fragile option. Apple logic.
sort of like a lexus or mercedes :P
it's not most premium it has the same price as other iphone 7 colors....
Why would the jet black need that terrible case instead of just a clear protective film like you put on the front
wow common apple we all spend 600 dollars on these phones can't u make something scratch resistant
They did. In 4 out of 5 available colour options.
$600? What...black market pricing?
Cherry Stone 600? More like 1000$ In Norway they cost somewhere around 1200$
Good points but I'm sure there are much nicer cases to put on the phone regardless of colour . That case even on a silver phone would look pretty bad 😂 A matte black vs Jet Black would also have been a much better comparison. The scratches on both will be much more visible than on the silver back.
Só on the table test on the i7 you use both hands and on the silver you use one hand, wtf was that for a test ?
I've been saying this. Jet Black is a downgrade. People were fooled on getting it.
you are right bcoz apple didn't made a 32gb of jet black 😂
Downgrade based on what? Scratch-resistance? That's like saying a bigger diamond on your ring is a downgrade because it's easier to damage, or that a Ferrari is worse than a Camry because it has less storage capacity lmao

fightnight14 hey dumbass , did you know you can stick a transparent sticker to avoid scratches and finger prints ?
what's the point of having a jet black iphone if you have to hide it behind a case?
Is the jet black just the back of the iPhone 3gs backing on a iPhone 7. I have not seen the phone yet in person
No the 3GS did not shine like the Jet black 7
No, one is plastic and the other is polished aluminum
there will always be a scratch and easily brakes on any glossy phone, I mean what about the 4 and 4s and all android phones with glass in the back. I fell your pain jet black mates.
4 and 4s are better because they are glass. This is one is just gloss paint, hence it is easily scratched.
been there too with the old iPods that have the chrome finish on the back.
+Gen Ius it's not glossy paint it's Aluminium oxide !
+NA I will admit that anything transparent in general would be noticed very easily than the solid materials 🤔
NA Technically I think that's still glossy paint. It's glossy paint over the porous aluminum. Like how do you anodize aluminum? Paint goes to the small pores. Ok let's call it glossy dye.
All I see are two tricks damaging two perfectly good phones.
they didnt even use a black 6S only a light silver. please
Maybe you can erase some scratches by using one of those «markers» used on cars.
So people would buy the Jet Black iPhone to put at cover on it? That's pretty sad, plus doest dust get into the cover and it will eventually scratch the phone all long the sides? I've never put a cover on my phones.
just wait for iphone 7s or iphone 8
iphone 9s just to be sure
12C or 13se or nothing
Might as well wait for the Iphone 70s or Iphone 80 because that's what everyone says every year.
I have no time to wait
iphone 7s +1
Another option is to apply GadgetShieldz body skin on it
My iPhone 6 is close to it's second year of daily use. I'm yet to see a single scratch.
Sandpaper is not very realistic but I am surprised at how badly the desk test affected it 😲
Let's be realistic you are not Gonna treat like trash this beautiful phone
Don't understand how people are so obsessed with the jet black finish. The gloss finish makes it look like an iPhone 5c finish and obviously its a scratch and fingerprint magnet.
Prefer the matte black but still overall, I think the iPhone 7 is a pointless upgrade unless you've got an iPhone 5s
First of all, you can easily get a non-visible coating for the phone, so you are basically not losing anything about the design. Second, is that only me feeling the rubbing and shaking process sexual??
Should have tested a black aluminum vs black gloss. This test is not fair.
The size on both phones is not the same.it is not a fair test
Why buy any phone and not get a case anyways. That's like buying a expensive car and no car insurance. You can take the case off at home. But out and about why would you not protect a 1000 dollar investment. No case is basically you trying to be flashy. That's what you get when you stunt with a phone.
can use transparent skin to protect the scratch
Why would someone buy a jetblack in the first place? The first time i see the jet black ip7, the first thing comes to my mind is the iphone 3g, iphone 5c in a black color and a throwback phone, the first touch screen phone that introduced where all people still uses nokia phones or keypad phones. That's why Good job tim cook, steve job would be so proud of you, definitely
Matte Black it is
does the clear case hide the gloss look?
Sadly, yes, a clear case turns the Jet Black iPhone into a "black iPhone" (the gloss is almost gone). I went to the AppleStore and tried a colorless TPU case that I bought on eBay.
I wouldn’t care if my Jet Black earned a few battle scars
what material is the jet black? Like plastic or something?
Aluminum
JackPlaysOfficial what about the coating
In person it's feels better than sex..
Aluminium oxide
NA thx
And it's out of stock
And people say that black hides dirt/scratches
Como para que destruir un teléfono?
Si ya advirtieron que era muy propenso a raya duras?
doesn't make sense comparing two different textures or colors. that's like comparing if a Nissan Micra as fast as a gtr because their both Nissan.
even the case scratches the jet black D:
if no velvet interior :c
It makes me cry to see you rube sandpaper at the iPhones 😧
Leave it to Apple to make the age old saying #blackdontcrack obsolete
I really don't get the hype about that jet black iphone. it looks like a cheap ass black 5c.
From the pictures...my early thoughts were I disagreed.....saw it in person...felt it.....totally agree with you. Definitely way different in person.
Managed to hands on with a jet black in a show room and have to say that it is really gorgeous. You cannot judge based on picture on the net. I had a same opinion as yours but when I played with it, jaw drop.
You don’t tell
what brand of case is shown at the end?
Yes let's test sandpaper that is used in construction to scratch a phone because sandpaper doesn't scratch a thing.
yea it's kinda stupid but at least you see it's more visible in jet black compare to silver..
Sand like particles collect in pockets and for anyone who works outdoors this is the most relevant test of all.
true you have your point
thats why there are cases so use one and this wont happen
Well most smartphone users use cases anyway and don't be stupid with putting ur phone (any phone ) in a pocket with ur keys and change
apple should use ceramic at back of their jet black, instead polish it to be like this.
They should do cobblestone, ceramic...basically anything that could be an expensive/fancy counter top would be awesome :P
How do you transition from each clip?
I can already feel the regret from people who bought the jet black iPhone 7
whats the point?
Apple always had a jet black iPhone. So that colour isn't really new.
Looks way cheaper looks more like the IPhone 5C
What the hell was apple thinking when they were making this jet black?!
This Jet black color option is Apple checking the "waters" to see if they can make the isheep to pay more for a lower quality iphone model.
That's a BAD APPLE !
of course, as americans love carrying their phones unprotected
I'll let mine in the box
