  • John Bak suffered severe heart failure due to restrictive cardiomyopathy. His circulation was so poor that it caused his kidneys to deteriorate, said his cardiologist, Max Liebo, MD. While waiting for a heart-kidney transplant at Loyola Medicine, Mr. Bak was put on an intra-aortic balloon pump that helped his heart pump blood. The transplant, performed by Edwin McGee, Jr., MD, was a success and Mr. Bak feels better than he has in a decade. Mr. Bak said his new heart and kidney have given him a “second chance.” For more information or to schedule an appointment, please visit www.loyolamedicine.org/find-a... or call 888-584-7888.
