NekoSoren He made Coin Crypt and Phantasmaburbia. He also makes some freeware. If you like jrpgs, try Dubloon and Phantasmaburbia. I first saw this dev's work when he posted Dubloon (free!) on Tigsource. It's a good game although the art is.. hm. Well, he's doing better now. Love this man.
I'm still waiting for Phantasmaburbia to be released on Steam. Don't think it's gonna happen now, as Banov seems to have forgotten about it in favor of this game.
@@warrenburger9907 Indie Games are Godsend. i have a shity laptop too, my processor is still an i3 but i'm not complaining. thanks to indie games, classic games, or even modern/recently released yet Very well optimised game, my gaming life is quite fun at least for me. And now thanks to channel like lowspecgamer, i can even play the witcher 3, albeit with a VERY low setting. but it's still playable. it's still fun, and that's what truly matter to me i guess i find a lot of pc gamer complain when there's no 4k and 60 fps, which never fail to confuse me, because i still find enjoyment in 720p(sometimes 800x600) and 30 fps 😂 kinda sad....but kinda not.
This game looks incredible! It's so nice to see a game that's not about killing things but is also not a point and click guessing game, and it's so well polished. Really rare in the games industry, and I'd love to see more like it.
I kind of disliked Transistor's hum button. The problem with it was that you couldn't do it while moving and (IIRC) you couldn't do it during cutscenes, so you basically had to stop whatever you were doing to hum for a bit. This game seems to get around that by letting you dance during cutscenes and conversations, though.
Or Shovel Knight dance command ! It really adds a lot of character too - try to dance with Plague Knight in front of his crush ? He's too embarassed and shows it !
Literally just played this game and it's beautiful. Made me so happy and what more can you ask for? Was wondering what others thought and was joyed to see a positive Jim review in existence! Thank God for Jim.. and for Kitn (my bards name in Wandersong)
everything I've seen of adventure time makes it look incredibly mean-spirited and like there's lots of dark fucked up stuff looming under the surface of the cute art style, wandersong doesn't have that though. Unless it gets really messed up later (I hope not, I would hate to dislike this game because it tried to be 'subversive'), it's really wholesome and has a lot of positive messages.
This game really surprised me. I originally downloaded it to get some easy gamerscore when MS were exchanging that for real world money. However the game completely won me over with its heart. Definitely worth a play. ❤️
Jim basically described, at the start, how I felt about Yoshi's Story on the N64 . A simple game that was silly fun that wasnt too challenging. So this is right up my street I love it already :D
Yoshi's Story has a couple of trouble levels, but on the whole is easier than Yoshi's Island which was easier than Super Mario World which was easier than Super Mario Bros. 3 which was easier than the original Super Mario Bros which was easier than The Lost Levels.
Thank goodness for people that make games like this. I need a change of pace once in awhile and this definitely will be something I will play in the future. I also think for people I know and even myself we need memory games for health related reasons. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Mr. Sterling.
Probably should get my niece this game for Christmas because last year she saw me playing DOOM 2016 & probably not the best choice for a 4 year old lol
Was just looking at this on the Switch marketplace. Was kinda considering it, but based on this review, I think I'm sold! Thanks for shining a light on this for me.
*Jim Sterling* - There is one thing I WISHED you touched on. Does the game have a mode for the colorblind? I can see the base mechanic (the radial note menu) has both direction and color as indicators, but there are instances where it's not showing what note to hit in some of those screens (like the pirate sing along at the end of the video). It would be nice if the game included a feature that changed the color wheel based on a selected colorblind option. This could affect the enjoyment of some people.
I think that specific sequence also uses the mug icon to indicate the note on the wheel. But that's still a very important question to be made anyway, I agree with you.
From the Kickstarter: Plans For Accessibility? (Colorblind, Deaf) This is definitely on our mind! We'll be talking to accessibility testers moving forward. We'd like to offer optional palette changes for colorblind players. That said, we've also made sure that so far no single puzzle uses color or sound as its only "hint." So even the vanilla version of the game should be playable for differently abled players (although it may be more challenging).
James Wright - Thanks for the information. It still would have been nice for Jim to include it in his review of the game, especially seeing so many games on the market that don't include ANY accessibility options for players with disabilities.
If you play it on Switch the Switch itself has a colour switching option for all games but I don't know how effective it is. Wow, lotsa switches in such a short sentence.
Yeah! Where's all the controversy and micro transactions?! How am I supposed to get angry at this charming little game if it has no controversy or micro transactions?!!
I prefer games that give me a challenge. ...But some games are just for making you feel good, and I love those, too (can't wait until payday; I want this so bad)! It's when games fail to do either that I get irritated.
i loved this game. i’ll admit that sometimes it feels too repetitive and the final boss was kinda underwhelming, but it’s overall a very lovely game and was totally worth my time. i’m so glad i experienced this game. i kinda wish there was some sort of end game though.
The game was far from perfect but... "That's okay!!!" It has a lot of heart and despite a few issues with glitches and story telling, I really really enjoyed it as a whole.
@Ham Man, no. It is completely directionless. For it to be a Ramsey button, it would need to be focused on context and deliver unique dialogue. It simply offers wingdings and unintelligible gibberish. Lol. So, more like a Drunk Julia Child button.
I'm confused why the devs didn't have you press a button to confirm a note. That way you wouldn't have to let go of the analog stick between every note, you could just rotate past the intervening notes to the new one, and press the A button or whatever to sing just that note when you get there. And you could press the button multiple times to sing the same note in succession, again without having to let go of the stick.
Whenever I had the presence of mind to do it, I liked to amuse myself by starting to dance any time something in the foreground briefly obscured the bard. One thing though, and this is a pretty major spoiler, but I wasn’t into the bard still insisting Audrey was “misunderstood” right up until the end of the game because she came off as the sort of person who would have shot up her highschool if she were real.
You had me at "bard". And then again at "dedicated dance button".
I'm SO glad this Dev is getting more attention. He makes such cute and charming games and Wandersong is the best of the lot!

I'm glad I backed this game on kickstarter, it's probably my GOTY so far.
So I get to play as a bard...? I'm sold
Check out Bardbarian from 2014 then.
Bard's Tale?
Not enough games with bards in them, even those, ironically, based on D&D.
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Seriously, check it out.
