Wow! Honestly, you know a lot more about Filipino culture than most Filipino-Canadians I know. And as a Filipina-Canadian myself, I also started learning more about my culture through ALAMAT and historians reacting to their craft. I love how open minded you are too. And I'm on the same boat...I live in a multicultural country and LOVE learning about other people's cultures! Subscribed!
New subscriber here! I’m impressed how you sing Maharani, so far only foreigner reactor that really fluently singing it, thou I’m not discrediting other reactors, thank you for promoting shared-culture specially asian and Filipino culture and ofcourse supporting Alamat!!! Magiliw loves you now girl!! Hopefully you’ll get notice by Alamat management and feature to their socmed..
Thank you so much for this reaction and for the support to our boys. 🤎😊By the way, I can’t stop smiling when I heard you sing along to the song ☺️ Your tagalog accent is so good! 🤎
I always comment this: Alamat are ambassadors and educators, so basically Magiliws are students of Alamat. With its viewers, including Filipinos and non-Filipinos, Alamat hopes to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Filipino heritage and culture. They are getting ready for a school performance in this MV. The story and lyrics are about longing for the girl even though she doesn’t see the guy just yet. The reason the girl in the music video continued in the unhealthy relationship was that she didn't see her value herself in the same way that Alamat does. The girl chose her abusive and manipulative boyfriend at the end of the video, but the lyrics say "I won't get tired," so the story doesn't really end there because the guy is still waiting. The culture of the Maranao people is being showcased here. (Maranao means "lake people"). All of the performers have a story, but this MV only focuses on the Royal Princess and Prince. When translated to English, the lyrics of Alamat's songs may appear to be ordinary (e.g Queen and King), but in actuality, they often use rare and archaic Tagalog words (e.g Maharani, Lakambini, and Lakan) that are not commonly understood by many Filipinos today. 1. The guy in the motorcycle is Migo Valid, a singer-songwriter and actor under Viva Entertainment. 2. The girl is from the girl group BINI, Jhoanna Robles. 3. Jhoanna’s headdress is called a Sarimanok, a legendary bird from Maranao culture. (Sari - different colors, Manok - rooster/hen) 4. The outfits’ designs are influenced by illustrations from the late sixteenth century Boxer Codex which show how prior to Spanish colonization, gold was lavishly used by the archipelago’s various ruling classes in their clothing. (From Alamat’s post) 5. Their neckties have the Maranao weaving patterns. 6. Their group choreo and music is highly influenced by Singkil. 7. Dance: There are different kinds of Singkil, in this MV it is about courtship. It is considered one of the most golden Filipino dances, and is performed as a ritual for festivals and ceremonial rites of passage by young Maranao women, particularly of noble blood, to showcase their eligibility and agility for marriage. The word "singkil" means "to twist the feet with disturbing objects."
I love love love your reaction! I also love how you talked about your exposure to Filipino culture and appreciating it. I am Filipino American, born and raised here for 65 years among a Filipino American community. Our parents chose not to teach us their languages, which makes me sad, but the funny thing is that we were all taught Filipino folk dances from elementary school through high school. I got excited when I saw the singkil and tinikling being danced in the video, as we had learned those dances and others and had performed them at different events through the years-such wonderful memories. I think it’s important to choose to learn about your heritage, and also the cultures of other people. I am so glad you love P-Pop groups. I am your new subscriber from Maryland USA, and I’m going back to watch your other reactions❤

I know this would take time so I understand if you wont accept my request. Nevertheless, thank you so much for reacting to Ppop, Sis!
