- A review on the 2021 Sherco 300SE factory edition after 40 hours of use. I go over five things I like and five things I don't like on the bike so far. In short this bike is really, really good with a few minor things that I would like to see Sherco improve on.

Have about 10 hours on my 2021 se 300 factory and +1 on the poor plastics. Love every single thing about the bike except the plastics, they seem to stain easy, i ride dusty dry trails often and there is some discoloration on the white plastics from my pants rubbing. They are also expensive to replace, but if that's the worst thing about the bike I'll freaking take it.
Also, a little something I did was before I had even ridden the bike I took some griptape, cut it, and put it on the frame guards above the pegs, it keeps they from getting scratched up (like every other sherco I've seen) and helps just a little bit to keep my boot from sliding up. I would definitely recommend that as well as getting some clear gorilla tape and putting it under the frame guards/under the skid plate to ensure the paint doesn't wear off.
Best bike I've ever ridden, rode with some guys who have beta's, huskies, ktm's, and they all preferred this bike to the TPI. The sherco is so much smoother in the power band it's crazy.
It's a freaking dream. I love mine. Most fun bike i've ever owned. Glad I'm not the only one with poor fitting plastics. Also hit neutral at the crappiest times! Then it's sometimes hard to find it on steep downhills as well... weird.

Hands down the best 2 stroke i have ever owned for trail riding. You will not be sorry.

I just gave up my 21 Husky Te300 for the sherco se300. It is an amazing bike, I hope it holds up as well as my husky have.

My local shop has a 22 factory in stock that was a cancellation. Its a nice looking machine.. coming off a 19 gasgas . Very tempting
Good review. Two things I found out after riding my 2020 for about a year now.
Air Filter: I saw a video from Factory Sherco rep about how to do the filter.
If you rotate it 1/4 turn to the left it will come our pretty easy. (with the flat side toward the subframe) I was surprised how much easier that was on me and the filter lol.
On the plastic tank shroud. Hard to describe.
It took me a few times to figure out to put the bottom tabs of the shroud into the slots and get that good and tight seam then worry about the top by the tank.
Can get mine near perfect if I do the seam first and get the tabs aligned and gap tight and then put top of shroud on screws on tank.
I was doing it backward, the top first getting a screw in the tank and then could never get that gap to go away like you show in the video. Work on seam first.
Agree they plastics could be a bit more durable and standard $$$,
Most fun ride I have ever had or ridden for sure and I have had a few ridden MANY.
Nice to see honest feedback on the bad stuff. The counterbalance issue, I don't know how you can call it a win when it still vibrates a lot. Saying it has more power because they didn't add the amount of weight they should have? That logic isn't very good IMO. The casings look identical to the china two stroke, I can't get past that point myself.
Just ordered the 2022 se 300 Factory, can’t wait to see how it rides in the trails here in Hawaii.

Excellent review mate, Ill add a few points having put 30 hours on mine:
- Plastics imo hold up better than on my last 2 bikes (Betas) but I have noticed the tank shroud doesn't quite fit - exactly like yours.
- Bolts, havent been an issue for me. I don't use torx, they hold water and end up looking ordinary growing surface rust.
- Footpegs, took some getting used to but they reward a rider standing more on the ball of your foot.
- Dash/Speedo actually works and holds time, unlike both my previous Betas. Kinda odd as they are all Trailtech. Beta wiring maybe the issue?
- KYB = awesome. totally agree with you.
- Chain guide.. I will replace mine, thanks for the tip.
- Break pedal, same. previous bikes i had the large tip. not needed on the Sherco
If I think of anything else Ill add it.
@Rider SC thanks for sharing. Yes the Beta plastics seem to be the most prone to breaking/cracking. Beta fixed the speedo issue for 2021, it was the mount causing the cable to not stay connected or so I'm told.

The subframe looks nice new but like this bike
in the video, it is really thrashed, bare alum on
kaw honda yamaha can get terrible looking too,
but not usually after 40 hrs plus you can polish
them out, having to stick no slip strips on it is
not the best solution, then the finished subframe is
hidden lol, I would only use the 'strips' if I wanted the
grip. I wouldn't go with Torx either, allen/hex bolts work
well.

Awesome review!!! All good points on the pluses and minuses. I did the opposite of yourself I started with a 2018 shreco 300 and now I'm on a 2021 husky te300i. I liked the sherco but man I really love this 300 husky!!!! But in saying that I would never rule out a new model sherco down the road. I still have yet to sample the KYB suspension
@jeff baer yes the KYB suspension is a big draw for people on the Sherco's.
Great video, I had a Beta and it used to hit neutral a LOT, played around with different oils and viscosities, tried 5 different types, ended up with Motul 10/60 100% synthetic, (as apposed to full synth, there is a difference !) and that fixed the problem. Now have a 2020 KTM 300, did the same test, ended up with the stock Moterex 15/50. I know it sounds like BS, but oils can make a big difference, imho :-)
I'm using the same brand oil as I did on my KTM's but I'll have to try some other brands to see if it helps.
PNW, some good valid points there, some not so much in my opinion.
Definitely 100% agree with the fun factor + !
1/ The plastic fitment issue has been raised with the factory in France and it is due to the fuel tank not seating in the frame properly.
Have a look at the frame paint under the tank and you note a rub mark where it's pressed hard on the bottom of the tank. Sherco even deleted the rear tank bolt because it was nearly impossible to install 😒
2/ The bolts....
I love that they aren't Torx, as a mechanic I don't like them personally.
I already carry sockets and spanners in my pack, needing to carry a Torx set as well is more weight.
3/ KYBs are the bomb, really great on mine at 53hrs, will have them serviced soon.
4/ On the plastics being brittle, none of the 3 bikes I've owned have cracked anything plastic including the 21 model.
They're made by Polisport for Sherco the same as other brands 🤷♂️
5/ The air filter is my biggest annoyance, it's a terrible design - agreed.
It would be impossible to change quickly in a race without dumping dirt down the intake and you're never sure it is seated without removing a side panel.
6/ One you missed is the crazy fuel tap location. I just leave mine on 24/7 and deal with the fumes in the garage rather than stuff my hand in there 🙂
Maybe I've just had bad luck with the plastics? I've done more damage in 40 hours than I did on 3 KTM's combined 895 hours.

Perhaps it's because it's colder where you ride too. Typically at least 15C where we ride and often up to 30C.
Sherco did make the plastics more flexible in 2017 after being board-stiff prior to that.
I have a white 'plastic bruuse' where you pointed to your front mudguard, mine hit a tree and flexed back.
At least they're cheap to buy at $50 🙂👌

I couldn't agree anymore with your plus five and minus five. I do wish Sherco would go through the effort to make the gas tank / plastics fit properly. In addition it would be nice if they would allow some aftermarket companies to make replacement plastics that aren't so brittle
I have over 90 hrs on my 2019 factory 300, I have never had any issues with the plastics, in fact the total opposite. No big issues.
Break the spark plug loose then turn over the motor to blow out loose debris.

I'm pretty sure it's the tanks. They just have too much variation between them. All it would take is better tolerance for mounting the plastics, a little more wiggle room.
@@MDHaughton I agree 100% that it's the tanks. In comparing three identical bikes side by side the tanks all fit different. It may even be noticed that there's a hole in the tank that's supposed to line up with a bolt hole in the frame and they do not line up. This issue can even affect the way the seat fits

Good review Greg,thanks for putting it together. How are you finding the fuel consumption now that you have the Smart Carb? My only complaint with my 2021 is the amount of fuel I go through and the chance of running out.
I'm happy with the fuel economy. I hit reserve at 76km on one ride so I'm sure I could get over 100km on a full tank.
Not had any issues with accidentally putting the bike in neutral at all on my 2021 300 SE Factory. In fact, I have to be very intentional to get it into neutral. Plastic fitment is good on mine as well (not that it makes any difference in how it performs).
I agree that the airbox is tight. Should be able to remove and install the filter without it dragging the sides of the subframe, but there just isn't room on this bike. Also agree that vibration is NOT a factor at all. Never notice it. Love the map switch and how easy it is to use and the difference it makes in power characteristic and delivery.
Regarding the air filter: Saw a video from Factory Sherco where he showed that you had to twist the air filter a quarter of the way in one direction and it came out pretty easily. Worth a try :) (I dont own a Sherco myself but thinking about it so I am looking at everything Sherco...)

ktm chain guard fits perfectly on sherco
I had the neutral problem with my ktm 300, just adjusted the gear lever and never had another issue.
Was the lever too high or too low??? And what was ur adjustment? Having the same problem on my beta

You forgot the hugest positive of the Sherco....it has a carb!!! Think I'm going to make the witch from KTM after 15 years on the Austrian bikes...

Not street legal where I live. It can be some places if you add the required parts.
Lol. I thought my subframe was bent, causing that gap in the plastics on the right side. I wonder how Sherco thought “ no big deal the plastics don’t fit “. That’s kinda of sloppy engineering. Oh well I’m still super happy with my bike.

I busted my rear chain guide in the first week as well. I did manage to high side after swapping on through some whoops. I only bent the bars. :)
Dude. Same....I had a standard mousse in my ktm and compared to tubliss up front the standard mousse felt absolutely awful. To the point I couldn’t trust my front end. Put the tubliss back on....totally different bike. I can see your point there for sure. Totally different feel. The slow stuff was fine. Didn’t notice the mousse. Faster stuff my front end would dance and do everything but track straight lol.
Interesting. I'm feeling the same thing and trying mousses for the first time m59 up front with nitro standard 235. Boy was it a PIA to mount like the mousse was too big. Hate the feeling compared to tubliss. In the rear I've got a m14 michelin in a d803 trials tire and that feels great. Love not having check pressures or carry tire tools but hate the feeling in the front.
@@PrimalEnduro it’s not you bro. Just know that. It’s the mousse. I thought it was me. I was like wtf am I doing wrong? Had my suspension dialed in. I was to the point to where I was about to go have a revalve done. Took the mousse out, tubliss back up front and it was night and day different. Maybe I didn’t let it break in enough Idk, I like the air feel better I gueS
@PrimalEnduro while the 21-235 is correct for the M59 according to the fitment guide imo it's too big for that tire. The soft mousse I used was a size smaller 21-220 and install was a breeze. I contacted Nuetech about this and they said the 21-220 will work fine but not last as long. I may have to try the Michelin or SRT mousse to compare the feel vs Nitro's.
@@PNWEnduro I was about to say in the m59 the 220 is a better fit I’ve heard. Idk I didn’t stay in the mousse game long enough to find out lol I hated it

Fair enough review. I will say that my shifting in positive, and I don't believe I've ever missed a shift. It's almost notchy, but decent. Polisport plastics...clearly they don't care or they would have fixed their formula years ago. Let's face it, Acerbis is the king of plastics and anything else is down hill. Fitment, it's plain sloppy. I don't have the left side radiator fitment issue you do either, but the subframe/gas tank plastic junction is a mess and my subframe panel bolts barely line up with their holes. In this case though I don't really care, it's a dirt bike not a Lexus. The one issue I will take with your review is the front mousses. I've heard more amateur riders poo poo mousses as if they just couldnt control the bike, while failing to acknowledge that there isn't an off road race won without the rider being on mousses. So the same guys that will smoke by us like we are coasting somehow can make it work, but joe blow (in general, not aimed at you) thinks they are holding him back. different tires require different suspension set ups and mousses are no different. I know I will never carry tubes, irons, plugs, patches and pumps again!!!
I'm sure happy with my 2021 Beta 300 Racer. My other choice would be the Sherco though.
What’s up pnw. I just picked my 21 se 300 up. Sounds like the bike is holding up pretty well. Have you had any issues with water in the ecu harness and have you had issues with the fan? I’ve read several people have had issues with water getting into the fuse housing for the fan?
I’ve only done one ride on this bike. My first Impression is that the bike feels much more balanced than my 21 husky te 300. The Kubrick is badass especially compared to the wp that the ktm/husky come with. The bike definitely put persons the husky in the slow technical, I feel I need to do some tweaks for the faster paced single track.

Do you have a scale to weigh it? Just wondering what it actually weighs ready to ride. And the price always seemed high to me compared to ktm that has a pretty expensive efi system compared to carbs. Good video.
I'd like to get a scale eventually but they are quite expensive. Where I live the factory edition costs about the same as the base level KTM. Sure no efi system but you get full KYB suspension, fan, skid plate and gnarly pipe stock on the Sherco.
I understand the neutral issue same on mine and plastics don't seem to line up well

I had the original Lectron, performance wise it's not on the same level at the Smartcarb. I am very interested in the new Billetron and may try one myself.
I have 105 hours on same Sherco but 2020 model, never hit the false neutral. Other then that I agree on most counts. Plastics, stickers horrible, starter sucks as well.
I wanted to ask you about your switch from TuBliss and Mousse inserts back to Tubes as I actually did the same thing around 6 months ago and I have found riding Tubes (regular or HD's) to be far better than the others. I don't know if my riding skills just go that much better or what it is but I used to swear by TuBliss and Mousses but now i'm far happier on Tubes. What are your thoughts?
I have never run tubliss. I did switch to a tube in the front because the mousse foam can’t react to impacts like air can. I still run a soft mousse on the rear wheel because the chances of a flat are greater. I may try tube saddles and a tube in the rear next.
get your self a spark plug boot like the ktms have should stop debris from building up in there

mitch carvolth is making custom stubby break levers for the rear brake. i dont know why ktm makes them so freckin long . who rides on there heals? i did until i modded mine
Off topic but have you ridden a Beta 200? I have a Beta 300. I guy I know swears it’s the best combination of 125 type chassis and still low end grunt with the great motor. I’m in the southwest totally opposite terrain than your area
Yes, I did a few reviews on the 200rr late 2019 and early 2020. Beta Canada was kind enough to bring me out to one of their demos back east and also loaned me both the 200rr and 300rr as well. The 200 was a really fun bike for sure.

I have the same bike and would agree with most of your points, However the petcock is a joke! I also think they could add some to the left side of the tank (like KTM) and move the petcock to that location. I really love the bike, might consider a 51 tooth for the rear. And yes, I also find neutral alot....... weird.... cheers
Yes good point on the petcock, it's a little awkward to reach.
Just add a on/off valve at the end of the fuel hose near the carb. Problem solved
How did you find the carb tuning of the bike standard? Is there a reason you changed to the smart carb?
The stock carb is easy to tune. I run the SC2 because I ride a lot of different elevations and with the SC2 I don't need to change anything, the bike runs the same at all elevations. The added fuel economy is also a plus for some of the long backcountry rides I do.

Any troubles sourcing parts? Took me 4 weeks to get a new rear fender for my '14 SEF-R.
Can't get a spark arrestor at the moment but other than that my Sherco dealer has more parts available than any of the local KTM/Husky dealers.

I heard that if you drop the forks 1-2mm the bike becomes more stable.

@@PP-wz7mp Dropping the forks in the clamps will effectively increase your rake angle, increasing high speed, straight line stability. People commonly raise the fork tubes in the clamps to improve low speed, tight conditions handling.
I have the same sort of setup on my yz250x suspension. soft front end, stiffer rear. stability isnt an issue for me to be honest
How many clicks out do you run? I run my yz250 at 14 out
@@endurotruckererniedesjardins funny enough i actually run it all the way out on the front. ive been riding some really big rocks one after another at like 5mph max lately so it helps. old oil in the forks dont help either. shock is much slower rebound and comp.

Is the transmission NOTCHY ? -- How does the shifting compared to a KTM like a 250/300 TPI ???
I would say a bit notchy. Not quite as smooth shifting as the KTM brands but it's not something that bothers me.
@@PNWEnduro Thanks - I think of the YZ125/250 I recall hitting false neutrals. Just the inherit design (not going to break or anything) just the way it is.
How is the top end power? Is it a little flat compared to the ktm?
Not really. A TPI bike has strong power up top for sure but I don't find this lacking at all. Keep in mind they have an FMF Gnarly pipe which is more for bottom end power.

No problems with the clutch so far.
new models have new clutch plates. old models with adler plates were very bad
have you ever shifted into gear and had the feeling of being stuck between gears? i shifted from 2nd to 3rd on my bike and for a second it was stuck between gears and free reved like being in neutral...then it hooked up into 3rd and went...whats that all about you think.?
Can't say I've experienced that so far.
If it only happened once it's just that you didn't fully shift properly that's all especially if your not shifting with the clutch under high revs it happens

What do you think of the Beta XT 300 ?
Honestly not my favorite. Lots of torque and great in the slow stuff but the suspension is a bit lacking imo. I have only tried the 2018/2019 XT 300's, have not been on the newer counterbalanced models yet.

Does this Sherco feel physically smaller than the KTMs and Huskys you've ridden?
@PaiN's Rides yes they do feel a little more compact even though the actual specs are pretty close physically.

Yes it is. Easy to find info online showing the new motor with counterbalance. It's also easy to tell the difference when you compare it to an older model.
@@PNWEnduro Can you do the water cup test again. I rode 2021 and comparing to KTM i don't think u can call it counterbalanced.
I did the water cup test in a pervious review comparing the Sherco to KTM. Like I said in this video as well it's not as smooth as a KTM but I don't notice it on the trail so it's not an issue for me.
