Seriously, these guys in this genre were as good as many and better than most. This was the kind of music teen people were singing in 1957 and these guys should have gotten a record out. Does anyone know if they did? Robert Klein is so talented in so many areas of entertainment. Finding this is a treat, especially since I went to Ted Mack Camp in the Berkshires for two outstanding summers, 1957 and 1958, with a hundred other talented kids. I never got on the TV show, but I was the runner-up in a local live show Ted did in New Rochelle, NY, in 1957.I know the world wasn't a perfect place at the time - is it ever? - but it was a good place for me.

Robert also did a stint as a substitute teacher in NYC. I'll never forget that class (had him but one time for one period) circa 1966-67 or thereabouts.

LOVE seeing this! Love Robert Klein have followed him for years. Happily he was able to use that wonderful voice in They're Playing Our Song years later on Broadway. Tony Nom.

The bit about this on "Mind Over Matter" is funny. "We were defeated by a one-armed pianist."

Robert Klein is second from left. Really nice rendition. He sings it on the Robert Klein Show similar to the Willie Winfield and the Harptones version and it's so good. I love this song by other artists as well, especially the late, great, Etta James.

I'm an alien and have never resided in the US. But I did live in canada and mexico , and regularly viewed programs where Robert Klein appeared.
I thought his strong point was that he was decent ,and educated and those properties showed up in his act. Another, similar protagonist was Bob Belzer.
Itto , ditto. I was always vagualy aware of both these men's jewish background and upbringing, and the old adage of " you don't have to be jewish , but it helps" certainly proved their mark.

So he started out as a singer and comedy was his fallback? I've always liked his singing. I am seeing him Saturday night. He forgot his lyrics once to a song and I handed him my cell phone with the words on it.

Klein later did a great bit about this, with a (probably apocryphal) story about how his friends tried to stuff the ballot box so they'd win the competition.

I remember seeing Robert Klein singing "BOOK OF LOVE" made famous by The Monotones... the way it was presented, it appeared like Robert Klein was actually a MEMBER of The Monotones... is this true?
Can ANYONE confirm (or deny) this info?
    Thanks!

Yup. He also played the vampire in the original Fright Night released in 1985. He also married Susan Tomalin in 1967, who is Susan Sarandon. She kept her married name after they divorced in 1979 as her stage name.
