Thank you so much!!! You are the first person to actually reallly explain how to cut/deadhead roses for more blooms.. I ruined all 8 of my knock roses a few years back because I didn’t know how to trim them correctly. I planted 3 new roses bushes in another area (thinking it was the area they were in, (although both are in sunny locations) but now that Ive watched your video and I’m about to go deadhead properly!!!!!! I can’t wait to see them bloom more roses for me!

Of course, I enjoyed another one of your educational videos. Do you know I’ve had roses since 1999, and I’ve been doing it all wrong all those years. I didn’t dead head, I was chopping up my bush. You see, your videos are so very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I always enjoy them.

Laura, I'm fairly new to being able to enjoy and play int the yard full time. I have 1 acre in the back yard just waiting for me and have so much to learn. I would never have known where to start without your help. So grateful for your teachings in everything about gardening, all aspects of it .I love all the knowledge you provide. Best video I've ever seen on rose's. This will be my first year of trying to prune/deadhead correctly as you demonstrated. I am addicted to watching the video's old and new, then wanting to try out what I've learned .
Thank you from all of us who are "just beginning".

Omg thank you for this video. My bf gave me a mini rose for Valentine's Day (because they will last longer than a bouquet and also because we've been wanting to get some houseplants). The only trouble is, I never learned how to care for roses! My grandfather had rose bushes while I was growing up, so I know sometimes they can look dead but then grow back beautifully and so began my RUclips video quest. Your video was the first I came across that got right into what I needed to know - how to prune roses. And you explain why you do it a certain way! I love knowing the "why" behind a "how." So again, thank you for the video! I hope you are still active on RUclips, as I have just subscribed thanks to this informative video!

Vicki Zeimen Hello! Thanks for watching our videos! :) Your climbing rose may not be blooming for various reasons- one is not fertilizing. Roses need a high phosphorus fertilizer (I like Espoma RoseTone). Apply according the directions (I usually feed mine 3-4 times per season). It may also stop blooming if it's undergoing any kind of drought, so make sure it's getting enough water. It may have something to do with the rejuvination pruning you gave it last fall, too. It may just need some time to build up enough energy to bloom. I usually only prune up my climbing roses to shape, cutting out any dead canes and shaping it up nicely- I rarely cut them all the way back. Hope that helps! :) ~Laura

I am an educated and academic person...do not think less of me...I researched what and how to care for them. Your video somehow clarified for me the natural process of the growth pattern of the rose. I am so excited to learn more from all your videos! Thank you for your video and the abundance of useful information you freely share and clearly demonstrate. I have knowledge-based hope now! Yay!!! When I moved into this bungalow, there where a lot of unhealthy, unhappy roses. Now I’m not a rose plant person, I don’t choose a rose for planting. I don’t know why probably because they need care. However I didn’t want to dig up a dozen rose bushes out. So the last few years I have been treating them them with uncle toms rose tonic to help with black spot. Which was rife on all the roses. They had an extreme prune in December the year i moved here, and have continued with a good prune each year, a good feed throughout the year.they are looking much healthier but I’m no expert so having watched this I now know the 5leaf rule. And how to get the rose to flower outward. Thank you I will make sure this new knowledge is put to good use.

Great presentation as always. I love David Austin's and Heritage Roses. Wish you would do a special on them. I use a liquid system drench that helps combat mildew, black spot and bugs. Wish they would come out with a systemic drench to deter deer. Spraying is a pain.

About 5yrs ago, I decided to "adopt" my parents unproductive anniversary Rose in our garden, which was essentially 2 very sorry looking sticks in the ground.. neither parent is a gardener and so it just kinda sat there year after year doing nothing..
2 rounds of cutting back *hard* and 3 seasons of (mostly) unhindered growth have left us with a 6.5ft tall bush, kempt and spacey, with _multiple_ stems.
Produced some flowers the last few years (bloomed all year, last year) - but this year's first bloom has *22* beautiful, fat, white roses on it and is *covered* in new, young buds
Its looking a bit "leggy" now, with some stems starting to lean, so just back to refresh the pruning do's and don't's before cutting back again at the end of the season
I have next to no idea what I'm doing and I've managed (with the help of people like you) to grow something truly beautiful.. don't doubt yourselves! Get out there and start planting! ❤

It'd help a lot if you introduced some such roses that can grow well in pots, especially antique style ones and in light, pale colours (like in old floral still life paintings). The one in this video is not like that but very lovely as well.

What size containers do you need for roses? Plus, are plastic better or ceramic pots for arid climates?

Thanks so much. I am about to deadhead some roses and thought I should check what you said first.

great video. What do you do if you hit a "blind wood" or the wood that does not bloom any more. will cutting it down a bit help?

Wow! I can't believe how windy it gets there. We'll pull and pray for you, and all planted seeds will make it 🙏.
