I was looking for references when building because my brother and I would mess something up, BrickVault had a good rotating shot but yeah content on this set is minimal.
I built this from assembled pieces from Bricklink and it cost around $350 including shipping. Those black quarter cylindar pieces were a good chunk of the cost. Love it on display--it has presence.
I built mine for $220 with (mostly) used bricks and used the trans black quarter cylinders which were a couple cents each (instead of $40 each). I also replaced the chrome antenna with a metallic silver one to save a couple dollars as well. I might pick up a chrome one if I can find a seller that has one with other parts I need.
This set brings back memories of Halloween for me when I was 8. I got to dress up as Darth Vader, and was super excited about it. I vividly remember ringing the doorbell of one particular house, and a guy in a full Darth Maul costume with the face paint, attached horns, and full robes came to the door. He didn’t say anything, just glared at me, slightly closed the door, opened it back up and gave me two pieces of candy, and then slowly closed the door without ever saying a word. Good thing I had the Vader mask on, as my jaw was hanging wide open the entire time. Really great Halloween memory!
I really like how your videos are becoming a little more cinematic, at least by utilizing different kinds of shots, it makes everything more interesting in a subtle way.
One thing I love about this is that it reminds me of the statues and sculptures that you’d see at Lego parks and some stores. It’v always wanted them to sell sets like that and this seems the closest. I hope they do something like that again.
I love the brick built look of this set. Which is weird- I normally like Lego sets smooth. But this just has its own weird lego vibe which I really enjoy.
As one of the biggest fans of LSW I want to be able to share that unique experience with everyone. Showing the unboxing was a must-do for me. Despite the obvious reduction in value like I just drove a new car off the lot lol
Love your channel mate. I parted out Darth Maul on bricklink and it’s one of my favourite displayed UCS sets. It now stands proudly on a glass cabinet and greets you as you open the front door of my house. Cheers Craig from Perth, Australia.
Ur coverage of these sets is a great resource to purchasers and collectors. Finding clear footage and documentation of contents of sealed sets is surprisingly hard to find. Wish we had more of these for all kinds of sub themes
Gathering the pieces together put the stuff you're going to build is something I do also, even on other modern sets. It's a great way to see if you've missed a piece because if you've got a piece left over you missed it
1:29 absolutely sent me 😂 I parted out this set in like 2015 and went the route you explained with replacing the cylinder pieces. I think back then I got the parts for under $200! A set that was way ahead of its time imo
I noticed the slower pace you took with the review and I like it. In my opinion I think on smaller reviews you should speed it up, while on larger sets you review you should keep it a bit slower paced to give all the details. Again, just my opinion, keep up the great work!!!
As a older collector I was lucky enough have started collecting In 1999 at the beginning. I nearly passed on this set and the Yoda set back then as I wasn't a fan of the sets that were not ship/locations. The darth Maul bust however didn't set well and It was reduced to a mere £25 on the then LegosShop@home. Of course this was to good of a price to pass by, so I do have It in my collection.
Congrats on finally getting it, horrendous build but very satisfying when finally done. One of my favorite sets ever!! I still want the watto bust I don’t care bring it on
Fun fact : The reason why Darth Maul has the piercing is because the makeup people on set for The Phantom Menace forgot to take the piercing out during preparation for shooting
Easily one of the coolest sets in LSW history. I’ve spent roughly 130 parting it together and getting what I can from my own collection. I’m on the last stretch… some of those older large bricks are not cheep, but it will be all worth it once I get that final order in
Im quite late but this is a fantastic review, MANDR is the only person who I enjoy watching review sets. I always take his advice and he hasn't disappointed me since I started watching him 6-7 years ago
I think you mentioned in a video recently something about a re-release or a set of similar style to classic Star Wars sets like Luke’s landspeeder. This would be a great one to have a re release or remake of
I built this set going on 10 years ago, I remember it well because of how unique the build was, very challenging. Still got him and he’s still bloody scary! Possibly the scariest Lego set of all time😱
This set looks so much better then the box art. Amazing what this set is going for today. It does seem like a very easy set to put together through Bricklink since its mostly bricks. Thanks for sharing this review
Parted this set out for about $400CAD, but used dark grey pieces for the neck cylinder as the black parts were extremely expensive. This set always stands out in a collection so I wanted it in my own but wasn’t going to pay $3k+ for it.
One of the main complaints of this set is just how creepy it is, yet Maul is represented as this demonic, terrifying figure. Honestly makes the set more appealing to me.
Other than Jyn Erso (obvious) what busts would you buy for LEGO Star Wars?
Pink Shorts Boom Guy
A qui gon one would be cool but i just like qui gon
K2-SO
Baze malbus
Cassian Andor
But honestly what a treat finally having a modern day full quality review of this set
I was looking for references when building because my brother and I would mess something up, BrickVault had a good rotating shot but yeah content on this set is minimal.
I would have to agree
Really fun story: My older cousin was absolutely terrified of this set as a kid, and had nightmares about it. I can see why.
Now this set will become alive and your cousin will play five nights at legos lol
That means it’s a good representation lol
I honestly never thought about how this set was actually kind of scary until this review. I can also see how a child could have nightmares
@@Nightwizard63 No, no no, Five Nights at Maul's.
I was scared of the never ending story the dog, the talking wall and the horse scared the crap out of me
One of my favorite and creepiest sets I own, but an absolute nightmare to build. Totally worth it though!
Hated building it too! Glad I finally experienced it…

This is one of the sets that I think will just get better with time. The retro look of it has grown on me like crazy since I was a kid/teen

There is something about the older boxes that are just awesome. Cool Review.
This ain’t one of em IMO 😂😅
This is such an underrated set, ive been meaning to part it out and build it myself
I love the brick built look of this set. Which is weird- I normally like Lego sets smooth. But this just has its own weird lego vibe which I really enjoy.
As soon as I saw him cut the tape My heart dropped😮😮😮
As one of the biggest fans of LSW I want to be able to share that unique experience with everyone. Showing the unboxing was a must-do for me. Despite the obvious reduction in value like I just drove a new car off the lot lol
Hey Ryan, you dropped this 👑
I'm sure B&W is a good colour design for a lego box, Everyone would see how eye catching its diverse colour array is!
all 50 shades of black and gray so diverse
Yes!!! Retro reviews are back!
Nothing can beat a MandRproductions review, not even Mr beast

With the 25th anniversary of the phantom menace this year, this review is just in time 👍
Bro had the balls to open the sealed Darth Maul bust
Gathering the pieces together put the stuff you're going to build is something I do also, even on other modern sets. It's a great way to see if you've missed a piece because if you've got a piece left over you missed it
Mad respect for opening this expensive Gem- just t o show us the whole experience. Thanks Ryan! :-)
I've been waiting for this!!
Now that is a Bust, that despite its age, is a perfect Lego Star Wars set.
I have a bricklinked together version of this!
Enjoyed this review more than I thought I would
That piercing detail really sells the set! Had no idea that was there till now
Congrats on getting this I know this is something you needed to have ever LEGO starwars set
Yo I literally just bought this as my Christmas gift to myself I LOVE IT
Fantastic review well worth the wait 👍🏻
Glad you think so!
5:14 its Voldemaul!!
This is awesome, also love your tip in the end.
Very smooth review. Easy to watch despite the creepy red eyes staring at you.

An absolutely beautiful Lego set. Great review (as always)!
That chrome piece on the ear is because the actor who played maul had a piercing on his ear, really cool detail
Wow this set looks absolutely beautiful!
I really wish they would do a Grievous bust for the 20th anniversary of RotS
The brickvault one looks amazing
I do like the “just imagine” at the back of the instructions for some reason
The black and white box reminds me of Premium Bandai model kits.
Me: want to buy a sealed copy of the Darth Maul bust.
The price: 3000$+
me: Fine. I will do it myself (Thanos meme)
lol! Great one XD
Wow! I had no idea I could use Rebrickable and Bricklink to do that. Thanks for the info.
Great review
such an awesome set really cool to finally see you review it
Great to see the 25th Anniversary of TPM start out with a BANG! Looking forward to seeing all of the other TPM set reviews coming throughout the year!
Hey it’s me!
Man I would've kept the box sealed and did it through bricklink just to keep it sealed in box but content is king!
Oh boy have I been waiting for this one 🫡
This is a magnificent piece for a collection.
What an awesome & rare review! Appreciate that you buy them new & let us basically experience it too! Looking forward to 75159 in 2024 😎
What's 75159?
@@TheFirstCurse1 Death Star
This set was sold for 3890$ in Russia two months ago and I know that seller have got another one, its insane.
Got mine parted out for $285, now I just need somewhere to put it
Great set keep up the good work
Thanks for making a great quality review of this. The Darth maul bust is definitely strange and would fit in nicely with my oddity collection
I noticed the slower pace you took with the review and I like it. In my opinion I think on smaller reviews you should speed it up, while on larger sets you review you should keep it a bit slower paced to give all the details. Again, just my opinion, keep up the great work!!!
Any ETA on the gunship color swap video?
I know you dont do these anymore, but you need to do a drop test for this
Need an updated darth maul bust for sure!
bought mine no box no instructions for 850 over the summer. sitting next to me on my desk now, the best Lego Star Wars set ever.
Shockingly effective. I love the eye builds. Maybe a tiny tweak to remove the teeth and it’d be dope. For the time of making it’s truly good looking.
This video cost like $4,000 in value to show a brand new unboxing. One of the hardest sealed sets to come by.
Nice review. Thanks
i would pass out if a woke up and i saw that thing on my nightstand.
That thing is bigger than I ever imagined
my dream set, ive always wanted one for my maul shrine.
Honored to be first for an all time review
Definitely an interesting concept for 2001 that's for sure
Not the review I was expecting but here we go!
Do you know why in Finland January first release sets are released on the 8th and the 11th? Anyways keep the great content up!
OMG he finally opened it! 👏👏👏 Excellent... 🍿
I was just at a Bricks and Minifigs store and saw a dude trading in a sealed copy of this set, I was astonished.

I’m gonna get junpscared every time I see that in the background of one of your videos🤣
Congrats on finally getting it, horrendous build but very satisfying when finally done. One of my favorite sets ever!! I still want the watto bust I don’t care bring it on

I love darth maul thanks for doing him
I love darth maul too
i really hope we get a remaster of this set this year
I think you mentioned in a video recently something about a re-release or a set of similar style to classic Star Wars sets like Luke’s landspeeder. This would be a great one to have a re release or remake of
Now you need the Darth Vader bust from Bricker Builds along the Maul
I built this set going on 10 years ago, I remember it well because of how unique the build was, very challenging. Still got him and he’s still bloody scary! Possibly the scariest Lego set of all time😱
My bank account would certainly get mauled if I got this
This is absolutely terrifying. They did a good job.
I would buy that water bust in a heartbeat.
The Watto bust looks tuff!
This set looks so much better then the box art. Amazing what this set is going for today. It does seem like a very easy set to put together through Bricklink since its mostly bricks. Thanks for sharing this review
If I had the money, I would absolutely get this set. All time top 50 Lego set
Thank god theres no helmet holes 😮
Parted this set out for about $400CAD, but used dark grey pieces for the neck cylinder as the black parts were extremely expensive. This set always stands out in a collection so I wanted it in my own but wasn’t going to pay $3k+ for it.
I was lucky enough to get the set (bricks & instructions only) from someone local for £350 a few years back 👌🏻
KENOBI!?!!!!!!!!!
I didn't saw the entire set until now with this video and I gotta say:
It is a pretty good and scary set of sll time
Ahh, yes. Very helpful review since I will definitely be getting this set very soon and for very little money! 😂
such a cool set
It would be awesome if Lego redid this set as part of the Helmet Collection
One of the main complaints of this set is just how creepy it is, yet Maul is represented as this demonic, terrifying figure. Honestly makes the set more appealing to me.
$3,200 is absolutely insane buddy. I really hope this video some how makes you that back… January is rough tho. GL!
Loved the video! Do you think w3 can get Maybe a Jar Jar Bust for the Phantom Menace Anniversary?
Those were Glorious times when LEGO was doing Star Wars for the very first time.
