You are smart to pace yourself, I am not so good at remembering myself and crash and burn quite often. Hi! Just ordered one of the Silhouette kits and the gold foil! So excited to do this! I have a question. Can you coffee dye after foiling or does it come off? There has to be a way to get aged papers with gild effects, right?

Thank you so much for your kind comment and for ordering the Silhouette kits. It is exciting using gold foil for sure. And as you would be aware, it can only work with a laser printer. We have an old black and white laser printer. If you have a colour laser printer it may help to use a black and white setting. What I do to get the aged look and gold foil combined, is, I use coffee or tea stained/dyed paper which I have flattened, especially the edge that feeds into the laser printer, which can be ironed flat if need be, to stop paper from jamming, then I print an image from the kit onto of the already coffee stained paper and then I do the gold foiling. It has been awhile since I have needed to do gold foiling so I cannot remember the finer points to do your question justice, but it is worth your while to experiment and see what results you get. I think it wont come off, because laser printers do not bleed when wet, and since the gold foil is adhered to the laser toner then it should withstand a coffee dye. If some of it comes off, you can always re-foil it and put it through the laminator again. Hope that helps. Happy gold foiling and thanks again for your kind support. Wishing you the very best.

I have to admit that during the first half of your instruction I became very confused on the inkjet vs. laser printer application. At times you used the differing printers interchangeably so that I couldn't understand if the technique worked only for inkjet or laser. Love the results but the instruction was a bit muddled. So tell me, foiling will only adhere to laser printed papers using your technique?

Thanks Ruth. I know, I am hopeless. I muddle myself too...lol..!! Yes, you are right. Heat foiling will only adhere to laser printed papers, not inkjet. But with an inkjet you get the bleeding effect, when coffee or tea staining/dyeing which I call the Faded and Frayed method. Heat foiling works with a toner that is found in laser printers. Most office supply places have laser printers, and so if you only have an inkjet printer, you can print those pages out at home, then take them to an office supply place, scan and print your inkjet images, keeping them separate from the laser printed ones, and then when at home, you can hot foil with laser images to your hearts content.
Thank you for bearing with me.
