- Darrin (Dick York) is convinced that Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) has zapped an artificial lawn in their yard, which leads to an argument and more magic!
From Season 4 Episode 24 'How Green Was My Grass' - When artificial grass is mistakenly installed on the Stevens' lawn, Darrin thinks that it is Samantha's doing and tells her to get rid of it. After the real owner comes looking for his turf, Endora hexes their yard and Samantha can't bring the expensive turf back.

What I love about Bewitched is that Darrin and Samantha's marriage was more realistic than other TV show couples. They loved each other deeply, but they could really dish it out when they argued. Sam even left Darrin several times when he made her so angry. Ward and June Cleaver, Mike and Carol Brady never fought about anything. How ridiculous is that? No way 2 people can live under the same roof and don't argue. Darrin and Sam's marriage made Bewitched the success it was. God bless and RIP Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York. ❤

In his rush to judgment, Darrin overlooked the fact that if Samantha wanted real grass, she could have had it--her magic never went astray unless she was sick.
His character really ticks me off sometimes. No wonder Endora loves to mess with him.

I've read that Dick York told Herbie Pilato for his book THE BEWITCHED BOOK (aka BEWITCHED FOREVER) that he didn't like the yelling that he had to do in portraying Darrin.
Oh c'mon, admit it! Samantha is much more fun to watch when she's frustrated and annoyed with Darrin - that's when she really uses her witchcraft in front of him unapologetically! 🤣

I used to love this show but watching it now I am so fed up with Darren behavior towards Samatha
Sam and Elizabeth had to be one of the worlds perfect wives. Since there was so much one in the other I realized that her husband was truly blessed being able to wake up next to that gorgeous and talented creature everyday.

NGL.There have been a few times that "send him to the couch" one would have been handy.
This was such an enlightening show. Darren was the worst husband of any TV show on the air at the time. This is where I learned how to recognize a bully.

I loved that show and I liked the first Darrin the 2nd was ok , and he grew on me
The second Darrin---Dick Sargent---was a creepy man. Something really offputting about that one. He's long dead, of course, and no grief about his demise. He wasn't that good an actor, not in this show.
I need context, why's he so mad about grass-
Lawn men were suppose to deliver some artificial grass to a different house. But they got the wrong address, so set it down.
When Darrin came and saq the new grass, his first thought was Sam used magic to replace it
They should do a reboot that’s a darker version where Samantha gets sick of Darin’s witchphobia and curses him and finds another man!

I totally disagree. Samantha actively deceived Darrin and hid her powers until AFTER they were married. Then Darrin was left to just deal with it. When he expressed distrust, she used her powers to zap him to the couch. Obviously, Samantha was the abusive one in the relationship. She used her powers against a mortal.

She only zapped him on the couch when he refused to believe her when she repeatably told him that the lawn was not her fault, after he ignored her asking for the lamb chops then attacked her for him not paying attention to her, etc. Throughout the show he repeatably discriminates against witchs and warlocks. He deserved every spell cast on him. What Samantha saw in him i will never know.
But this wasn't made in 2021, now was it? It was made in the mid-60's, now wasn't it? IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT WOULD STAND TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only does Darrin pick on Samantha but Darrin’s boss, Larry, picks on him. Too much abuse going on here. Every once in a while would be okay, but this goes on in every episode for eight years. No wonder Elizabeth ‘retired’. That’s a lot of weight to be carrying for that long. 😮
He looks like Jim Carrey. Am I the only one that sees it?

If I were Sam, I'd put Darrin in a cage, or better yet, the stocks. This hyperactive temper is one of the traits about Dick York's Darrin I don't like. I've read he didn't either.
The look that Sam gives Darrin after she removes the turf shows her anger. Endora is right, he's a dumb cluck. I loved it when she zapped him to the couch.
You'd think that after four years of marriage, he'd would've been more accepting of who Sam is. I think that's the fault of the writers. Darrin's attitude would change later in the series, less volitile.
