Look, there are pineapple pizza people and there are non-pineapple pizza people. I happen to think pineapple is THE BEST pizza topping other than plain cheese. Other toppings I like are black olives, banana peppers, feta cheese, and ricotta cheese. Each works solo on a pizza. The sweetness of the pineapple especially works with the sweetness of the tomato sauce and the saltyness of the cheese. I’ve often wondered if other fruits like diced peaches would work as well but have never seen them. Pizza toppings vary around the world. In South America, green peas on pizza are a thing, and I would love those. In certain countries, maybe Australia, eggs on pizza exist. Sounds good to me. It’s time to end the pineapple pizza hatred forever before you start to come off anti-Hawaiian! Film some video of you eating and enjoying a massive slice of pineapple pizza!!

I'm back to watch this video for the third time.
I never expected my appreciation for these shows to grow so many years after first watching them as a teenager. It's one of the highlights of my month when one of your videos drops.

Angel buying his way back into Cordelia's good graces is seriously on of my favorite moments from this show. No matter how much she grows, she's still our Cordy.
A great subversion of a potential dragged out story arc of Angel regaining trust and friendship with Cordy.
Cordy had already forgiven Angel, the clothes were just the perfect excuse for her to express that he had been forgiven. This episode is actually about Cordy learning to sympathize with Angel through Harmony. She's basically in the same situation with Harmony as Angel was with Darla. She was trying hard to redeem someone whom she once shared a connection with, to the point of bordering on denial and it ended in disaster. In short, the clothes weren't the reason why she forgave Angel. Harmony did that by making Cordy understand what Angel was going through leading up to the point when he fired them. I'm quite surprised that this wasn't really touched on in this video.

"I could've told you she wasn't a virgin" beats this one, plust a couple of his one-liners when he discovers his love of ballet IMHO, but this is definitely up there in the top tier IMHO.

I like the scene where Gunn meets Harmony. He goes from flirting with her to immediately hating her once he finds out shes a vampire.

I love the look of pure delight on angel's face when cordy's revelling in her new clothes. It's just so pure, elative and funny, like 'yes the clothes work she likes me again'. To make it more poignant I honestly feel like it's the happiest we ever see angel, like we almost never see him smile quite that wide
Props to Fury's script, of course, but Mercedes McNabb is truly underrated as a comic actor.
Agreed. I snorted my drink out of my nose when the doctor they were trying to force to remove Spike's chip told her she couldn't smoke there, she goes "Says who?" And then when the doctor points at the no-smoking sign immediately apologizes while putting out her cigarette. 😂
There's an important element that I think you may have missed. Contrary to the title, this episode isn't about Harmony, it's actually about Cordy understanding why Angel went dark. She's basically placed in the same situation with Harmony as Angel was with Darla. She was trying hard to redeem someone whom she once shared a connection with, to the point of bordering on denial and her efforts ended in disaster. By the end, she understands why Angel went to the lengths that he did to help Darla, which helped close the rift in their relationship. In short, the clothes were not the reason why Cordy forgave Angel, she had already learned to forgive him throughout the course the episode. The clothes were just the perfect excuse for her to express that she had forgiven him.
I never thought of it this way. Thank you!
I've only seen Angel once, but that shot of Angel grinning and JUMPING UP AND DOWN alongside Cordelia as she gushes about him buying her new clothes is a solid contender for my favourite scene in anything ever
I’d actually forgotten that, since I watched Angel before watching Buffy, this episode was my introduction to both Harmony AND Willow...
I realize at the start of *_Angel_* that *Cordypants* was pretty close to her characterization in _Fubby._ But I imagine it still must've been wacky to suddenly see what amounts to an incredibly vain and shallow two-dimensional *Cordy* after her final appearance in season 5's, _"You're Welcome."_ 😏
Harmony and Angel are the only characters who were in the first ep of Buffy and the last ep of Angel.
@Sam Gonzalez Wow, what a unique intro to the Buffyverse. What was your impression of the Buffy show after watching Angel? Did you kinda expect Buffy to be a little cray, dramatic, or overbearing after seeing her appearances on Angel? Thoughts on Spike?
@@energymaven7537 BtVS definitely had a much different feel to it than Angel, not a bad atmosphere but I wouldn’t have made it through season one without the drive to know the origins and background of Angel. By season two, I had started to like Buffy in its own right.
Buffy the character was a different story. She’s essentially two characters in my mind, one for Buffy and one for Angel because she came across as really unlikeable based on her Angel episodes and that was too hard to separate out.
In The Dark was a pretty perfect introduction to Spike. His charisma’s palpable from the first line and he was instantly a character I was looking forward to seeing more of.
Angel: I've tried not to say anything. Tried to take a step back and let things sort themselves out but Harmony cannot work with us.
Cordelia: I know. It's just temporary. I mean, look at her. Shes really loving this. It's giving her a reason to go on.
Angel: I don't want her going on. Neither should you. Shes the enemy.
Cordelia: Now you sound like Wesley.
Angel: Because he's right. Harmony will turn on you.
Codelia: Why? Because you did?
Angel: Because it's her nature. She's a vampire.
Cordelia: So are you!
Angel: She doesn't have a soul.
Cordelia: Oh! Thats it, is it? You're better than her because you have a soul?
Angel: Well yeah.
Cordelia: I noticed yours didn't get in the way of betraying the people who work with you, who cared about you.
And, you know, you didn't just betray me Angel. You didn't just hurt me. You gave away my clothes.
Angel: To the needy.
Cordelia: I am the needy!
Do you know how scared I was you were on your way to becoming Angelus again? Imagine what could have happened if you'd gone nuts and slept with Darla.
Angel: You know I would never do that.
Followed by David Boreanaz looking directly into the camera
Your point about Harmony needing someone to follow and to give her validation gave me some wonderful insight into why her story ends the way it does in Not Fade Away.
It also helps explain why she's changed so little as a vampire - she doesn't appear to have any ambitions beyond being popular and following someone cooler and more assertive than she is, so the vampire curse/demon had basically nothing to work with for her new personality. Being a bitchy high school mean girl's sidekick or a more competent villain's lackey is about as evil as she's capable of being.
There's no one else like Harmony Kendall. She's a truly special vampire and similar to Darla, adds an interesting wrinkle to the soul canon. Also, she fits so well on this, especially with the themes of the show and provides the perfect amount of levity
I agree that she’s special, and I think she’s better as a vampire than as a human, but I don’t think she’s like Darla. Darla was a leader, not a follower. She was also a schemer, which Harmony was not. Harm could probably make a nail appointment, but not lead a pack of Angelus, Dru, and Spike. Her “minions” didn’t even respect her.
Definitely, it’s vamps like Harmony and Spike (even that young teen vamp Dawn had a short dalliance with) that fuels my interpretation that buffyverse vampires’ humanity situation is a spectrum, not solidly just beholden to soul and no-soul.
harmony is such a fun character, one of the better side characters that get brought back
Angels happy dance at the end of the ep is one of my favorite moments in the whole series 😂
Along with Wesley's pissed off face.
The bit in Cordy's apartment where Angel is supportive of keeping Harmony around just to get into Cordelia's good graces, while Cordy stares at him like he's grown a second head and Wesley slowly puts the crossbow back up---that gets me every time.
Harmony's episodes are definitely some of my favorites when i just want to watch a solo ep and not remember all the plot points with the bonus that everyone gets to do their comedic acting
Cordie's joy over her new clothes will never not put a smile on my face. No wonder it was in the Angel opening for a while. It's probably not that deep, but it's just so fun to see her unfettered joy despite all the darkness she has to face daily. The true hallmark of a queen!
Cordelia pulling out a second crossbow on Harmony was badass. Cordelia channeling her inner John Woo.

Harmony's one of my favorite characters, I'm glad the heroes keep letting her go because then I get more of her.
How are you? I noticed the gaps in time between videos seem to be getting longer. I eagerly await further installments of your Buffy analysis.
Cordey being so over the moon about new clothes is probably one of my favourite moments after their break up.
She’s just so happy and exciting even Angel gets pulled into it.
Cordy is broke and her clothes were always like her armor, he gave away a part of her, so it makes sense that it was as simple as that to win her back over LOL
You don’t disappoint. Yes, they used harmony as a mirror to Angel, which makes the whole series of Angel arcs a simplified trope of someone lost trying things.
On a deeper level, it shows we all go through that. We make mistakes in ignorance or weakness, we seek redemption, we sometimes give up on ourselves only to seek redemption again. Just like everyone does.
Everything about this episode and this Guide is DELIGHTFUL. Perhaps my favourite detail is the reworking of your opening titles and very up early 00's pop beats over "I am a villain Spike... hello! ... We've met, Harmony, you halfwit..." etc. etc. I could've listened to you talk about Harmony for a full 25-minute TPN deep dive. Kudos to you and Jack
Disharmony and the following season two episodes are some of my favorite episodes of Angel to rewatch. It's a cute break and it leads into some of my favorite story focused episodes in the series, as what's ahead gives a nice blend of drama and comedy without causing depression like the prior episodes of season two, or the future episodes of seasons three and five. Harmony's return is wonderful, she brings some much needed comedy into season two, and she does the same again in season five!
Season four doesn't cause depression. Just rage.

Season 4 was the end for me, though I started to hate the series when the brat did the boat/ocean thing (trying not to be too spoilery).
@suziq2202 Ahh, the brat and the ocean thing. If you haven't seen Angel through to the end, please give it a watch. It's one of the most important pieces of media for our time. Also consider; the brat is the catalyst for some of the most important character arcs in the series. Worse for some then others (so, so, so much worse), but certain European folk wouldn't be who they are and what they are to the series without Vincent's character. I'm also trying not to spoil too much.
@@wolvezpack4366 , I did watch the series when it aired. I began to hate the way the stories were written, and have not re-watched past the ocean thing, except for a few episodes that don’t involve the brat or the thing that the brat made with not-CC.
The pineapple is on the pizza? I thought it was pineapple chunks with tandoori chicken. But then the idea of chicken anywhere near my pizza is so foreign to me that the misunderstanding is reasonable.
Anyway, that's a good read on Harmony. Even with such a delightfully hilarious episode, you still found enough to explain how it showcases how much Cordelia has grown, and yet stayed recognizable.
I won’t eat pizza with pineapple, or with barbecued chicken. Both ideas disgust me.
The almost worst pizza idea is pineapple with ham. 🤢 They call it “Canadian bacon,” but it’s ham.
Joining the loooong line of people heaping praise on Mercedes McNab. Playing a 'vapid' or 'ditsy' character has got to be one of the hardest things to do *well*, and she brings so much personality and feeling to Harmony without needing the script to provide her with hidden depths that aren't there. Harmony might be my favourite side character in anything ever, and it wouldn't work without Mercedes McNab's seemingly effortless comic masterclass.
I love Harmony, she is a gem.
Having recently rewatched 'friends' due to a break up (it's a thing I do lol!) I can't see Holland Manners without now seeing him saying how much he loves Fonzie as Phoebes Dr! Haha! Another great video! Thank you!

It's not the language I would like to use and I think the joke still works in a 2023 light. But I've always laughed at I THOUGHT SHE WAS A BIG L followed by a cut to a straight-faced Willow.

After watching this one, I think one of the things I've come to appreciate most about the series is my understanding of why I've always loved Cordelia Chas as a character. I always have, but if prompted, don't think I could have fully explained why. You've done a fantastic job of helping me figure that out.

I feel that the source of the rift between Wesley and Angel is found in this episode. Wes was deeply hurt (being someone who is very sensitive about rejection due to his background) and Angel just doesn't see it.

Nothing introspective to say except this episode helped me to find my favourite pizza.
Ok i can if you really want to read it. It was 2011, i had a lil bit of depression and a PS2 in my bedroom alongside a CRT TV i'd taken from my ma and dads house before they moved to France.
It was ny first flat, i had a job but zero surplus income, and had managed to fracture a couple of vertebrae because of daft decisions that come with Glaswegian capricious youth.
With what little budget and hellish neughbours i had whilst watching the second half of Season 2 in bed on DVD after not eating all day i seen Cordellia's choice in meal and got straight on the phone as it seemed delightful in the joy i find in the sweet and the savoury (Sorry Ian) and it kept me going through the seasons closing arc.
Anyway, 12 years on i still order Tandoori Chicken and Pineapple pizza. Better place in more ways than one but damn i remember this episode so well that i loved that comment right at the end of the video, in fact it made it one of the most memorable for me :)
It's funny that in the current run in the Moonknight comics, they're using the vampire pyramid and people finding it the greatest most original idea.

Tomatoes don’t taste like other fruits. I prefer pesto sauce over tomato sauce on pizza, so I guess I’m anti- fruit on pizza, because pineapple is yummy on its own, but revolving when it’s hot and on a pizza.
Pineapple is good on Pizza and I will die on this hill.

I never liked Harmony. Not for one second. Until she became a vampire and the queen of ditzy comedy. Amazing how much she improved as an actress with better material. 😊

Buffy, Dawn, Oz, Willow, Tara, Kennedy, Vi, Andrew, Jonathan, Glory, The Mayor, Faith, Doyle, Lorne, Gru, Cordelia, Eve, Darla, Spike and Angelus would all support pineapple on pizza.
Xander, Giles, Anya, Kendra, Jenny Calendar, Drusilla, Wesley, Gunn, Connor, The Master, Adam, Warren, Amanda, Rona, Quentin, Snyder, Wood and re-ensouled Angel would all oppose pineapple on pizza.
Fred, Harmony, Lilah, Skip, Holtz, Justine and Jasmine would have no strong opinion either way.
I don’t believe for a second that Tara, Faith or Spike would endorse pineapple on pizza, and I’m a little appalled at their characters being maligned in that way. (Standard disclaimers: just my 2¢, ymmv, your kink is okay too, etc)

Okay, so, I HATE Human-Harmony. I LOVE VAMPIRE HARMONY!! Her character turning was a massive improvement (and hilarious).

It’s a revolting combination, not unlike mint jelly on a perfectly grilled lamb. 🤢
I find vampire Harmonys to be such an odd, funny and interesting character because in contrast to the massively evil personality shift other vamps have shes literally just her old self...with fangs. And after watching this ep tonight I thought back to BtVS S2 in 'Bewitched...' where Cordy calls her a sheep, and it clicked how true this is in vamp form. Shes evil because shes told to be evil. Has 'evil' plans because thats what shes seen and copied from others. She has a gang because thats what she did in school and other cool vamps have gangs so she has to copy all of them just to say shes cooler. And of course Harms gets suckered in to a pyramid scheme. Shes still a sheep and it makes her so different and funny as a vamp.
This is why I shouldnt comment halfway through a vid...30 seconds later and you basically say exactly that😅

I kinda hate the ending here, I get what they're going for but it feels a bit of a cheat for Angel to just buy back Cordi's friendship. Also aren't they all poor? Does Angel have a few grand tucked away he just hasn't been telling anyone about!?
Season 3 does backtrack on the ending here a bit once it's relevant again, so at least the nice juicy drama isn't completely wasted.

@@notsosuperpete1689 how else do they pay the rent on the Hyperion. That stash covers most of their salaries too, as they barely break even as seen when they try to go it alone.
Pineapple pizza is a cult. Because it is a tolerable combination and not an obviously poisonous retched one like burnt popcorn wrapped in a lettuce leaf dipped in tzatziki, it becomes the lone reference point for pizza. They don't know that the fruit flavor overpowers all other flavors, a mere delivery system for the pineapple, so they can't miss the the profile of flavors that complement each other so well; the spicy pepperoni, salty mozzarella, the slight tart of the sauce, and the crispy fluffy crust. People aren't putting pineapple into their cheeseburgers, steaks, fried chicken, grilled cheese sandwiches, lasagna, meatloaf, tacos, nothing else, it is just pizza. No, there aren't rules for food, eat what you like. But sometimes, people just do things out of habit or to be contrarian.
@Angela The point isn't that pineapple specific dishes don't exist, the point is that people don't replace non-pineapple dishes with pineapple variants the way they do with pizza. You don't put pineapple in lasagna, or any of the other things I listed. I put bacon and mayonnaise on my cheeseburgers, you think a slice of pineapple would go with that? Hell no.
I put pineapple in my chili con carne, and it's absolutely perfect.😋

2:36 When you think about it, it's really irresponsible of Cordelia to let Harmony go. And for anyone to let a vampire go. We know what soulless vampires eat. They know they're basically enabling future murders to happen. I wish the writers had either had Cordy preoared to kill Harmony but hesitating/having to psyche herself up, or some sort of conversation that acknowledged she shouldn't have done it e.g.
Wesley: you know that by letting her go Cordelia uas just released her to do what vampires do best - kill
Angel (downcast but stoic): I know
Wes: Someone really ought to bring her to see the seriousness of her actions
Angel (sounding less certain) yeah....
Then either have Angel slap Wes's shoulder, say tag youre it run away, or set uo the scene to make you think that's what Angek is gonna do then habe the squealing clothes jumping scene 😁
Fruit on pizza? Yes. Olives, jalapeños, green peppers and tomatoes are all fruit along with pineapple. So pizza sauce is crushed fruit.
Mwahahaha (evil laugh), because pesto is fruit free, and it’s the only sauce I want on my pizza. No tomatoes, olives, or green peppers allowed, even jalapeños. Fungi is good, though.

I often wonder if the hate on pineapple pizza is a marketing gimmick. If so, it works.
I love this episode and you always do a great breakdown, but I’m so excited for intervention. Robots only show up in the Whedonverse when questions of destiny and/or programming (river) become particularly relevant, and the nature of choice is never more relevant than when you don’t have one. It’s just the nature of unsouled vampires and traitorous geek boys that make them grossly sexual as far as “how do we get a robot into the plot goes” I suppose.
As an Italian, I want to state that pineapple on pizza can be delicious 💆🏻♀️

"How much fun you'll have hinges on how much you like Harmony" I hate Harmony and that's why I LOVE this episode. She's so gloriously terrible.
I must be a monster because I LOVE pineapple on pizza. Any pizza for that matter.
Several things about this episode... 1) I pretty much hate Harmony, but I still love this episode. Though I suppose that's because I hate her as a person, but I do like her as a character. 2) pineapple absolutely belongs on pizza, when it's paired with a spiced meat. Pineapple by itself, or pineapple with a bland meat like canadian bacon, no thank you. The pairing of sweet and spicy is what makes it work. 3) With regards to Angel buying Cordy new clothes... on the surface yes, he's buying her love/trust again. But examined further, Angel is making reparations for the hurt he caused. It's not only about the clothes, it's about Cordy being made whole again by way of Angel restoring/replacing that which had been taken from her. And it's also telling that he could do so with Cordy, after failing to do so with Darla.
