I grew up a Red Sox fan! These were the best of Baseball times easily in all of sports! Nothing more exciting than these days and there will never be another! Couldn't tell you 1 players name on the Sox now, but everybody knew the names of all the players on both teams back then!

Same bro. I was actually a Sox and Yankees fan at the same time. Both those 01-09 teams were the best in baseball.

Its crazy how disrespectful so called "Yankee Fans" are on here at times, or better yet the non-fans who want to comment. Posada played his entire career for the Yankees, a whopping 17 YEARS. He won FIVE, not one, not two, not three, not four, BUT FIVE Championships with them. These numbers aren't all about stats or accomplishments, but a number of things. Posada was as true a Yankee player as you could have gotten.

Dude plenty, PLENTY of Yankees have won 5 World Series. I dare even say BAD players won 5. Particularly in the 1950's.
I love Love LOVE Posada. But they got a point. You really can't retire everyone. He should definitely get a plaque though

+Ehsanur Meah 4 World Series titles. The Yankees had already won a title before he joined them. Not to nitpick, but he didnt play 17 years with the Yankees. In 1995 he played one game (zero at bats). In 1996 he played in 8 games (14 at bats). 1997 he played 60 games, and would be the regular at his position from then on. It's ok to be a band wagon fan, but settle down. Been a fan of the Yankees since 1978, and I'm ok if they retire or dont retire any numbers.
Dont know why they started to get so sacred over jersey numbers. The story is they saved number 2 for Jeter since they believed he was so special, and numbers 1 through 10 are now revered on the Yankees. Shit, I remember Dale Berra wearing number 2 when he played for the Yankees. Was HE that special? Nope, its this whole new jersey number philosophy and fascination. Gimme number 99, and lets call it a day. Who cares? The number on the jersey never made the player - only the opposite.

Only a matter of time until Yankees Players are wearing triple digits. So what's the logic retire the number of any Yankee who wins a Championship number? Please that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Only members of the dynasty who belong in Monument Park are O'Neil, Jeter an Rivera. Looking forward to Johnny Damon Day.

These number retirement ceremonies are extremely dull, especially with Sterling and Kay on the field. Then there's the kissing up to the Steinbrenners. The whole concept just needs to be changed.

The Yankees retire way too many numbers. Jeter and Rivera should be the only ones from that era with their numbers retired.

No offense to Posada but I think all those people were there to see Jeter... It's a joke that Posada's number got retired. It's a joke that they retired Pettite's and Bernie's too. When is Luis Sojo day?

+NUNUTHEKILLER28 “Alfredo Acosta” KD35 no Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio were all time Yankee greats. Bernie, Posada and Pettite weren't.

+NUNUTHEKILLER28 “Alfredo Acosta” KD35 I probably forgot more about baseball then you know I'm not a hater in any which way shape or form you're probably just a typical ignorant Yankee fan who believes everything they do is great and every player that plays for them is the greatest player and the only thing you actually know about the franchise is that they won 27 World Series which is the reason you're a "fan" in the first place

+Stephen Ciccone Look at the numbers and they all deserved to be honored. If anything some older players need to get retired numbers or plaques like Lazzari.

I love how Jeter will always unintentionally steal the spotlight from anyone else. LMFAO I love and miss Jeter I'm also kinda annoyed they didn't retire arods number just because he used steroids to help heal his hip
