I've been listening to the Argerich version for years and stumbled upon this. I have many Arrau recordings but didn't know he recorded this. I absolutely love this recording. Now to find a copy.. the search begins.
Estoy de acuerdo, ¡Arrau es Arrau!. Pero ¿es correcto el ritmo punteado en la primera pieza? Me parece que la semicorchea es siempre demasiado breve, al menos cada vez que este motivo rítmico aparece en la voz superior (cada dos compases). O quizás me equivoque debido a la polirritmia que se produce cuando suena el ritmo punteado (3 contra 4). Me gustaría conocer la opinión de expertos.
I think it was this recording I grew up with. Some pianists seem to have gotten the idea you can pull the tempo all over the place like a polonaise. This gives the sense of a very disturbed *kind*, indeed!? It should represent a refuge from childhoods vicissitudes, from trauma even. Not the trauma itself. It’s got to have both wonder and regularity.
I love the picture of a young boy genius with wild hair. The playing is magnificent. But for my taste too heavy for this piece - I prefer VH. But still quite wonderful.

With this interpretation, Arrau gave a sense of melancholy and loneliness. My favorite version is Annie Fischer's recorded 14-17 Dec 1964.

This is one of the best versions I know, only Maria João Pires has one up on it for me. As a mere example: look at 5. _"Glückes genug"_ .

Classic Arrau sound! So round, but lacks a bit of spontaneity that I find more in the Horowitz and Argerich versions
