This song is a masterpiece! DT is my favorite band of all time and it's not even close. Such powerful cinematic complex emotional journeys, every time!
You should really watch a live video from these guys, I highly recommend Breaking All Illusions live at the Boston Opera House. Watching them play their complex music live is so entrancing.
Dream theater is my favorite band. I recommend illumination theory live at the Boston opera House. If you want to get blown away this will get the job done
Glad to see you doing more Dream Theater. I saw them with Megadeth on Gigantour around 2004. Killer show. "Panic Attack" would be a good song choice for another Dream Theater song. I hope you do more reactions from them...so much to discover and extremely diverse in sound. Hey man...also check out a band called Pain of Salvation sometime. They are pretty damn unique and have a huge catalogue.
Most people pass over them thinking they're just showing off, which they are, that's beside the point. They love what they do, and in turn people love what they do. The Rush and Genesis Influence is strong with this particular song...
I just watched your reaction to Barstool Warrior and I enjoyed hearing what you had to say, especially about the lyrics. Very thoughtful for a first time listen.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT Yes, they really are. I've been a huge fan since the early 90's. If you like what you've heard so far, there's much more for you to explore! I would recommend the full Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence but it's a conceptual piece that runs 42 minutes from start to finish. One of their best in my opinion.
Awesome reaction. Since you've reacted to The Glass Prison, you might as well react to the rest of the 12 Step Suite. Can't end at the beginning, right? Unless, of course, you are reacting to Octivarium. Then you must end at the beginning...
To me this song brings me a feeling of empathy through the delicate melodies (and the guitar solo). At the end of the song the energy changes towards overcoming and hope. It's interesting how this transition is made, as you mention, reminds me a bit to Crystal Prison.
Oh my goodness, you definitely have to listen to more of this band. I loved this song because it tried to sound (in many parts) to sound like their early days in the early 90s. Different eras of DT have different sounds, hard or soft, but always amazing. Thanks for reacting!
Ur r so right my friend I am a 30 year dream theater fan it's funny because they r so complex some say they have no soul in their music u hit the nail on the head with this song when u hear it u feel it in ur ur soul another great song that hits this Mark is the live version of breaking all illusions please check it out u will soon find ur self looking for more dream theater they just draw u in o I am also a fan of animals as leaders amazing band
Great review! You nailed what makes DT so special. Dream theater has been my favorite band since I first heard them in the late 90s. There aren't very many bands like them. Check out Pyramid Theorem if you're looking for a similar experience. Their song "Closer to the end" is a good introduction to the band. Cheers!
Doing this T & T rabbit hole and found a couple DT reactions I hadn't gotten to yet., so I had to climb in! Love finding people who appreciate this shit as much as me! Thanks for the request LELGARD! Cheers!!! Peace!!!!
I have been a DT fan for 30 years. If you really want to go on a journey I highly recommend doing an album review of Metropolis Pt. 2 Scenes from a Memory. An absolute roller coaster ride and work of art.
If you want something not overly complex, start with Panic Attack, As I Am, or Pull Me Under. If you want something complex but not too long check out Metropolis Pt1, Take the Time, or The Dance of Eternity. If you want complexity with a bit of length, check out Learning to Live, Breaking All Illusions, or In the Name of God. If your ready to change your life forever (for the better) by listening to the epics, check out Octavarium, A Change of Seasons, or the Count of Tuscany.
You mentioned The Glass Prison and addiction, and it was written by Mike Portnoy, their drummer at the time, and his struggles with alcoholism. It's the first in a set of 5 songs that encompass the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous. The next four parts are This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil, Repentance, and The Shattered Fortress.
Thanks for reacting to a wonderful DT song. Liked and subbed!! FYI, the Glass Prison is part of a suite of 5 songs that carry you through the addiction recovery process. You heard the first song in that set. I highly highly highly recommend you listen to the other 4 songs in order. This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil, Repentance, and The Shattered Fortress. What. A. Journey. Changed my life.
Great reaction! I know what you're saying. There's a resolve in the piece and you will always be left with sense of satisfaction. I'm not sure if you have already heard the song, but if you want to be taken to a journey, then please check out - The Count of Tuscany. By the one and only Dream Theater of course :)
Also, I know I'm late but I have two reaction ideas for you, Answering the Call, and A View From the Top of The World. Both from their newest album. The title track, the second one, is a 20+ minute epic journey about climbing Mount Everest, but like always, they write their lyrics so literally anybody can connect to them and compare their own lives with the music.
Very good interpretation of the lyrics and appreciation of the complex musicality of DT, their music is not for everyone even though they are arguably the most talented band to exist but to each their own I guess. If you want to see some crazy and zany progressive all over the place music, then I would recommend DT's Instrumedley Live at Budokan video, you can see the members playing their instruments and there's a whole lot of transitional change ups throughout the whole song.
You’ve done yourself such a great service by enjoying and absorbing music that many couldn’t handle or wouldn’t consider the norm. To see the beauty, emotion and timelessness music can offer is a journey everyone should take. Without music life would be a mistake
couldnt agree more... core of prog metal but tap into so many genres.. wouldnt be my first choice of song either but the middle section gives me goosebumps.. and the solo is JP at his best showing off his dynamics!
If you want an adventure, have a listen on Octavarium by Dream Theater. It's 24:00 minutes long, surely, but it would make a great reaction video. If you consider doing it, you're in for a treat. You haven't heard the best song in the world until you get trapped inside Octavarium \m/
Just discovered your channel, and subscribed. Great reaction and going to check out your other videos. Can you tackle some RUSH. If you like DT you will love RUSH they were a huge influence on DT. They also are great musicians with deep thought provoking lyrics, and only 3 members. Check out Tom Saywer, Spirit of the Radio, or YYZ to start off.
@Johan Sjöberg your nuts!🤯🤪 pianos hav there place definitely, but th Keyboards in Dream Theater take away from th heavy beauty of their music & add a weird 80's DuranDuran vibe which I can definitely do w/o! Jus imo 4what its worth🍻🍸🥃🎸🎶👊
"a certain level of complexity in their music" ... The understatement of the decade 😂
I had a dream about motzart showing up in the modern day and asking him what he thinks about dream theater before.
I've thought the exact same thing. I think he'd be impressed.
Mozart would put his hand to his mouth in thought and say “I can’t add anything to this…it’s perfect!”
😂😂😂😂
This song is a masterpiece! DT is my favorite band of all time and it's not even close. Such powerful cinematic complex emotional journeys, every time!
This song brings tears to my eyes, every time... The guitar solo!!!😍
You should really watch a live video from these guys, I highly recommend Breaking All Illusions live at the Boston Opera House. Watching them play their complex music live is so entrancing.
@@primemover1416 labrie sounds great on breaking the fourth wall

DT is THE Band!!!! Next: "At Wit's End", same album
Oh yes!
@@mtaffer AT WIT'S END for the WIN!!!
Amazing lyrics amazing intro amazing solo amazing piano break amazing outro!

I agree
Gigantour is when I saw them too. In Irvine.
And you almost fooled me with the accent Hans
Absolutely love everything about this band. They are mind blowing live!
Even my kids love this one, the solo that builds during the piano is just so emotional. This is my favorite on the new album. Stay safe!
This is Dream Theater's latest release .from 2019.. it's a good one . .. great band.
You captured the ethos and pure essence of the artistic meaning behind Dream Theater music! You have a gift, and a GREAT ear for music...great job!
Most people pass over them thinking they're just showing off, which they are, that's beside the point. They love what they do, and in turn people love what they do. The Rush and Genesis Influence is strong with this particular song...
Octavarium will blow you away. But it’s 24 minutes long 😁
Don't you mean "AND it's 24 minutes long"? I would only have it be longer
Haha check "Morsefest 2014 - The Strange in Your Soul" this is beautiful art of music!! Lord of prog!!
Dream theater is pure musicianship which the main stream doesn't want to recognize.
Welcome to the king of kings in music. Enjoy!!! IMHO they're the best that have ever graced music. 😊
I just watched your reaction to Barstool Warrior and I enjoyed hearing what you had to say, especially about the lyrics. Very thoughtful for a first time listen.
I love how dream theater puts their music together. Their songs are meticulously well crafted.

I am also a 30 year alumni. Knew they were special when i heard WDADU in '89...
Same here I've been doing them since the Images and Words tour back in 1992. Dream Theater's music speaks to my soul on so many levels.

Boom, every reason why I love DT you just expressly said exactly word for word! Cheers!
Stream of Consciousness by Dream Theater is probably the best instrumental of all time.
I second this

Yeah man, love that song. Agh, so much emotion!

Great brake down of a very complex band ! If I could suggest a song for you to listen to by Dream Theater, it would be A Change of Seasons. Its epic !
