Patty Duke and Melissa Gilbert gave Phenomenal and Outstanding performances of these Challenging characters and Deserved the recognition and Awards they received. Well done Ladies 😢😢😢😊😊😊😊
Agree! An absolutely beautiful story of redemption and real love.
The water scene gets me every time, especially when Annie Sullivan says "She knows". It represents the struggles that individuals with disabilities like me face and the glorious triumphs we have in life when we break out of our shells and accomplish something no one ever thought possible.
Good on you! Never give up. God bless you.
I cried just watching this clip. It gets me every
time I see this.
@@maxinearnold8812 Me too!
Way to go Patty Duke for portraying both Characters 😊😊😊 You are Truly an Actress in every sense of the word embodying every aspect of the Characters you portray. R.I.P
Oh, Miss Patty Duke, you were simply brilliant
NOBODY can do Helen Keller like Patty Duke!!!!!!!!!!!
Todd Belcher and no one can do Annie Sullivan like Anne Bancroft
I do agree with both of you on this... Patty Duke plays Helen the best and Anne Bancroft plays Annie best but Patty Duke plays a darn good Annie Sullivan... Have either of you seen the 2000 version of The Miracle Worker it’s a great version and Hallie Eisenberg was only eight years old at the time just a year older than the actual Helen Keller was when the actual Annie Sullivan came in the picture as Helen’s teacher
I love this story because its fact based about an awesome lady. And any portrayal by any actors in the past or present are just beautiful in my opinion. Love Patty Duke and Melissa Gilbert ,great talent
Honestly Patty Duke did an amazing job as Anne Sullivan in this version. Including when she played Helen Keller in the 1962 version.
Patty is thee Helen keller
@@Hi-bk7vz Patty is Anne Sullivan here. Melissa Gilbert is Helen Keller.
i absolutly love this part!!!! its amazing and it makes me cry.
I prefer the amazing Patty's portrayal as the wild eyed, wild spirited feral Helen - it is not quite captured by this young actress. Anne Bancroft was so magnificent as Teacher, there was a hardness to her portrayal that lent itself beautifully to her own backstory and went a long way to explaining her approach and served to highlight how true love is sometimes a hard teacher. I prefer the original version.
Go see the original with Patty Duke.
The original was a masterpiece that captivated the hearts of just about anyone who watched it! Ann Bancroft and Patty Duke, in these original roles, will always be a hard act to beat! My sincere respect for all the actresses, who work at remaking it! I believe that even Patty Duke; who was fantastic as Helen...did not top Ann Bancroft; as teacher. They sealed these roles in their original performances!
I understand the dialogue more in this version but the intensity of the performances in the first version are gone.
my eyes its fill with tears thank you for posting this =)
Patty Duke was really talented. She could do any part and be great in it.
Thanks for uploading this classic!=)
RIP PATTY DUKE (1946-2016)
thanks i didnt have time to watch the full movie so i sticked with the highlights i needed this for my english exam
Party Duke as the teacher, but as a child she was Helen. She is a master as both.
Yo vi esta película cuando era pequeña y nunca me olvidé de la cena del agua, choré mucho y hoy estoy feliz de haberla encontrado 40 años después jajajaja.
I like all of the versions of Helen Keller. She was an amazing woman! 2019
It was beautiful it made me cry
she lost her hearing and sight at 19 months. she heard as a baby the word water. this is why she was able to say wa at the end. the word was very deep in her subconscious.
Yes, I just learned that today in an old interview with Helen & Annie. They were also showing how Helen learned to speak, I learned a lot.
18
@@atsukocottam8556 19 months not 18.Helen fell ill on february 1882 and she was born at the end of june 1880 so it makes 19 Months even if it is only a month more but when you are a toddler it counts and she maybe saw the light during february even if dimmer each day.
Melissa Gilbert was a amazing. ❤
I remember when I first watch this 25 years ago.
This is such a silly remake! OMG!
I Love Melissa Gilbert on Little House but this is just NOT the role for her. Teacher and student are the same height and student looks way too mature on this version. Terribe casting. For those who don't know, go see the ORIGINAL film of this movie... waaaay much better! Anne Bancroft played the Teacher and young Patty Duke played the student, Helen Keller. check it out! Movie title 'Miracle Worker'. Anne Bancroft won Best Actress and young Patty Duke won Best Supporting Actress Awards for these roles at the 1963 Academy Awards!
WESTIE & HAVANESE patty was 16 but short
I love melissa gilbert in little house lve watched her most of my life in that show she she was just as great as helen keller
@@macleatakirkwood6516 Yes Patty was 15 but short and Melissa gilbert is as tall as Patty.I agree this version sucks!!
I never thought that Melissa Gilbert was right for this role, either for exactly the same reason - she was too old for the part !
anna banncroft playe teacher hallen killer miracle worker
Interesting observations, Mark; thanks for sharing.
I actually like this one. No offense to anyone. Must be because I'm a big fan of Melissa Gilbert ❤
Me too, I’ve watched them both but this is my favourite😊
The 1962 version directed by Arthur Penn (who would later direct Bonnie and Clyde) was one of the most perfectly realized adaptations of a stage play to film. This reduces it to an episode of "Little House on the Prairie." What a desecration of a great film.
wow!!! over the top acting on both parties!!!!! powerful and moving movie
For those of you who keep saying that Melissa Gilbert was too old for this part, you all need to do your research and keep your Patty Duke bias to yourselves. Patty Duke was 16 years old when she played Helen Keller in '62...Melissa Gilbert was 15. So none of you naysayers have an argument.
She was 14 years old AND unlike Melissa Gilbert, looked younger than her age.
🥺🥺🥺😭 siempre me emociona cuando al final aprende
Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880. She was a great baby, but she was sick, when she was 19 mounth old. Of the Rest of her life, she was deafblind. Helen Keller dies on June 01, 1968, at the age of 87
beautiful.
finally i'm not alone!!!
Esta foi a cena mais marcante para mim
Everyone on here blasting this and saying it is so terrible. Yeah, if any of you can act any better. Melissa Gilbert acted the same way Patty Duke did in the earlier 1962 movie. So what if they were both older than the real Helen Keller at this time of learning in her life. Do you really think they could have come up with an actual 6 or 7 year old in Hollywood to play this difficult part? Get real people and stop being so damn critical because the actors are only doing what the directors, producers, and writers are telling them and portraying the characters as best as their research will allow. Ok ok, you all think the first one is better. Ok we get it. But it doesn't mean this one is total crap. Why can't you all just enjoy the movie and appreciate the acting for what it is? Not every movie can be perfectly made and flawless. Your expectations are too high people! Amazing how critical everyone on here is, but the reality is that NONE of you so called experts could do any better. So... just be quiet, and try to enjoy this.Yes, I think the first movie is better as well, but I still think this is wonderful because I am not expecting perfection like most of you.
Oooohhh - Dr. Pulaski from Star Trek is playing Helen's mom...
Anne Bancroft and Patty duke were lightning in a bottle.no reproduction compares to the rawness of their performance.
They both gave a masterclass in acting.
Wonderful ! I hope to see this in full length someday ! The life of Helen Keller seems amazing, I want to find out more:)
1962 is better
1994 Disney Channel remake is also ~OK.
In that one, the actress of Helen is closest to her actual age when Sullivan started teaching her
@@mrj.kottari8453but 2000 Is better
She did a really good job in that movie but I still like the original best as Patty Duke played Helen. That is my favorite version so far. I have that on DVD too but I'm glad they do make newer versions of the life of Helen Keller. People should learn about her and Annie's life, etc. :)
Heidi
Hermosa película
Like how annie look almost the same in 3 different movies i watched
Wonderful ending!
She is massively tall for someone who was 7 at the time.
Lol
She should at least cut her hair short.
That is because Melisa Gilbert was born in 1964. That makes her 15 years old when this film was made. I think the acting was great but she was really too tall to play a girl half her age.
The teacher had Patience
It's astonishing how much Patty resembled Anne Bancroft in this role.
I think it is actually funny how the family continues to ramble on about those good old days. And they ignore Helen. But there is Annie on top of it all. :)
The tense is gone from the first version.. eventhough i can clearly understand their dialogue this time
I prefer the 2000 version. That little girl was a natural artist...
The best one here was Duke.. For me, she and only she outshines anyone as far as the Keller movies go. This didn't have the backing of a wholly outstanding cast the way the Duke as Helen production did. It made Helen too candy-coated, I thought. Duke's gave a much truer portrail of the tyrant child Helen Keller was. ~Imagine the fire inside her.. a brilliant child, trying to communicate from within a dark, silent world~ I'D be a tyrant, TOO!
I LOVE Hellen
The actress playing Helen looks like a teenager.
Jimmy taking a stand was a great development in his character. Throughout the play, he acted immature up until this moment
I feel terrible that Patty Duke, finally getting to play the part of Anne Sullivan, couldn't have been in a better rendering of the story she originally did--as Helen, to perfection--than this!
I'm disappointed by the performance of Patty Duke. She was a better Helen Keller than Annie Sullivan.
And for those who say that Melissa Gilbert did the same as Patty Duke: not at all. There are similarities, but her performance is less powerfull than Patty (in my opinion)
fully agree
That is so very true. Also Melissa Gilbert look a lot older than 6 years old, which is how old Helen Keller really was when Anne Sullivan came to be her teacher.
true, she put anne through the most strenuous workout
All in all it was nice to see it come full circle...with Patty growing up and taking on the other role!
I have to agree with you on that one.
I prefer Hallie Eisenburg in the 2000s remake
Helen keller is amazing
I personally think the one with Hallie Eisenberg as Helen Keller is the best one. I know it is newer than the two that came before but I prefer it because one the color pallet was gorgeous two the actress looks to be around the age of six years old same age as Helen when she started and three Patty and especially Melissa looked way too old to play the part of Helen. They might have been better as older Helen’s but as young Helen’s nope
by the way, Patty was actually just barely 15 when this movie was made. It premiered in May 1962 and she turned 16 that Dec. Wa wa was the only word Helen knew before going deaf at 19 mths.
youd be surprised to learn what else she learned to say. she learnt to speak like you and me through vibrations that occurs when we talk on our lips, nose and throat area.
i know its hard to be a special edaucation teacher it take one secret it COURAGE and patience..
I prefer 1962, btw this story is extraordinary.
In comparison to the original classic, The Miracle Worker, {of 1962}, this is a ridiculous remake, mediocre at best. In comparison to much of Melissa Gilbert's following ventures into adult acting, it's not bad. Patty Duke, for her outstanding portrail of Helen in the gritty, earthy, and haunting motion picture, deserved a far finer production than a tv send-up. Sorry Melissa~:-s
Melissa Gilbert it is way too old for this part.
Who cares if she was tall at the time this movie was filmed? And too old?! If you were really serious in your "critique" then you'd realize that Melissa Gilbert was 15 when she portrayed Helen; and Patty Duke was 16... So who was too old? Don't be a hypocrite. You can't complain about one and not the other. Your point is moot.
You mean that not one remake has every been better than the original in your opinion. I thought that this remake was well done. In fact, as a child, I saw this version first before I even knew that there was an eariler version. I didn't see the original until a few years later. They're both good...so was the other remake done in 2000.
hey its laura ingalls!
VERRY BEUATIFUL R.I.P. HELEN K.
Annie is absolutely correct
It's Doctor Polaski from Star Trek TNG 😮
WATER HELEN, WATER!! hahahaha
I'd never seen this movie. This is inspirational, even though it's unrealistic. Melissa Gilbert needed to put more research in to the material that she would be portraying. Melissa Sue Anderson portrayed being blind better then Gilbert did. Blind people are not spasmatic like Gilbert portrayed obviously.
she was also deaf, essentially locking her up in an isolation nobody understood how to handle, at least before Annie Sullivan came along. Helen's wild, uncoordinated & violent behaviour resulted from that total disconnect;
how was she supposed to act? Miss Sullivan's devotion was in itself a miracle.
Helen was mean but when she gets to the pump it works for Annie and Helen
She spelled water wrong hahaha
I love Patty McCormack and would love to see her portrayal of Helen.
I like both movies equally. I find it very interesting to compare the two version and how the actresses interpret their roles. There was actually an earlier version on TV before the '62 movie with Patty McCormack portraying Helen.
The nicest movie about Hellen Keller is the one from Disney (2000).
Diana Muldaur reigns!❤
You are thinking of the original with Patty Duke playing Helen Keller. This is a re-make with Melissa Gilbert playing Helen Keller. I have the original on DVD and it is black and white. I do wish they would colorize it but oh well. lol. :)
Heidi
Can't believe how some people think that this girl did exactly as Patty Duke. Patty was funny as Helen and very strong mentally and physically for her age. And if some people question if anyone else can do better, well HELLO, ANYONE can!!
Acting is easy for practically anyone. 5 year olds and BABIES act now! It's no big challenge. How do I know this? Cuz I'm a born actress. I don't go around saying it's hard and very complicated to understand cuz it ain't. Acting is simply pretending to be like someone else. This version had no feeling, or emotion. That's why it's not good. Everyone sounded like robots when they were saying their lines. That's really sad considering Patty alReady went thru these lines. Please, don't anyone say that you doubt anyone could do better cuz practically ANYONE can act!
Lori Wolfcat You know why there's no emotion or feeling, and everybody is sounding like robots? Because acting isn't easy.
Hellen Keller should know how to use a napkin properly instead of throwing it down on the ground fighting is useless. Karen Lehr
Melissa Gilbert is exactly the same age in this as Patty Duke was when she played the part did the original film.
Only Patty Duke was a short girl and Melissa was a tall girl. It seems weird that this 7 year old nearly towers over her teacher.
The one from 2000 is way better
Does it matter if she wouldnt have understood at this stage when all that really mattered was that she was learning to communicate? I think that would be something to celebrate whether or not she did understand full sentences. It's like when a child SPEAKES their first words, she's still speaking, just in a different way. I think you need that this was a big moment in her life and is not something to criticize.
Helen es Laura de la familia ingalls
And so is the real Helen Keller and the real Annie and but the real Miracle worker is Jesus of Nazareth the Son of the Living God and the only true Saviour and true giver of eternal life. Amen. It was through this beautiful woman that Jesus Healed Helen from within and just by reading up on the real Helen and wow you too would be so amazed by what all this woman has achieved and even in her personal videos the real Helen you too would be like I said amazed .
No puedo tomar enserio a Laura Ingalls 😂
This would be much more believable if Melissa wasn't as tall as Patty. She was like 15 when they filmed this?
Hard to see her as Helen when the girl was 8 or 9 in real life back when the events shown in these movies took place.
And back in 1890s children were averagely not was tall as nowdays or late 1900s
Well it is too bad to be blind and can’t hear Hellen Keller. Karen Lehr
I like this version (even though the original was much better), this version isn't all that bad
But the new version is far great 👍
0:42
The actress playing Helen looks much older than 7....
@LadyMisfitAngel That's because they are both based on the same stage play.
What bothers me about this version is that Helen Keller is supposed to be a little girl around 6, I think. Mellisa Gilbert is too old for the role or maybe just too TALL!!! The other problem is Patty Duke is a short woman!! It justs looks so wrong!!!!
That's what I said! They are both good actresses. It is not the age problem. It is just Mellissa its too tall to play a 7 year old. Maybe if Patty was a taller woman it would look ok.
Mute people can still make sounds.
I dont see how this is bad acting.. She did really well! Not the best remake but definitely not bad!
I too like Melissa Gilbert. I have watched all the episodes of Little House of the Prairie a thousand times. When I saw clippings of this version of Helen Keller, I didn't like it one bit!!! The real Helen Keller when she met Miss Annie was 6 years old. Melissa Gilbert was too old to play Helen Keller. I only seen the one that Allison Elliott and Hallie Kate Eisenberg played in.
I probably need to see the one with Patty Duke in it. I do like Patty Duke.
