I'm leaving a pinned comment as well just so people understand. This is a reupload! The original's audio was atrocious since my mic died. It's been 6 months so I decided to rerecord the script on my new mic. This also let me add a few new things to the video and tighten up the script. I hope you enjoy the Mewtwo remaster!
@@Engie-T that's a complicated question because I'm kind of behind on videos right now. (This didn't replace an upload, it was just something that I could make in a shorter amount of time). My next 4 videos are going to be Random, Byleth, Fox (In every single Smash game), and I just started playing Wario today!
Changed my mind since the last upload. In the end, I settled on the idea that Mewtwo is a mid/high tier in an individual match, but drops to a mid-tier in the context of a long tournament. Its kind of difficult to explain my viewpoint but I will give it a go. Characters like Incineroar or Donkey Kong (who I have been called worse than mewtwo on paper numerous times), have relatively simple punish games and benefit from the x-factor of their grab game (cargo throw/Alolan wip etc). This gives them a niche in the meta, thanks to some tools that no top tier has access too and being simple enough to not attract the player's attention from moment to moment gameplay. Mewtwo has a lot of really good tools yes, which are comparable to those of a top/high tier. But they add an executional element to his gameplay, which combined with his weakness is a bridge too far for most players too make. TLDR: He's got the weakness of a mid-tier, but he also has too deal with a relatively complex, high execution gameplan. So he isn't that attractive to pick up and ends up worse than he actually is. Plus, he loses to a lot of the really popular characters so long tournament brackets become a nightmare. Ultimately, results at big tournaments make people believe in a character. Not the opinions of us 2-2 ers.
Also, I play incineroar I know how simple his gameplan is. Doesn't mean fighting a samus isn't hard, but there's no monado art micro-management going on.
I totally see what you're saying. If a player is at their peak and only has to deal with even matchups Mewtwo kind of wins for free. But add in volatility in matchups, long tournaments constantly requiring peak performance, and a character who is inherently inconsistent with how easy it is for him to die it can make something that's amazing on paper more difficult to implement in practice.
watching this video again, I noticed something funny: mewtwo seems to play somewhat like greninja, in that they both have the tools to enable and a crippling reliance on tricky movement and mixups. Honestly it all seems so sick that I'm kinda sad the character doesn't fit my usual callout-heavy playstyle.
As a Pikachu main (who I would love for you to do an episode on by the way) Mewtwo is one of the most consistently fun and enjoyable characters to play other than my main. Who cares if he isn’t the greatest, he’s fun as hell.
@@TuesdayTastic It’s ok, I get it. Pikachu has a steep learning curve and is difficult to play. I can’t wait to see what you do with him! Love your content!
I heard top players saying Mewtwo was low tier, and I couldn't understand. He's fast, has a good recovery, has crazy ranged options, and hits like a truck. I can see him struggle vs meta characters but not so much that he underperforms vs other midtiers
Mewtwo's flaws simply are way too prominent to make his strengths show. He struggles at landing, has poor OoS, dies absurdly early, can't deal with characters that safely mash on his shield (fox/Roy). His range is also a double-edged sword since whenever you use a big tail move, you are actively risking your own hurtbox with it.
@@TuesdayTastic the problem with Mewtwo is that he has high speed and one of the best projectiles and with that he should be played more campy way sadly...(and also he has reflector)
Mewtwo is so fun either way. Didn’t catch the original (thanks RUclips algorithm) but I mess around constantly with them. I can’t ever pull the combos together right though 😂
I do feel a little bad about that. But the clip was too good not to include. Hey, maybe when I get to Peach and Daisy at the end of the series years from now you'll reconsider!
One thing I'll never understand is why the ROB mains get the meme of "ROB is Big" but why Mewtwo doesn't either I know people say the Tail this the Tail that but no Mewtwo is just simply and plainly really really Big too sometimes I think people either forget that or don't notice it because they're fixated on the Tail as if that's the only huge part on it
This is a really fair point! Although the main difference is just the weight. Weighing as much as Olimar but having a hurtbox literally 10x bigger really sucks. But everything else about him is broken so idk maybe he's broken.
@@TuesdayTastic Yeah I agree not much real complaints in the kit from me either but to answer the weight issue, I think that if Sm4sh has shown us anything it's that you can make the glass canon archetype work imo
@@armandomorfin3845 You're right he's actually 5 units heavier than he was in smash 4. I have seen a few mewtwo sets in smash 4 (it was before my time) in that game he basically doesn't have a disadvantage state, so its kind of like game&watch where if you're defensive options are good enough weight doesn't actually matter that much. Its just that mewtwo's disadvantage state is complete garbage.

@@TuesdayTastic wario is pretty fun I have to admit!
The different special tech in this game makes Mewtwo a blast to play. Disable is such a satisfying option for reads too. Cut my bois tail.

We're doing a sequel...it's back by popular demand!
Cmon everyone let’s strike up the band

Holy references

Yeah sometimes there are characters that on paper should have everything you want but if you don't click with them no need to force it.
I recently picked up Mewtwo, I gotta say out of all current “low tiers” in Ultimate, I think he’s the best built (out of them) to win at a high level.
As a Pikachu main (who I would love for you to do an episode on by the way) Mewtwo is one of the most consistently fun and enjoyable characters to play other than my main. Who cares if he isn’t the greatest, he’s fun as hell.
I have big plans for Pikachu but unfortunately it's going to take a year before I can do them. Trust me it'll be worth it!

Love the episode also I'm trying more characters because I had about 7 or 8 characters I hadn't tried
I still have 60 left to try oh boy
@@TuesdayTasticha I'm gonna grind docter mario next
I do love playing this character, so powerful
After I first saw this video I decided to pick up mewtwo, now he's my main! Thanks for helping me figure out how fun mewtwo is only on tuesdays!
Oh my god really? That's so cool! I'm so happy I helped you with your character crisis haha. Mewtwo is sick.
I just realized that the Sheik's tag in the melee clip is Magikarp lol. Mewtwo really proving he's the strongest Pokemon.
11:46 because of that I think that Mewtwo is more inconsistent than Lucario...
If you just play perfect they're broken! But yeah, dying at 50 twice in the same game sucks.

Do you have any plans to do a yoshi vid in the near future? He’s my main and I have a feeling I’d learn a good bit
Not currently, Patrons are the ones who choose my next character and that character is Wario right now.
WOOHOO MY SECOND FAVORITE MID TIER
Well, whose the first?
Mewtuesday has returned!
For at least a little while, but soon he will return to the shadows.
9:10 How can Ness be a bad MU for Mewtwo? As a Psychic-type, it resists Psychic attacks.
Fighting Ness doesn't make sense I've never seen Shadowball be Super Effective and Not Very Effective against the same target make it make sense!
A sequel or perhaps a re-upload of a previous character crisis entry? We won’t know
Edit: nvm I forgor to read the pinned comment
Lol for a second i thought i was going crazy
I think you should do ice climbers character crisis.

The combos have really hard execution but feel so good when you get them.

Mewtwo is such a cool Character
Genuinely one of the sickest characters in the game.
I’m an idiot, I just realized what his name means
I see you remembered what day of the week it is
Wait wha?
Surprise! I hated the original's audio so much I decided to redo it.

No your not. Fair so good.
Not the joker 🥴
It was so funny coming back to this and being like "oh wait I know him now lmao"
Honestly Mewtwo should be a mid tier
i think mewtwo your soul main m8
He's up there for sure. But Ike ended up surprising me a lot so I don't want to stop searching yet!
