The story is great, and keeps me playing but there is a catch for f2p, the end game content can be quite the challenge if u are not lucky with pulls, some characters are just downright overpowered if used in the right party. HoYo is pretty generous though in rewards, most say way more so than in Genshin
You can absolutely clear endgame content with pretty much any characters, but I agree that odds and RNG can be a hindrance because ultimately performance relies on gear stats which are a matter of luck, so one person might be able to gear up a character to full power in a few days while another may take weeks or even months. Pretty much everything else about the game is fantastic IMO, and the upside is that it's an ongoing live service so with perseverance you will still definitely see progress.
@@0v_x0 I think even now, they really did a good job improving the farming aspect compared to launch. It's still easy to misuse your trailblaze power early on, but sooner or later, you'll start knowing how to effectively use it.

This is my first introduction to you, as I just felt like watching someone new play my current favorite game. Bro, you are playing this so intelligently! Like, you actually READ instructions! It's fine to need to learn a new game but most streamers arrogantly ignore all help and then ask "what's happening?!". But all your questions are intelligently placed and so refreshing to watch. 🥰
I love the idea of more one-offs! I've been playing HSR since day 1 and have been loving it. The music is consistently good with a lot of stand out tracks.
Hi Mage! The reason March was attacking outside of you selecting her is that her passive makes it so that when an ally she has a shield on gets attacked, she counters
correction: ANY shield activates her passive! for example, somebody could have a shield from only fire trailblazer, get attacked, and it would still trigger the follow up attack of March's passive
@@GrimTzureally? I find her extremely useful when paired with Trailblazer Preservation, sure it's not fast but it's consistent chip damage and as long as you have a healer you can grind down enemies very consistently

I saw episode 2 got uploaded and was like "WHATTTTT THAT MEANS THERE WAS AN EPISODE 1?!?!?" Can't believe I missed that notification! I have been enjoying this game on and off and I'm glad you've decided to give it a shot
"You know who you are" *starts sweating nervously* - As far as things that the game doesn't explain super well off the bat (heh, bat) the easiest way to level characters is using experience books. You can fight enemies to gain experience but that's so much slower, and you can get plenty of EXP books along the way so most people use those. Light cones are basically equippable weapons, and use a different experience material to level up - they also ascend similar to characters! Really excited that you're playing this, I'd love to see more of your playthrough!
So, full disclaimer - I'm only 51 minutes into the video at the time of writing this comment, and I am perfectly aware that this was uploaded 11 days ago (and that Episode 2 was recently released). Regardless, I'm going to throw down some advice/clarifications for you here before I forget: 1) Ultimates can indeed be used during the enemy turn. They also do not use up your character's turn, either, so you can use a normal attack/skill *and* an Ultimate subsequently, or vice-versa. In the early game, you'll mainly be using Ultimates to finish off enemies before they have the chance to attack you or to get some extra mileage out of a character during their turn, but later on (when you have characters who have more complex kits, require specific team compositions/stat setups or who have Ultimates that are support-focused), you'll find that using them becomes more tactical, requiring careful timings to use them optimally. At this point, you're pretty much safe to use Ultimates the moment they become available in a battle - though further into the game, it's definitely worth occasionally saving them for the next fight (since, as you've learned, unused Ultimates do indeed carry over). 2) The reason that March 7th is sometimes attacking without your input is because her particular "Talent" (which you can read more about on her character page under "abilities") allows her to automatically perform something called a "Follow-Up Attack" on *any enemy who deals damage to a shielded character; regardless of whether or not that shield was deployed by her*. If you look above her health bar when in battle, you might spot two little diamonds - this is her "Follow-Up" counter. Each time she uses that Follow-Up Attack, one of those diamonds disappears, at which point she won't be able to use this talent again until they replenish during the next battle turn. 3) Star Rail is unique in that many characters in this game - especially 5* characters - possess entirely unique mechanics that are exclusive to them. Some are far more simple, straightforward and common (such as Dan Heng and his ability to inflict the Slow debuff with his skill attack) while others possess attacks, skills, techniques and Ultimates that are focused around enhancing, manipulating and/or taking advantage of a particular game mechanic, or whom have kits which synergise best with specific team compositions. There are DoT (damage over time) characters, debuffers, supports, healers, characters who sacrifice HP to deal more damage, characters focused on Weakness Break... There's quite a lot of complexity and strategy. 4) In battle, you should *always* be depleting an enemy's toughness bar, if you can help it. I've noticed you using your main character, who is a "Physical" type, to attack enemies who lack that weakness while one who *is* weak to Physical damage is standing right there. Inflicting "Weakness Break" on an enemy is extremely advantageous - it pushes them down in the turn order, can sometimes force them to skip a turn, and the actual moment in which you inflict Weakness Break also deals a lot of extra damage. 5) While skill point management is important, especially in the mid-to-late game, you definitely don't need to use them so sparingly, like you have been here. Basic Attacks often do far less health & toughness damage than Skill Attacks, and some Skills also inflict extra effects, like debuffs.

This was a pleasant surprise to see this morning. Yes, these games do have absolutely amazing music, and I would love to see more videos from you in the future (but only if you're interested). Don't worry too much about information overload at the start, as you have plenty of time to ease into the mechanics. Just don't do Equilibrium quests to increase new tiers of your "Trailblaze Level" until you're ready, as that raises the game's entire difficulty. Gacha system is also fully optional (you can progress in these games 100% completely for free), and the vibe of the game is just Dragon Quest levels of silly overall. There is some timed live-service stuff, but the game is super chill about whether or not you want to attend, so no worries about missing anything either.

I like the idea of you just trying out some games. It doesn't have to be a full playthrough and just gives us an idea of what the game is like and if we want some more of it we can pick it up ourselves
For a free-to-play game I'm pretty blown away by how well polished this game looks. I'm sure there are incentives to spend money down the line once you're invested time wise though but still it looks like it plays as a AAA title
I've played both Genshin and Honkai Star Rail since day 1. They are very F2P friendly. There are no sudden brick walls that force you to spend. You can clear the entire story quite comfortably with only the free characters (and you'll have more than just the free characters if you play the game for a while, even if you don't spend any money on it). I'd even go as far as to say that it might be more fun to be a F2P or a low spender than a whale. If you have every character you would always use the meta teams. If you're limited in who you can use you have to get creative, use characters that often get overlooked, try unexpected team compositions and so on.
Yeah the incentives are that you like the character, but you can complete even the hardest aspects of the game (as well as in Genshin) with free characters/you can save up for characters you want for free
Its very nice seeing someone getting into star rail, Welcome aboard and the game is very free to play friendly, you won’t be needing to spend money at all.
1:14:45 Another reason to keep playing; this soundtrack will never disappoint! 1:15:50 Bro, you came up with that so fast, lol 😅 I also love that unlike most other streamers, you weren't playing just to get to the gacha and seemed more interested in gameplay 😊
I've been playing this game for about a month. I do love this game. The story is great. The music is beautiful. It does feel just like an RPGs. There is now the 2.0 update with a new area/planet. There a lot of quests even relating to the main characters of this game and secondary characters as well that are enjoyable (some have great humour, lol). There are some good twists and turns. ❤😊
just started watching but i wanted to say you absolutely can get through the game and do very well without spending money! i haven’t spent a dollar on this game in the year i’ve played it and i have a really good selection of 5* characters, though i am just VERY lucky i think, since i haven’t lost a 50/50 yet xD i’ll probably comment again at some other points, i apologize for any rambling in advance!
oh yeah one of my fav things about this game is the combat system - one of the main reasons i prefer it over genshin (which i do love) is because it gives me time to think and strategize! gives me way more of a sense of accomplishment than just spamming and hoping for the best 😭
Yeah, it's true. I'm playing since release day and I didn't spend any money at all. I have all 4-star characters and a pretty solid selection of 5-star characters. Of course, I lost a 50/50 here and there along the way but nevertheless in my opinion it's pretty easy to gather enough Stellar Jades if you don't warp on every single limited banner. I personally feel some kind of accomplishment if I get a desired character after saving - spending money would take that from me. Of course, I'm totally fine with other people spending. I'm thankful even - all the spenders are the reason I can enjoy the game for free.
It’s so nice to be able to watch one of your streams again! 🎉 I haven’t in a while just because I only watch streams of games I’ve either already played or have no interest in playing, to avoid spoilers. And unfortunately I don’t have much free time, so the list of games I’ve played is short and the list of games I still want to play is very long 😂 But I’ve been playing Star Rail since launch, so there’s no risk of spoilers here. I love your chill playthroughs, perfect for listening to while I’m working. I hope you continue playing this for as long as you enjoy it, and I will keep watching. I’m off to watch the next episodes now 😄
I'm glad you liked the game! It's OK to be confused about the lore. It's the typical Hoyoverse style of storytelling - to drop you right into a world and let you figure out things from there. Don't worry - by the time certain bits of lore become relevant to the story at hand you'll already understand them. There's also a lot of foreshadowing. For example, when Silver Wolf said that immortality isn't always a good thing. You'll see what this means soon enough. Speaking of Silver Wolf - she loves to break the 4th wall, to the point that she is probably aware of being a character in a game. During her first banner she pestered the main character with messages egging him on to pull for her, for example. Even her character trailer video ("got a date?") has the same vibe. From her perspective even getting up from a chair is a QTE. As for March and her automatic attacks - those are called "follow ups", and in her case they are triggered by enemies attacking a character she has given a shield to. Kafka also has a follow up mechanic. When someone else in your party uses a normal attack Kafka would fire a burst at the same target from her SMGs. Himeko and Herta have AoE follow up attacks. BTW, you will get Herta (and her eidolons) for free pretty soon, and she is actually pretty good against ice-vulnerable trash mobs. And speaking of free characters - once the in-game mail is unlocked you can get your free Serval and Dr. Ratio. Both are really good.
as someone that doesnt like gacha, this game is very very playable without the gacha, if you wanna try gacha you can try some of the gacha if you wanted without spend any money be sure to claim prize from the dev in the mail. and idk what kinda story you like but this story update is very very good and i hope you can continue this series. take your time with the game, and sometimes comment might be intimidating or backseat ish but just ignore em. skill desc in each character are unique, if you dont mind some light reading than you might read some of them so you might understand what they can do.
the gacha might be very intimidating but i dont feel anybody need to use the gacha system to enjoy the game. i already treat this game like a console type of rpg rather than mobile one.
I highly recommend this game, you dont even need to pay to win, just play and oh man this music is just great i cant wait for you to reach what is considered (in my personal opinion) the best boss fight like ever, the music, style, everything just hits right they just released 2.0 its really fun cant wait for you get to this point in the game (shouldn't be long really but still enjoyable)
@@magemasher22 i was gonna comment on couple things but seeing you're on twitch, you probably play it live and chat is helping you xD and also i just realized this was 2 weeks ago, and by this time u would already know all the basics u need to know xD
Honkai Star Rail is actualy one of the more generous and less predatory gachas out there where every patch which lasts around 6 weeks there's practically enough in game currency income to pretty much guarantee a 5 star unit. The character and light cone banner systems also have a pity mechanic where after a certain number of warps you're always guaranteed a 5 star quality entity. And they've also given every player a limited 5* character called Dr. Ratio for free via in game mail as a gesture to the community for winning the best mobile game award at TGA. On top of that you if you only care about the story and don't care one bit about obtaining limited characters or other in game modes you can finish the story with the free characters easily.
So excited to see your reaction to this game! The music is absolutely wonderful. Because there is so much content and you can make so much progress without spending money on the game, it's the kind of game that I don't mind spending the odd $5 on here and there. 43:16 Would you like me to explain why March was attacking? I am enjoying watching you play this and would love to see more. I can definitely see this being a good game to stream.
45:15 I promise you won't notice. It's not a restrictive element. You were expected to prevent damage in that fight with March's shield, and you'll encounter enough anchors that you will probably never click on them again.
Ooo! Starting Star Rail huh? Nice. :D Ive Very behind on the story myself but the music and story is strong here. Hope you enjoy it. Loving how much content youve been up too. Persona 3 ill watch eventually but its a game i want to play myself first haha
How have I been obsessivwly watching your upload schedule and didn't realize you were playing this when I was looking a few hours ago I just downloaded and started this game today, still pretty much in the intro far as I can tell, so I might not even finish this video for spoilers sake. But still, from what I've played, I definitely want to watch along as I play. Edit 1, theory 1: I get the feeling the Genius Society are like... Maybe the Sparks from the Girl Genius webcomic. Intellectuals powerful enough to rewrite reality, but always a bit crazy at the same time. Just... Always, instead of sometimes. And not as extreme on the madness end.
@@magemasher22 Enjoying it so far, just hope you get into reading at least character stories at some point Already hit where I left off, so I can't say for certain whether I like this LP as much as the Danganronpa one or the FF16 one yet though. Probably will.
Im sooo excited for you to try this :D as I know ur a ff old skool player, I think you will like this but maybe the leveling system and gotacha aspect might not be ya cuppa tea: D but I hope you try the end game in future :3 Cant wait to see whats your fav characters are and who you use. Good luck on ya 5* pulls :3
this is prolly rlly stupid but first video i’m seeing of you and i just need to say i loved the way you played? thank you for being so normal about it! most streamers i’ve tried to watch spend half their gameplay time joking/objectifying the female characters and being weird about them which always makes me kinda uncomfortable, so it’s cool to find someone who’s just playing the game. i love the combat and the lore is entertaining too so seeing new people try it always feels a little nostalgic hope you enjoyed :)
Even if you don't like turn-based RPG (which you do) and anime stylistisc (which you also do) the soundtrack alone still makes this game worth playing. Also, you might want to read more skill descriptions to answer questions like "Why does March 7 attack on her own?" :3 (Spoiler: this is her passive skill)
For someone who skips the cutscenes, this is my chance to know more of the story. I'm so glad I discovered your Channel. I only know the basic knowledge but never really understood the whole picture. Can't wait for you to reach Penacony in the future!

cant wait for the next videos for HSR, donno if you tried genshin before, hoyoverse game is famous for its world building and lore, the story can only get better and better.
1:06:05 Nah, totally not the most atrocious mistake streamers make. You've got a lot to juggle and still trying learn even though you expect this to be a one off. Hopefully you find enough support to get invested in this game for real 😊
MAGE!! IT'S GENSHIN IN SPAAAACE. I've been playing since it's been released. Kafka and a certain redhead, who is like a Roman Goddess are definitely maternal parental units. Haha
This game looks really good! I enjoyed Genshin for a while but eventually the gatcha aspects and 1000 different currencies on the UI cheapen the experience for me. Respect though, they make good games just with a different monetisation method. It shows that gatcha doesn't have to just be some shit.
Honkai games are the kind of thing that only gets better the deeper you go. I promise you won't regret playing it more if you enjoyed your start.

ahHH scREEched when i clicked and heard the music! Excited to see you try it out its one of my fave games atm!
The music is SO GOOD!!!!
We need trailer character reaction before the next playthrough!!
Awesome, would love to watch you play the story after that one.
Its very nice seeing someone getting into star rail, Welcome aboard and the game is very free to play friendly, you won’t be needing to spend money at all.

Another reason to keep playing; this soundtrack will never disappoint!
1:15:50
Bro, you came up with that so fast, lol 😅
I also love that unlike most other streamers, you weren't playing just to get to the gacha and seemed more interested in gameplay 😊
This was great!! I really enjoyed this playthrough. I would love to see some more!
It’s taken me days to get the tutorial done since I’m used to Genshin Impact. But I also ran out of storage but I’ll enjoy watching you play !
A few of Genshin Impact voice actors lend voices to this game too
"oh my god it's a sentient ceiling fan" 😂😂😂 the way I hollered
I've been playing this game for about a month. I do love this game. The story is great. The music is beautiful. It does feel just like an RPGs. There is now the 2.0 update with a new area/planet. There a lot of quests even relating to the main characters of this game and secondary characters as well that are enjoyable (some have great humour, lol). There are some good twists and turns. ❤😊
Sorry Kafka, I'll wait wait for Mommy Acheron.
Iirc Silver Wolf is Neptune from Hyperdimension Neptunia.
just started watching but i wanted to say you absolutely can get through the game and do very well without spending money! i haven’t spent a dollar on this game in the year i’ve played it and i have a really good selection of 5* characters, though i am just VERY lucky i think, since i haven’t lost a 50/50 yet xD i’ll probably comment again at some other points, i apologize for any rambling in advance!
took a while to come back to this video but i saw you have an entire series now so i foresee binging in my future x]
oh yeah one of my fav things about this game is the combat system - one of the main reasons i prefer it over genshin (which i do love) is because it gives me time to think and strategize! gives me way more of a sense of accomplishment than just spamming and hoping for the best 😭
I’m off to watch the next episodes now 😄
I'm so glad you find em relaxing!
God this guy is so likeable! AND he’s playing HSR, Good times.
Aw thank you!!
Asta’s voice actor also voices Mona in Genshin. And, later, Hook in the underworld of Belobog.
Along with Hina in Danganronpa and Perona in One Piece
I actually am watching this while it downloads because I guess I too am finally like okay what's this about hahaha it looks good honestly!
Welcome to the Express. Enjoy your journey.
as someone that doesnt like gacha, this game is very very playable without the gacha, if you wanna try gacha you can try some of the gacha if you wanted without spend any money
be sure to claim prize from the dev in the mail.
and idk what kinda story you like but this story update is very very good and i hope you can continue this series. take your time with the game, and sometimes comment might be intimidating or backseat ish but just ignore em.
skill desc in each character are unique, if you dont mind some light reading than you might read some of them so you might understand what they can do.
the gacha might be very intimidating but i dont feel anybody need to use the gacha system to enjoy the game. i already treat this game like a console type of rpg rather than mobile one.
If you like menu music wait till you hear "Wildfire" and Firefly song :)
Welcome aboard the Astral Express!!! Hope you enjoy your stay!!
Thanks! I am loving it so far!
" If level were a thing in real life what would my level be probably the minuses "
Exactly what I thought when I start playing HSR on that part too.😂
So excited to see your reaction to this game!
45:15
I promise you won't notice.
Cheers Nylon! Understandable on Persona 3!
A sentience ceiling fan
Now that's a scary image XD
I actually enjoy the lore..
And every second of kakfa. So if i play it might be casually
you read the game, this game is for you.
How have I been obsessivwly watching your upload schedule and didn't realize you were playing this when I was looking a few hours ago
I just downloaded and started this game today, still pretty much in the intro far as I can tell, so I might not even finish this video for spoilers sake.
I hope you enjoy it! I’ve loved it so far!
@@magemasher22
Enjoying it so far, just hope you get into reading at least character stories at some point
Already hit where I left off, so I can't say for certain whether I like this LP as much as the Danganronpa one or the FF16 one yet though. Probably will.
Let's continue until the end
Im sooo excited for you to try this :D as I know ur a ff old skool player, I think you will like this but maybe the leveling system and gotacha aspect might not be ya cuppa tea: D but I hope you try the end game in future :3 Cant wait to see whats your fav characters are and who you use. Good luck on ya 5* pulls :3
Cheers! I definitely have enjoyed it so far!
I really enjoyed your playthrough man, I hope you continue to play the game and still use the MC!
this is prolly rlly stupid but first video i’m seeing of you and i just need to say i loved the way you played? thank you for being so normal about it! most streamers i’ve tried to watch spend half their gameplay time joking/objectifying the female characters and being weird about them which always makes me kinda uncomfortable, so it’s cool to find someone who’s just playing the game. i love the combat and the lore is entertaining too so seeing new people try it always feels a little nostalgic hope you enjoyed :)
Cheers Julia! Yeah I’m absolutely loving the game, glad you enjoyed the video!
Vaguely disparages Live Service Games... and then his controller goes off? Coincidence? Well yes... but a funny one :D
You've seen "artwork"...you can't fool me lol.
Welcome to Star Rail o:
Fancy seeing you here...
@@magemasher22 if you’re pc is still running loud try turning the render resolution in settings to 1.2 or 1.4.
Yep, more please!
Is it just me or did Kafka's voice actress try to sound as Los Angeles/California as possible with every line of dialogue
Welcome to Star Rail, Mage!
Thank you! 🙏
OH MAHY GAAAHHHDD LLESSGOOOOOO
26:38 oh no.. bad ending right from the get go :O ;DD
For someone who skips the cutscenes, this is my chance to know more of the story. I'm so glad I discovered your Channel.
I only know the basic knowledge but never really understood the whole picture.
Can't wait for you to reach Penacony in the future!
yay found a new channel for HSR first time playthrough!!! subscribed
Welcome aboard!!
Stelle best girl 😢
Finally a name that is sensible
20:16 ok that made me laugh 😂
I've been hoping you would do either this or Genshin, love the one shot idea too. Hope you come back to this tho :) Cheers.
Thanks for the feedback!
Rare to see someone having Star Rail as their introduction to Hoyoverse. Interested in seeing how your experience differs from most.
Edit: mb just heard you mention you know genshin already.
I love to see people try out HSR but I forget everyone is a beginner at one point lol
Asta is a guaranteed 4* on your first Warp...so everyone gets her, which means that after Himeko leaves, you still have a Fire element user.
It only gets more fun from here 😃
oooo... I wonder if I'll get around to more haha
cant wait for the next videos for HSR, donno if you tried genshin before, hoyoverse game is famous for its world building and lore, the story can only get better and better.
First! 😃😁 Welcome to the ride of Honkai Star Rail! 😀😄 I had played the game since last year and i hope you will enjoy playing it! :)
Very much enjoyed the little I've played so far!
@@magemasher22 Nice! 😁👍🏻I hope you will continue playing it until the latest update! :)
1:06:05
Nah, totally not the most atrocious mistake streamers make. You've got a lot to juggle and still trying learn even though you expect this to be a one off. Hopefully you find enough support to get invested in this game for real 😊
i didnt pay any money for this game but I play it well~
This looks fun. I want to try it
I want to see MORE!!!!!!
wow this is unexpected! I will watch this :D
I’d watch more
MAGE!! IT'S GENSHIN IN SPAAAACE. I've been playing since it's been released. Kafka and a certain redhead, who is like a Roman Goddess are definitely maternal parental units. Haha
True
This game looks really good! I enjoyed Genshin for a while but eventually the gatcha aspects and 1000 different currencies on the UI cheapen the experience for me. Respect though, they make good games just with a different monetisation method. It shows that gatcha doesn't have to just be some shit.
1:10:43 yknow I’ve been playing since release and I still don’t understand wtf himekos weapon is 😭
