When the first came out they had some teething issues like idler bearing covers, carpet floor switch arms breaking and belt tracks melting on the plastic brushrolls. Most of that was taken care of over time with revisions, so by the end of their run they were fairly reliable. I think my preference is still for the non self-propelled units, but that may just be due to the amount of the SP units I repaired back in the day.
I would like to get a non self propelled version. I personally think the self propelled just makes the machine a lot heavier. In my opinion the self propelled is not necessary.
Your video was helpful. My Hoover windtunnel must be older. I bought it at a thrift store 15 years ago. I just replaced the wider belt, you made that easy for me. Your tip on the smaller V-belt was interesting. I must have the ABS brush-holder with a white plastic disk with the slot for the V-belt. The V-belt is in like-new condition but is loose in the brush holder slot. I added some narrow strips of duct tape in the groove as a temporary fix. If necessary I with replace the brush-holder with the wooden one you suggested. 😊👍. I wanted to add a photo of my vacuum; it would be good for a chuckle. It’s a workhorse of a machine. I’m in my late 70’s and still enjoy tinkering.
It could be the v-belt slipping due to a worn-out track. Also, if the motor post for the rubber belt had burned rubber on it that wasn't removed, that could make it smells as well. Hope that helps!
Hello from Ohio. I have the blue anniversary edition and have taken good care of it over the years. One thing that it inconsistent is the Green/ Red "clean/dirty " light. I know the flat sound sensor cover inside the hose hook up needs to be cleaned but are you aware of any other steps? The reason I ask is the red light sometimes takes forever to go out even when your not rolling the unit over a dirty area. Thanks!
Not sure if you are even still on here or not but I need a new brush roll as the groove is so deep that the bely is not even snug let alone tight enough to turn the brush roll.
Hi Nick! If the v-belt is recessed all the way around the brushroll evenly, that is typically a sign that the belt is worn on the sides. I would replace the belt first... it should fit more flush.
The Anniversary Wind Tunnel has been my favorite vacuum since the first one I bought years ago. I am very sad that they no longer make it. My motto was “I always buy Hoover … because Hoover Sucks.” Now they suck for a different reason because the current crop is a far cry from the former. I have two Anniversary Wind Tunnels on which I have not locked up the motor yet. Belt changing and cleaning I can handle. I have one that still sucks but the brush mechanism has locked. We use it for vacuuming our car. I really miss that model. It pulled more dirt than a dump truck. I used to tell my Shark friends I needed a machine that stood in the middle of the room and mustered all the dirt in the room to get in formation and march into the machine. That’s what my Wind Tunnels did. The new stuff, not so much!
I just got through working on one of these. The video was wonderful, as-in you actually knew what you were talking about. When I was working on this vacuum, which had been previously smoking, I kept thinking the design was dumb. A plastic wheel acting as sort of a clutch for loosening or tightening a v-belt connected to the agitator. the main belt and connection of the v-belt continues to spin? I reassembled this machine with the new belts but it is noisey. Like belt slap maybe. These are the correct belts. I’m wondering if the agitator slot is too worn, causing too much slack in the v-belt. My moms machine is 14 years old though.
Thanks for watching and commenting! The noise you are experiencing could be a couple of things... it might be where the v-belt ride on the brushroll. Sometimes when these start to wear they are no longer round but slightly egg shaped. That can makes some noise. Another thing to check is the condition of that idler pulley under the v-belt. Those are really cheap bearings and it might just be making noise with age. Hope that helps!
Hi there. I am trying to figure out what’s wrong with my HWT. According to your video, Sounds like I may need to replace brush roller with wood roller because the indent ion for the vbelt does look worn. I am having trouble seeing the exact correct placement of the vbelt on your video. Is there anywhere I can find closeup photos of the placement
It's hard in today's world of corporate amalgamations to know what company is still making quality items. That's why I really like privately owned companies who make appliances... much less likely to cut quality to please shareholders. Miele, Sebo and Riccar all fall into this category... unfortunately, Hoover is now owned by TTI out of Hong Kong and they are just not the same. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm trying to fix my grandma's older windtunnel...it is a single belt system. Ordered one from Amazon from the part # on the bottom, but it's too short. I used the exact # on the bottom, so idk what else to do. Do you have belts?
We do carry the belts, but my guess is you already have the right one. The number on the belt should end with 035. If it appears small than the old one it is because the old one has stretched out and lost it's elasticity. The new belt can be anywhere from 1-1.5 inches smaller due to that stretching. If you are having trouble installing it, try heating it up with a hair dryer first. That will make it more malleable and it should go right on. Thanks!
I’m in the UK and have an American windtunnel It’s one of the last ones made I think it’s the UH60010 I love it but it needs a new brushroll. Hoover won’t send one over to me. Not impressed at all. Would I be able to order one from you and have it sent over, we had a few maytag windtunnels available over here but there’s no spares available now Regards from Dave in eastbourne East Sussex UK xx
Hi Dave, thanks for watching! I would be happy to arrange for a brushroll to be shipped to you. Based on your model number I'm assuming you have the plastic brushroll in your machine. All of those have been superseded by a wood brushroll that will actually give improved resistance to wear. If you would like to order one, shoot me an email at hov@thehouseofvacs.com. Thanks!
You should at least clean up your customer's Machines! Always clean the drive shaft with Acetone to make the Belt last longer. It's just a damn Vacuum Cleaner. Do the job right in my opinion and clean it up!
Thanks for watching and your comment. As I have stated in my previous videos, every customer is given the option to have their machine serviced (fully cleaned) at check-in. If they do not want that, we will only fix the problem at hand. They are OK with it, I am OK with it, you should be OK with it. I will happily clean the whole vacuum, but I do need to be paid for my time. Also, cleaning the motor shaft is only necessary when the old belt has left burnt rubber residue. In this case, the belt had not left any residue... meaning you would be cleaning an already clean surface, so.... I'm not really sure what you are getting at here. Cheers!
Yeah, the T-series isn't horrible, I just don't trust Hoover's parent company TTI to keep parts available. I think even buying a decent Hoover these days puts a clock on how long you can effectively keep it. Time will tell...
Yup, that's for sure! Bags and belt aren't usually an issue... I'm more concerned about handle locks, idler pulleys, brushrolls etc. becoming obsolete.
@@HouseOfVacuums I wouldn’t be surprised if Hoover stops making them at an certain point. It’s like anything else these days. Shark is terrible even 1-2 years old I had an hose crack and they didn’t sell them.
@@HouseOfVacuums At least on my Shark. (I know but it still works) It’s an off the self automotive Gates belt. I want to replace it with an higher end Bissell at some point.
Great video
Thanks!
What’s your opinion on these Hoovers. I personally like them a lot.

I love Hoover. Best vacuum ever.
Glad it's working out for you. Cheers!
Great video I have that same vacuum cleaner
I did something similar but smelt a burning smell on the belt. Either i didnt get the right belt or i did something wrong.

@@HouseOfVacuums Maybe. My hoover wind tunnel self-propelled was made February of 1999.
How o I change the belt on modelU5095-930 series B 7.2?
Can you help me?
Oh wow, that's an oldie! Here is a video that walks you through how to change it on a very similar model:

it's has such powerful suction, it propel but it's heavy.
They are indeed good cleaners!

Yes, if you google "self propelled windtunnel belt change" there are a few photos that will likely help.
The last good hoover before everything went downhill
TTI's ownership of the brand was certainly the final nail in the coffin.
Can you try to do a video every week
Sometimes life gets in the way, but I certainly try.
