This is perfect. "When you sacrificed yourself for others, you were hers but when you kicked ass, you were mine." I feel like this video and that line perfectly describes their relationships with Xena. Thank you for this beautiful video!
Here's another thing. I think both the relationships are important for Xena. She needs the light so that she can redeem herself, and do a lot of good, and redeem others. But it has to be tempered with some dark, too, so that she is never weak or lost and can always kick ass. Some occasional trouble will always be good for her. Xena needs Gabrielle to redeem herself with all the goodness, and she needs Ares to keep her on her toes with some darkness. Ares says it best in his line, "when you sacrificed yourself, you were hers, but when you kicked ass, you were mine." In fact, if there is ever a reboot (I wish it), I wish they will explore this bi-amorous relationship of Xena. It will at the very least generate a lot of interest, especially now that it's 2018, and people aren't very judgy or touchy about such things like they were in 1990s. And the "love triangle", sexual tension, will they won't they, etc will attract the audience, too. And, the "War and Peace" sequence and the slow tango sequence, "Come melt into me", from the musical episode "Bitter Suite", just need to be there in the reboot. They're just too important and too good to be lost in time. Even in this video, the "Melt into me" scene looked really hot. Finally, Ares could have been the one for her. He was starting to become that, when she died. Permanently. It's the one scenario I would have preferred apart from the one I already mentioned above. (It can even be a friendship with Xena and Gabrielle and a romance/love with Ares and Xena. The light and dark thing being good for Xena will work even then.) Oh well. Also, if there is a reboot, who will replace Kevin as Ares? He had the charm, the swagger, the very good looks and was very sexy and seductive in his role.
THANK YOU for making a video involving all three of these characters :) It seems like everyone else just picks a side in the love-triangle, but I really like both relationships with Xena. I think the interesting contrast between the Xena/Ares darker relationship and Xena/Gabrielle lighter relationship is overlooked a lot because of the conflict between shippers. There's an even more interesting aspect that I only just realised after watching this video when comparing the two ships - Gabrielle's role in redeeming the darker parts of Xena in the earlier seasons is then carried on in Xena's role in redeeming the darker parts of Ares in the later seasons. I think that's a really cool sign of Xena's character development over the show, going from the one being redeemed to the redeemer, and it creates an interesting contrast between the pairings. Basically, Gabrielle/Xena/Ares is my OT3, and I want to thank you for creating a video that points out the cool stuff in it.
Fifi Mercer wow, no, thank YOU so much for leaving such a nice comment :) you're right, it seems like there's a need to choose one ship or the other, but I enjoy watching the differences between them, how their relationship and Xena's personality changes with time, thanks to Gabrielle's influence :)

It will at the very least generate a lot of interest, especially now that it's 2018, and people aren't very judgy or touchy about such things like they were in 1990s. Everytime I see the dynamic of these three I imagine Ares singing "Girl Crush" with Gabrielle being 'the girl'. This song it was made for them!😆 "🎵I want her long blond hair I want her magic touch Yeah, 'cause maybe then You'd want me just as much"
Fantastic video on that love triangle. I'm not a fan of the Xena Ares relationship, but I do like seeing the contrast between her relationship with Ares and her relationship with Gabrielle. Ares is abusive and manipulative. Gabrielle, however, truly loves Xena, and Xena truly loves her.
@@IrisOdair Nothing twisted about it, sis. Xena manipulated and toyed with Ares just as much as he did her. I think before she turned good, it was her toying with Ares, and after, it was him toying with her. But even that seems to have softened after Ares became mortal a couple of times, and really fell for Xena. And they each admit to having a thing for the other. And it becomes ambiguous, because resolution of love is usually bad for a show, coz people tend to lose interest.
Ares and Xena already had something of a past together. And he has also helped her many times even after she left her violent past. She used him and played with him, too. They aren't like common folks, coz one was a war lord and the other a war god. It's just the sort of dynamic they have together. Evident in Ares when he tells Xena "I wouldn't have it any other way" in their last episode of the timeline, and in Xena when she tells Ares the exact same thing in the very episode prior to that. They did love each other in their own way, they do admit to feelings, but mostly Xena resisted Ares because she didn't want to be seduced into the dark violent side again, so she was very apprehensive about him. If he changed, and stopped making advances based on offers, and just plain behaved nicely, they would have a chance. In fact, that's what he was doing in season 6. But unfortunately, before things could progress further, Xena died. Permanently, this time.
@@IrisOdair hey, is it possible to compile a set of videos with all of Ares appearances both in Hercules as well Xena? Just the clips, and without much of a music. It's for my Ares/KevinTod fan girl heart. And, I'm sure, that of others like me.
I'm personally a fan of Ares and Xena (God knows who can replace the amazing, sexy Kevin in a reboot), but I'm willing to compromise. Xena needs both light and dark in her. I think there can be two relationships for Xena. And that both are equally important. One with Gabrielle and the other with Ares. Of course, it can even be a friendship with Xena and Gabrielle and a romance and love with Ares and Xena. The light and dark thing being good for Xena will work even then. I think Ares' presence in the show will be very important. He is after all somebody who knows her completely. And there's a lot of potential with Ares being part of her redemption. He could be her mentor and her lover in the past. He tries many times to seduce Xena back to the dark side, after she turns good. To make her offers and promises. To make her embrace her darkness completely and to give in to the war within. But when she fights it, he is impressed with her. And then she attempts to redeem him, too, in a way that an ancient war god can be, enticing him to be more sympathetic to mortals. Until he's reduced to simply seducing her. And, the "War and Peace" sequence and the slow tango sequence, "Come melt into me", from the musical episode "Bitter Suite", just need to be there in the reboot. They're just too important and too good to be lost in time. The whole episode and the story, in fact. Also, if there is a reboot, who will replace Kevin as Ares? Though, I think Kevin Smith is pretty irreplaceable. I don't think we have a scarcity of female actors these days who play roles in which they kick ass, these days, but still, I can't think of anyone else playing Xena but Lucy Lawless.
I'm personally a fan of Gabrielle and Xena, but I'm willing to compromise :). I don't want a reboot, the show is perfect as it is.
