To answer some of the questions below.
It's a Vantrue Camera preferred by Uber and Lyft drivers (like I used to be) for the inside recording. Around $200, I have the additional GPS mount. As you can see my coordinates and Speed at the bottom. Noticed the coordinates are a few blocks off though and it shows I'm at 19mph when I'm almost stopped which is probably typical lag with GPS.
Not sure if that's something in the guys hand or not.
The seat did collapse but I think that's by design. gave my head about an extra foot of cushion before complete stop.
I did have my previously fractured hand x-rayed as it was in pain but no new fracture.
His insurance company has taken responsibility.
I told the state trooper I had a dash cam, he just shrugged and said, "it's pretty obvious what happened here."

Rear ending someone (under most circumstances) requires such a lack of awareness, focus, and following distance that it should almost never happen
Its not just distracted drivers it's also drivers who have untreated sleep disorders like sleep apnoea which causes them to have whats called microsleeps behind the wheel
@@stephanopapadimitriou4789 That doesn't excuse it.
@@Booplesn00tgaming no arguments there
This couldn't be ANY further from the truth, wow, silly comment.
@@Booplesn00tgaming they werent trying to excuse it, just expanding the group of people who rear end others
If you slow down the playback speed you can clearly see the driver looking at his cell phone.
Maybe google what clearly means
Ot only was the person on the phone was smoking a cigarette as well
They're right, it's not super clear, but there is a frame you can see a phone in his hand right before impact
@@Legoboy55ableyou think that’s what the other driver was doing?
RUclips mobile lets you zoom in the screen, the guy who rear ended the car was clearly with a phone in his hand, its sad we have to share the roads with people like this daily
Man that emergency call system is quick. My first thought was shut up and give me 5 seconds to get my breath back
I have the same car, that's how you want it. Seconds matter in a crash.
Yes no doubt you want it to be quick but at that moment I couldn't even get a straight sentence out of my mouth before even taking a look around me.
So what if it calls emergency?
@@azmagaref that's what it does but come on. Give me 5 seconds to realize what just happened and to collect my thoughts to get a straight sentence out and not end up mumbling gibberish from the shock
@@no-damn-alias Why are you bothered by a smart device that calls emergency immediately after a crash? What if you're unconscious in need for immediate rescue? Every second counts when the brain is injured.
One of these assholes crashed into my dad in early 2000’s. My dad has had back pain since which has gotten in the way of him working out and sitting for long periods without extreme pain. It’s so sad to see but I hope this man is okay 👍
Maybe if they made use of a cell phone in an accident a criminal offense, people would fucking stop.
Man, that looked like a hard hit… it really jerked you around. Hope u and the other person was ok.
Hope you're ok. I live about 1 mile from there. Sure looks like the driver that hit you had something in his left hand right before impact.
That guy was texting, no doubt in my mind. There are 2 or 3 frames that show it clearly.
2 Kilometers
Wow. Sad to see that seats are still collapsing in fairly new Ford products.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
That’s what the car is Supposed to do. Your seat goes backwards to absorb the energy of the impact so it doesn’t go to you. All new cars do that that’s not a bad thing.
@@justenzo6342 that’s not true
@@justenzo6342 Many modern cars have active headrests which move forward in an accident to reduce the risk of whiplash, but the seat back should never move!
@darkness Seats are never suppose to go backwards when you get rear ended. It could paralyze you or hurt a small child/toddler upon impact if they’re in the back seat.
Wow, somebody actually enabled Emergency Assist for once.
I am a 911 dispatcher, so....
Ah, Makes sense.
Yes, some people with Ford's don't have it on/turn it off... why I'll never know.
Hey Steve! Can I feature this clip in one of my compilations? Fully credited ofc! ^^
No

What camera set up do you have. Really good 'evidence' for use with any legal proceedings or insurance claims.
Vantru, see description under video for more info.
The same exact thing happened to me by the NY/Connecticut border over the summer. Traffic slowed down fast in front of me, I had to hit the brakes and a truck plowed into the back of my brand new CR-V (not even a year old) so bad it threw me into the guardrail. The truck had bars on the front that just ripped the back of my vehicle apart. I had 2nd degree burns from my airbag, had to get a hotel room (I was hours from home headed on vacation, that went up in smoke too) I just saw so many similarities here with what happened in my case. I hope you're okay!
Thanks, Physically I was fine. Financially though. Allstate refused to make me whole even though I had full coverage and it wasn't my fault. The money they gave me was about $3000 less than what I needed to buy the exact car. So after 30+ years of giving allstate money for house, cars and motorcycles, State Farm now gets my money.
@@stevec588 I got so lucky. I totaled my truck. Had a blow out on the highway. I didn't have full coverage. Just basic liability coverage. I slammed into a semi new Chevy Tahoe. It was my fault, I just couldn't control the truck when my back tire blew out. I thought for sure I was gonna get sued and my life was over. Geico saved my ass and the other people settled with them. I learned a valuable mistake. Get full coverage and pay extra for it. It's worth it.
@@stevec588 Confused here. In the video caption, you state that the truck driver's company took responsibility. Did they later renege? Was All-State the carrier for both you and the pickup?
I Had That Same Exact Thing In April 2022
@@stevec588 At least you enabled 911 Assist! :)
Oof. Your back is gonna feel that one
I would've thought the side airbag on the drive side of your car should have went off instead of the passenger side, in order to protect your head since it moved around a lot in this accident. Hope you are doing well!
Buddy you were watching it coming too. I had that shit happen to me too, it's the worst... Feels bad man.
Just an idea: if traffic all of a sudden stops and you’re the last one in line, rapidly tap your brakes to flash the brake lights as a warming. If you’re on the highway and traffic abruptly slows/stops turn on your hazard flashers.
I do this and it really seems to help. Pretty sure it's saved my butt more than once!
@@valeriaswanne Awesome!!! Also, If traffic stops so abruptly I don’t have time to hit the flashers, I will pull off the road a bit. Both a visual warning and extra space for the car behind me in which to stop.
Hi Steve, I hope you are ok. CaN i use this video on my channel ?Any comment or updates? Thanks
That headrest is absolutely terrible
It looks like the guy was distracted. I can see he is holding something in his left hand. Anyway Steve Crosier, I want to ask your permission If I can feature this video ''accident " in an educational compilation with credit back to you? Please
@@abc345ful By the time he may have recognized that the car was approaching too fast, there was no opening for the OP to get out of the way.
My back is broken slightly. Vertebrae? No, spinal!
No problems for me.
I Was Rear Ended Too In April 2022 Some Jackass Honda Hit My Ford Explorer XLT And Also New York Is A No Fault State
Minnesota is "no fault" also but there are still advantages to not be at fault.
Nice to see,the Ecall works
If people set it up/make sure the option is on.
Many modern cars have active headrests which move forward in an accident to reduce the risk of whiplash, but the seat back should never move! Imagine if you a rear seat passenger sitting behind you...
The modem headrests you speak of move prior to your head ever meeting it. Many other safety measures that mitigate impact are incorporated including a "yielding" backrest and much like an airbag in a front end collision cushions the blow.
Yes. They are suppose to do that.
Debate as to which is better for you continues.
Here is one such paper.

Gets a bit long so you can skip to the conclusions at the end. That is unless you're just trolling and really aren't interested.
All I know is the cushion of the yielding seat back left me with zero injuries. Oh, and there was plenty of space left for a passenger without being hit by the front seat.
While you're at never buy a car with those silly crumple zones.
Darn weak fenders.
Something in the guys left hand.
phone...
To a degree it doesn’t really matter what he was doing prior to the impact, there’s inattentive driving laws, reckless, driving laws, one could even stretch it a little further, and even say there’s criminal assault laws that would cover a crash such as this. It doesn’t matter if he was too busy doing a crossword puzzle or talking on the phone or gazing out the window at cows in the field, the results are the same.
Looked like phone in hand in the car that rear-ended him.
Jesus Christ that was a HUGE hit
I also got rear ended same scenario as this. Did you have any neck injuries and how are you holding up?I still have whiplash after 5 months
Thought I rebroke my wrist but x-rays were negative. No neck or head issues. Worst part was Allstate stalling for 6 months till I finally accepted the offer of 70% of my cars value.
@stevec588 it's insane bud, same shit up here in Canada, at no fault of my sis they tried to lowball her, took 3 months before she saw anything.
Auto insurance companies are literal "legal" fraud. They'll cancel your insurance after 2 months and then slam your ability to get insurance for 3 years, yet when they're required to pay its, in your case, 6 months.
That is why, when you are on a motorway etc and have to really slow down, use your emergency lights.
Looks like a cell phone in left hand of the driver. Maybe videoing something out the window?
So why didn’t the driver side air impact go off? Looks like the only airbag that did go off was the passenger side airbag, because the driver side never went off. Not good for FORD 🤭🤭🤭
Out of curiosity did you look behind you and think that the guy was far enough away that he would surely have time to react or did you just never look behind you?
Never saw him.
Hey Steve C, may we feature this video in our episodes?
Hey ! May I use your clip in my video with credit and link ? What happened before-after this ? Do you have comment ?

@@georgiadawgs2778 no full coverage with Allstate... well, what they consider full coverage paid for it.
They gave me less than blue book but I almost had it paid off so got a check.
Just wondering, was it only the side airbag that deployed or did your front ones deploy aswell?
Steering wheel airbag deployed and passenger side airbag. Not driver side, I think probably because I was hit more on right side in the rear.
that driver is so stupid. he had no common sense to stop and not go like 80mph and literally smash your car. he was probably on his phone.
How much did you get from this crash?
80% of what the car was worth. That's it, nothing more. Couldn't even get a replacement for my car. Thanks All-State.
What camera do you use?

Ouch!!!
That was bad, are you ok?
Thought I rebroke my hand. X-ray reveals no problem. I actually credit Ford with my lack of injuries. Some have complained that my seat bent back but if you look at accident mitigation this is by design. Automatically call 911, air bags......
