Great reaction. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard.
It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre 👹 popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should 🤭). 🤘
The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀👹
Kami means god or spirit, so the Kami Band are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in all their live shows - which should also explain the traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint (since late 2017 the robes are black, since 2019 the face paint was replaced with masks).
In order of solos that night they were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
This was their second night (Red Night and Black Night) at the Budokan in Tokyo in March 2014.
The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also one of the most prestigious venues for concerts in Japan (think Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden levels of prestige). It is where all Japanese artists aspire to play - not so many ever get to do that.
BABYMETAL became the youngest ever female band to headline there (Su-metal the lead singer was just 16, Yuimetal and Moametal were both still only 14) and they sold it out 2 nights running as their first album was being or was about to be released.
They returned in 2021 to play 10 more concerts as part of their 10th anniversary celebration.

This song is among many BM fans one of the most representative of their kawaii metal sound, is heavy but is cute or kawaii at the same time with so much energy and crazy circle pits and mosh from the crowd, not on this performance but you'll see that in another.
This was live at Budokan Arena 2014 reaching a huge milestone with only 14 and 16 yo, after this they started the World Tour and reaching the Sonisphere Festival.
This time the Kami Band playing in order are: Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on that freaking monster 6-String bass, and Hideki Aoyama on drums. All of them are possessed by the Fox God the moment they step up on the stage, and I'm not even joking.
This mind-blowing beautiful song is about hide & seek tag game, but isn't just any other regular child play, they're playing with an Oni, a mythological japanese creature human flesh eater 👹👀
This is heavy af.
You can also noticed the punk section, many people reminds it the sound of some of the US rock punk like The Offspring or Green Day, and the heavy part apparently got some Slipknot vibes.
Kami Band intro are rare and only on certain songs but throughout different live performance you'll hear slightly different changes because like i said, not always were the same members and even the same members sometimes change their solo a little bit.
If you want another melting faces intro you should go for:
- Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at this same venue you just saw, is a SuMetal solo and I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it, "Kawaii Metal" got the clip.

Su is 16 in this video, and Yui and Moa 14 . They are season professionals. Even at that age, there are videos of them even younger performing, and they are more cuter than a basket full of kittens ♥️♥️♥️. You can see how confident they are hyping up the audience. I have seen videos of them performing this song at shows and metal festivals where Su asks and gets multiple huge circle pits 😮 . Just hope they perform it again. The fans will go nuts 🤣 They recently did a collaboration with F Hero, a Thai rapper, and the Thai rock group BodySlam, a song called Leave it all behind 2.7 million views in 2 weeks ! think you will enjoy it 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Heaviest song about playing hide and seek or tag... BUT... with an "oni", a sort of Japanese ogre. Which makes it more... interesting.
This was my very first BABYMETAL song, so it's very special for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is definitely one of their heaviest songs but it also has one of their cutest choreos, including my personal favorite movement: the infamous "Moa slide" hehe...

IIRC, this concert is from 2014...so they were young. Nice that it's getting past the copyright police...all we used to get here on RUclips was compilations or watermarked reaction vids.

Awesome! The lyrics refers to a Japanese game of hide and seek vs an “ogre”, a tradition in some villages where parents dress as “ogres” and come find bad kids and discipline them.

BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. Late comment but better late.
Always nice to see someone discovering BabyMetal and if you do decide to go fully into the foxhole then try to do it chronologically as there are distinct 'eras' in their line up and music.
2010-2018 was the original 3 members Su, Moa & Yui
2018 Yui had to leave due to health issues and they performed as a duo for a time, as in the Monochrome 1st Take video, and then had the 'avengers', including Momo, who filled in for her.
Today Momo is a full member.
Generally live is best as they are a force of nature with huge stage presence and audience interaction but I'd still check some of the videos particularly Megitsune which is a fan favourite.
Anyway there's lots to choose from but definitely check Monochrome Live At PIA Arena which is full on goose bumps/full body chills.
