- MOMENT EU's von der Leyen IS shown bodies of victims of Bucha massacre in Ukraine after a Russian onslaught.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Ukraine's town of Bucha on Friday (April 8), the site where Ukrainian officials have said hundreds of civilians have been found dead since Russian troops pulled back from last week.
Von der Leyen along, with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and EU's Josep Borrell, was taken to a site of a mass grave behind the church in Bucha.
"It is the unthinkable has happened here. We have seen the cruel face of Putin's army. We have seen the recklessness and cold heartedness with which they have been occupying the city.
Here in Bucha we saw our humanity being shattered and it is, the whole world is mourning with the people of Bucha, and they are the ones, who are, as you said, defending the border of Europe, defending humanity, defending democracy and therefore we stand with them in this important fight," she said.
Ukraine and several Western governments have accused Moscow of war crimes after the bodies of civilians shot at close range were found in the town of Bucha following a Russian withdrawal.

+ Immediately after the news of the killing of civilians in Bucha came out, Russia had asked the UN Security Council to convene for an investigation, but was dismissed out of hand by the Council's current Chair which is the UK.
Да отклонили. Украинские власти могли провести расследование как и положено в таких случаях , время убийства , место - там ли эти люди были убиты или их туда принесли уже мёртвыми... На видео трупы с белыми повязками на руках , это отличительный знак , ее повязывают жители которые лояльно относятся к русским и все они были убиты. Тоже самое произошло в 2014 году в Одессе 2-го мая (есть много видео) людей которые хоть как то высказывают другую точку зрения убивают и никто не несёт за это наказания. Так что никакого расследования не будет , а если и будет то только с целью обвинить в произошедшем Россию , а не докопаться до истины.

We know from witnesses that Russian soldiers did this. An investigation will be carried out, but the only reason the Russian government is calling for is a weak attempt to claim innocence for as long as possible. We're not buying it, this sort of thing is right up Russia's alley. This has been seen in their bombing targets, as they clearly to after civilians.

This economic isolation the west is (successfully) applying to Russia is so efficient in part thanks to the EU pressure on private entities. A video released by the National Police of Ukraine on April 2 shows no signs of the alleged mass war crimes that Kiev claims took place in the city when it was under Russian control. Not that I agree with them not going, I think more should. However, it would be politically unacceptable for a western leader to visit. As soon as a western leader, say US President Biden went to Bucha, the response would be:
1) If you had intervened with military support, this would not have happened
2) If you are "so upset" at what you see, why do you not NOW bring in your military?
For a western leader to visit inside Ukraine would mean increased demands for them to do more. This is something western leaders have decided they cannot do for fear of Putin escalating things and using tactical nuclear weapons. Thus, a western leader visiting would be politically viewed as insincere (even if it was meant as very sincere).
von der Leyen does not represent a specific country or military, so she can visit without the political fallout. The EU is not a military organization, it is an economic one, so her visit is very different politically that a western leader's would be.
