    Just starting Keto……Again!! My joints hurt and I have no energy. Even after 7 hours of sleep. I tried Carnivore but was constipated. Now I’m adding green beans and broccoli or cauliflower all swimming in butter. It’s actually delicious! I have failed many times at Keto due to strong cravings and no help from family and friends. This time I am determined to be very strict as close to zero carbs as possible for at least 30 days to see if it will reduce my pain an inflammation. Pray for me! 🙏

      Congratulations on starting again! You’re going to do great this time. A new thing I’ve done with broccoli to spice things up a bit is to make cheesy broccoli! Since just butter gets boring sometimes. 😅

    The last two and a half years have been amazing on keto. My health improved in too many ways to list plus my body has found a weight it really likes and has stayed there for 18 months. I eat twice a day until full, weight lift 3-4 days a week and walk for cardio. Not killing myself at the gym at all. I’m in my mid 50’s but feel like I’m 25. Diet Doctor and other keep me educated about how my body works and I’m truly grateful.

    This pretty much descrives Atkins. I can't wait to get back to this. I remember when I did it about 15 years ago I felt amazing. Waking up not tired was a shock. I had issues being the only way eating that way in a family of 5 so over time I fell back to the normal American diet. I'm hoping to get back to it soon.

    Excellent summary, it is fully sustainable with plenty of variety. Worked well for me, pulled my high blood sugars down, solved my very high blood pressure, and also took my weight down ( although this was not my prime objective, not being so overweight anyway). Has been superb for my health and metabolism.

    I've found that people are still eating when they're not hungry. Like 3 meals a day plus snacks just to hit some mythical target numbers. My best advice is to simply not eat unless you're hungry. Also...I would avoid substitution foods or Keto deserts while you are trying to lose weight. If you have a lot of weight to lose then you might have to limit these 'treats' to special occasions or avoid them altogether for a while when you're losing. Once you approach your target weight then you can reintroduce these 'treats' as part of your healthy eating plan.

    Due to bad teeth, and, gums, for several years, then finally getting them all pulled, and, now, wearing dentures, I just want to learn to eat again. My digestive tract is so messed up right now, I can't seem to eat anything without bloating to the point of vomiting at times. I'm only two months into this, stopping all pop, candies, cookies, bread, pasta, etc., and, feeling a little better, but, I think I may have SIBO. I'm drinking lots of water, teas, ACV, and, lemon juice. Added foods, and, took away foods. I'm on a small, fixed, income, and, shopping for these supplements, and, alternatives, are time consuming, and, in some cases, expensive. Doing what they call "dirty Keto" at the moment, trying to clean it up day by day, separating the good from the bad. Pray for me, cause without God's help, it's hopeless. I subscribed, and, thank you for all your help on this journey. May God bless you, and, your loved ones, and, keep you safe, amen!

    I'm 65 and 180 pounds overweight. I've been taking a blood thinner due to arrhythmia from A-fib, and the episodes were getting worse and more frequent. So, instead of going to my GP, I went to a cardiologist. He insisted I take a blood pressure medicine, even though I objected due to the fact that my BP is still in the normal range. I gave in and took it. Well, the dose was so high my BP dropped to levels that couldn't be read on a cuff... and my chest felt like someone was vacuuming my heart right out of my body. I nearly passed out in the shower, and truly thought for a short period that I was going to die. My wife wanted me to go to the ER but I refused. I quit taking the meds and swore to never go back to that guy. Then I thought, if I am ever going to truly get away from these idiots, I'm going to have to lose the weight... even though I've been obese for 30 years. Otherwise, I would end up in their offices more and more as I get older. For the first time, I am actually motivated to lose weight.
    I went on a keto-like diet, cutting out potatoes and bread on day one and staying away from sweets, sodas, desserts, and between-meal snacks. I established some order to my eating habits. Two eggs and a banana or an apple for breakfast, salad for lunch and for supper a piece of chicken, pork or beef with steamed vegetables. My wife says it's extremely boring cooking for me now... but I've lost 20 pounds in the first month and I feel better than I have in years. My sleep apnea has lessened, my arrhythmia has reduced in intensity and frequency, and I feel energized. My food rewards are things like eggplant parm or a piece of sausage with some pasta... but not too much.

    Great video! I’ve been following NSNG it’s basically Keto minus artificial sweeteners. One thing I’ve never checked is my ketones. I also don’t count carbs. I stick to proteins, veggies good fats, berries. Let’s be real I have sweets but not on the regular, the last time was Memorial weekend off and on. I can go long periods without eating, in the past I noticed I ate out of boredom or habit. What I’m trying to get at is can this be way of life and not be concerned if I’m in range or not. But I guess it would be interesting to know. Im difficult I guess.

      Thanks for watching, Maribel! It sounds like you have found a balance that works and is sustainable for you and that is very important.
      As long as your way of eating provides you with the adequate nutrition needed for a healthy mind and body, keeps you progressing towards your individual health goals, and is enjoyable for you, then you don't need to focus on counting or tracking carbs or ketone levels if that is not something you like to do.
      Of course, maintain your regular physicals and blood tests with your doctor for consistent check-ins on important health markers.

    When I was young (And relatively healthy, outside of my food choices, 220 pounds and low HDL) eating excessive fat helped me. Carbs have an addictive quality to me and eating all the fat (And calories) I wanted was exactly what was right for me at that point. Because overcoming the carb addiction was very hard, fat was like methadone or another medication that helps with addiction.
    Then, I stalled, so I had to moderate this and that. Then, for years I've been at 50-100 carbs and now that I'm smaller and have more experience im in a position to moderate my fat.
    I think for a lot of people they're in medical danger or they won't stay motivated if the results are slow, but for me, sustainability was the key. I think some of my success has been because my emphasis has been on how I FEEL (Inflammation), avoiding binges, and exercising for my mental health (also inflammation. Interesting, right?) Instead of calories or weight.
    The appropriate choices are based on the individual. Health risks the top priority. But if you think eating moderate fat with the very low carbs is more than you can handle and quit, (And it's medically approved) then some people might benefit from only focusing on carbs at the beginning until they're in the swing of things. Please just don't go back to eating large quantities of food that are ruining your quality of life.

    • @sazonada
      @sazonada 2 года назад

      And remember, eating carbs isnt bad. They just won't allow you to empty your liver of glucose so you switch to the metabolic state of Ketosis.
      You can eat a cookie! That doesn't make you "Bad" but it takes you out of the metabolic state of Ketosis. And then you have to go to the effort to go back in.
      If someone tells you "Come on, just have one cookie! You've been good! Treat yourself!" You can say "I already did! I had jalapeno poppers!" And watch your life change :)

    Something that doesn't correlate for me (type 1 diabetic with CGM) is that hunger/satiety doesn't match anything to do with insulin levels (rising/falling/whatever), but is directly correlated with blood sugar levels (high = satiated, low = hungry).
    Without the spikes in blood sugar from carb-heavy meals when trying keto, I actually feel hungrier and eat more (caveat 1: I'm not overweight and am not trying to lose weight - just trying to stabilize my blood sugar levels, caveat 2: All non-weight-gain negative side-effects of blood sugar spikes and associated [injected] insulin spikes match those that keto proposes to solve).
    Any suggestions here as to what might be going on - what could I ask my primary healthcare provider to look for or help me with?

    nothing published for those of us who must eat carbohydrates. I am
    successfully in ketosis, after first failing, in spite of my food

      Below 100 g of carbs is a lower carb version, which is still better than a standard American diet, but it won’t get you into ketosis. Low-carb is what becomes ketogenic version, less 20 grams of carbs a day, spread out over your meals. If you are on any meds, better do lower carb version as many meds interfere with ketosis.

    • @jameskantor0459

      Dr. Atkin had a 40 net gram carb plan. It may work slower but may be easier to follow. You can purchase keto strip to dip in urine if you like to know if mildly level of keto are forming. I have been doing under 50 net gram and still get some results. From what I read if you use under net 100 gram of carb you will still be a lot healthier than 80% of Americans. Do try to focus on healthy lower glycemic index carb. Still avoid candy cake cookies. And also bread, pasta, rice, potatoes these four group spike my sugar. I know because I check my blood sugar with a meter, as I now a well controlled diabetic from eating too much food and 250-300 grams of total carbs for the year when the advice was low fat. The other thing sort of confusing is how much fat - should you add fat or just get it with one's meat protein? Per Diet doc, I dont think you go out of your way to add fat but one does need calories.

      Beans are the WORST! High carbs, and high Lectins-can lead to leaky gut. Green beans okay-small amounts. All other beans you should just see as toxic. Dr. Paul Mason has an excellent talk on this.

    • @dietdoctor
      @dietdoctor  3 года назад +2

      Hi Ray! It can depend on the type of bean and which level of low carb you are most comfortable with.
      If you are trying to stick to a strict keto diet of 20g of net carbs per day or lower, most beans will be too high in carbs to incorporate. Green beans, as mentioned, are a bit lower in net carbs (4g per 100g) and can be easier to include. This is a great visual guide if you are interested! www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/vegetables
      For those following a more moderate or liberal low carb approach, beans can be a nutritious addition to your meals. As always, it's important listen to your body and monitor your response to different foods.

    I have done Atkins (Keto) since 1992, except for about 3 years where I was strict carnivore. NEVER felt optimum, never had mental clarity, etc. In fact, always had cramps. My Hashimoto's got worse. I lost weight and put it back on, etc. Sleep was bad, blood glucose was 100 to 120 all the time. Wore a CGM for 3 months, did all manner of fasting. The only thing that worked was putting carbs back in. I worked with Eskimos for 30 years and know they lived off whale (watched a village drag one up on a beach and butcher it in the 80's) and other meats. But even though I have more Neanderthal than 90% of people, that was LONG AGO. A lot has changed. And I personally cannot live like that and I would rather feel good at almost 73 than be skinny! Good sleep beats looking "ripped" as you youngsters say. Tired of suffering for imaginary theories and rationalizing why an extreme diet is correct for all. I know many who do have to justify making money off it.

      Hi Klaus, thanks for watching! I wanted to share our guide on ketosis in case you are interested in reading www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/ketosis. As the others mentioned, it sounds like you were spot on!
      Keep in mind that the level of ketosis may not matter to a significant degree if your primary health goal is weight loss. These levels can vary based on individual and even time of day.
      Making sure you are getting adequate protein intake at each meal, keeping your carbs low (as low as works for you), and using fat for flavor, but not eating more than you need is even more important for success than hitting certain ketone ranges for many health goals.
